He added something special to the Stones and it took their music to a higher level. 'He can't sing'. He wasn't in the Stones to sing. 'He can't write'. Well he could, and didn't get proper acknowledgement for his contributions. It's well known. He had a 'drug problem' Yeah, like Keith didn't. 'A huge ego' Unlike the other Mick? Most fans would agree with him.Their best consistent stuff was '69-;74. That was the period he was with them. Coincidence? Maybe... but he is a truly wonderful player.

Taylor was bloody right to leave at the top. His departure was as graceful as his playing.

I did see MT at a club in Milwaukee in I believe 1990 Dec. Interesting how he speaks about Buddy Guy and other Chicago influences, as there was a VERY cold night in I think about 1992 -93 when my boyfriend made me go to a bar in Madison, WI, very small and sleep on the floor in some rather hell hole house with his cousin, we partied (smoked) a lot and then walked in the freezing cold, about negative 20 F, to a pretty small bar and watched Buddy Guy play. Not that many people there at all. Very normal to go to Chicago every weekend for music. Normal to just go out for a beer and hear blues bands playing, then walk on to the next one. Buddy Guy's legends bar, etc. BB King was in the area a lot. And really, I took all of this for granted, as it was just so typical at the time. I wish I did not take it for granted now.

3:45-4:46 Note the scenes from CS Blues, interesting how they scalped them and inserted them into this film. Very insightful comments about the "love/hate relationship" he has with the Stones.

Mick Taylor is the Guitar god. As Clapton was god before, Mick became god after he played with the Blues breakers when he was just 17 (I am 17) and hasn't shown us doubt ever since.

MT definitely made his mark, go to any Stones live video and the comments will have his name all through out, Plus he is a gentle soul, they cut him off from Royalties in 1982 and he refused to sue them, his reasoning was they may ask me to jam again, you have to admire his code and he is truly in it for the love of the music and not the money.

What a legend! Also played on Nikki Suddens album, Treasure Island.

Oh and I think MT is right up there and frankly --- I think Keith was threatened by his talent. Just my opinion.

Mick Taylor is an amaizingly gifted guitarist, and the "Mick Taylor era" was a geat period for the Stones, however just as Mick Taylor needed to evolve, so did the Stones. While Ron Wood may not be technically as "polished" as Mick Taylor, the Stones were never really about that.

I don’t think you have to explain yourself Mr. Taylor as to why you didn’t prance on stage. As you said when you have Mick Jagger and Keith a close second there’s no reason for you to do anymore than what you came there to do and that’s play some of the best guitar we have ever heard. If you had been a showman believe me with your looks , you would have been fired after the first show. I have much respect for you because it would take one hell of a man to walk away from all that fame.

I see he's playing on the "On Fire" that just ended prematurely. He decided to hang out in Perth for a few more days after the rest of them left.

I absolutely agree with most of this...except, if you look at Some Girls as a Time Capsule, (Jimmy Carter's "Malaise speech" it doesn't Suck, there are even a few greats on Voodoo lounge in my opinion.

Well, the reality is that by the time Mick Taylor left the Stones {like many before him and during that time} he had a pretty strong heroin habit. He was a junkie. Like a lot of junkie's he thought if he left wherever he was {with the Stones} maybe he could kick it {which I don't believe he did at least at that time.} Another major reason {and I don't blame him} was that he'd been told by Jagger he'd get a writing credit on a number of songs {Time Waits for No One-Moonlight Mile-Winter to name a few} but he did not get those writing credits which were nixed by Keith for some reason but by the time MT left the Stones he was a heroin addict and pretty fed up with the politics of the band. Of course Mick Taylor was not the only one who ended up with a drug habit hanging around the Stones {namely Keith.} Jimmy Miller the producer ended up with a severe addiction and eventually died. Andy Johns who worked on Exile. Bobby Keys the sax player was a long time drug addict and Keith's running mate. Nicky Hopkins had a chronic illness so he was fragile. He had severe Colitis or something like that. Bet you didn't know Charlie Watts had a heroin dependence for a couple years, {yes, shocked me too.} I think MT had done his best work prior to leaving the Stones. I don't think he would have done better work with them had he stayed. That bird had flown to a degree. I had a friend who saw the Stones 15-20 times. He told me when he saw them in 1972-73 Mick Taylor was unbelievable. He was this guy who didn't move a lot on stage and just played amazing guitar. He told me those last couple shows he saw Mick Taylor was the star and he was magic playing live.

I'm glad he left the stones, he knows it would have ruined him and you would not have had what he knocking out on his own now !!!
@petermills20616 жыл бұрын
The Cad. But unfortunately he DOES'NT knock anything out on his own! Since he left 44 yrs ago, 2 solo albums! some session work with Bob Dylan decades ago, and sporadic live & small tours. He really has'nt made the most of his talent/career.

Obviously "Greatest" and "Great" are matters of taste, as to a certain extent what defines a "blues"tune, but technically, Only 4 /18 songs On "Exile" are Blues Progressions: Rip This Joint, Shake Your Hips, Ventilator Blues, and Stop Breaking Down.

Stones haven't written or recorded 1 great song since Mick Taylor left - coincidence or he got out at the right time. the Stones are simply a Rolling Stones cover band and have been since the mid-late 70s, that's a long time to be playin somebody else's tunes!
@petermills20616 жыл бұрын
socrates 1818 . I obviously see your comment is 5 years old now & you won't see mine! But saying ' not one great song since Mick Taylor left' is so comical & absurd that I had to say something!! and no I'm NOT going to write a list ! haha! But really....... come on!
@jonesy21114 жыл бұрын
They did a few good things here and there but I agree they are not even close to the band they were in terms of songwriting, musicianship or artistry etc. Even on Tattoo You several songs are actually from the MT era... and I think that was that last great album they have done. I think Bigger Bang was awful

AMATEUR GUITARISTS PLEASE READ AND REPLY! ........................................... Do guys think maybe somewhere deep inside we RESENT Ron Wood for his unlikely circumstances (given his mediocrity)? Most of us personally know a dozen guitarists who outplay RW. Everything we read describes him (RW) as a great guy! Keith's book affirms that MT left on his own accord, but jeez did they replace a virtuoso (MT) with a swell guy (RW) who kind of bites, but looks great as a Rolling Stone?
@socrates181812 жыл бұрын
Negative, only 1 great tune - Tumblin Dice, the rest just blues tunes

This guy is a great guitar player but he has been rumoured to have had not only a develepling drug problem and had a huge ego problem which is obvious in this embarrasing interview. He can't sing and he can't write but he can play. To say that HE was the reason Those Stones albums were great is a fucking insult to the songwriters who had done fine up until Let it bleed without him and 2 fantastic albums with him and then it started to go downhill WITH him in the band Sour grapes.

Don't talk nonsense; MT has the opposite of a ''huge ego problem''.
