Awesome video Sean, I will definitely be picking up some of those strips to do my MPC and Williams passenger cars. Thank you for making this video!😊

Great video, you made it look easy enough that I will try this on my older cars. Thanks for the tutorial.

What value resistor did you use for the led strips, both the 3 led strip and the 9 led strips?

Cool, I'm building a B9 too.

I will definitely be adding these to my Pere Marquette 7 car set. I just wonder if I can find a flashing red LED for the rear of the observation car and solder that in. After you demonstrated how you wired in that extra LED for your observation car, I'm sure it's possible.

Hey Sean, excellent video. Something told me when you ran these the first time that you’d be upgrading them. I have to admit it looks 100% better and I really like the idea of leaving the old connections in the cars. I’m prepping to do an interior in some box cars of the Hobo lifestyle if you will and I’d like to do some lighting to help them be seen but I’m thinking something like a very dim flickering bulb. Any ideas to connect them to power would be appreciated. Have a good one and if you go to Nicholas Smith any time soon Tell Joes the guy from OR says Hi!! Tim

Sean thanks for the idea I've ridden on Amtrak and seen them go by at night. Is there a way to make some of the lighting look like the people aren't there that they turned off the lights to go to sleep or they went to another car possibly to the dining car to eat and socialize with other guests? I would think you could black out certain windows to get that look by cutting out a section of the silhouette strip and replacing it with a opaque black piece, but then it would be black in daylight too, so not sure how good that would look.

@@seanstraindepot Sean Thank you for the response that might work. Let me ask you this can I make a small Box to fit over the window, but just leave a small gap somewhere up against the wall of the window so a tiny bit of light can still come through but giving the illusion that a night light is on instead and during the daytime you can't see the light because it's so dim. Can the silhouette of the people at the window be removed so it would look like the person drew the shades or no one is occupying that seat? Thank you for all your Advice, How-to, Tips & DIY on your Videos. Keep up the great work you do.

@@allanmartinez1190 Maybe just shades, that way they would look good day or night

The LED strips from Golden Gate Depot are nice but too pricey.

Capacitors (along with a resistor) act exactly like a flywheel, which tries to keep voltage constant. Sort of 'electrical inertia.'

Hey Sean,i have older MTH cars that have these plug in lights with the 2 wires on the end . Are those typically LED's. They have a white plastic base, somtimes black
@seanstraindepot2 жыл бұрын
Hard to say I would have to see it. Some of them still had incandescent bulbs, mounted on strips, but they weren't LED. So, they look similar to LED strips.

@@seanstraindepot i'll take it to tran shop so they can look at them
