On the Wrist, from off the Cuff: Ginault - Ocean-Rover, Review Pt.3

On this episode we follow up for our third installment of the multi-part review of Ginault's Ocean Rover. In this segment we'll be comparing and contrasting between original offerings from Swiss Made players Longines and Christopher Ward, in the HydroConquest 41mm and 38mm C60 Trident Pro Vintage 600. Both of these options offer a high level of finishing for the price and have more original designs that although have personalities of their own, also still very much are based on the same formula that's made the Rolex Submariner such an iconic watch. See how the impeccable fit and finish on the Ocean-Rover compare. You'll also notice a few other guest watches make an appearance, all of witch sharing some basic feature or aspect with the Ginault for comparison. Mark, is the bezel on the Ginault made from ceramic or aluminum? If ceramic, what type did they use? Is the dome crystal sapphire? Since the movement is chronometer certified, what is the amount of seconds, either + or - per day?

The PM80 models look interesting, I'm not a huge fan of the movement though, so I would consider them a step down stream from the 2824 model.

I'd love to get a C Ward if you could still get the old logo at the 12 o clock. The new logo at the 9 o clock was a poor design decision and ruins the watch for me. They should just bring back the old CW logo or simply put a W at the 12 position

I would definitely consider the Ocean Rover if not for: 1) All the marketing material I've seen from Ginault comes off as trying too hard and not very honest. 2) The text on the dial is just ridiculous. "Kinetic Continuous"? "Submersible Maritime Precision Chronometer"? It sounds like it was originally poorly written in another language and then even more poorly translated to English.

I know that C3 performs better than just about everything else when it comes to night time luminescence but the way it tends to look during the day just isn’t worth it in my opinion. On something like the shark diver, it looks alright I suppose but on something like the Ocean Rover or any of my gilt dial watches, it looks horrible. I’m so glad Ginault didn’t go with C3. I think it would have ruined it for me. I care way more about what my watch looks like during the day than I care about how it looks in the dark so I’m willing to get slightly less than stellar lume performance in exchange for a clean white/silver/cream color on the indices.

@@gutsynin6156 it has a greenish tint to it in direct light, which really doesn’t look good. I’ve sold a few watches that I really liked just because the luminous paint ruined the look of the watch in my opinion.

There has been nonsensical talk about the Ginault, about the movement being an ETA clone «because they wanted to manufacture their own movement and they wanted it to be MADE DOMESTICALLY in the UNITED STATES. That was important to the company. That was important to the watchmaker that is behind this design. They wanted an as most (‘much’) as possible BUILT IN THE USA watch.» (JustBlueFish, 28:09-48 into one of the videos). This is CON-ARTIST-LINGO. The movement is NOT AT ALL «made domestically» if THE WATCH is what they try to call «BUILT in America», because it does not say that the MOVEMENT is «built in America», all it implies is that the WATCH is. So, the WATCH is ASSEMBLED domestically, meaning THE WATCH CASE, CHRYSTAL, MOVEMENT, DIAL, HANDS AND CROWN ARE COMBINED in USA; meaning the MOVEMENT, the ETA clone, is MADE IN CHINA AND ASSEMBLED IN CHINA, then PUT INTO THE CASE «within America». NOTHING here is true and forthcoming information.d

There are lots of discussion on the forum on how this ginault company lied about everything about their watch (anything from being US made, in house movement and the materials they used for the lume and etc). They started a Q&A thread on the forum but when members started asking questions about the claims they were never upfront about it. What a shame. There are lots of other homage makers out there that are honest. Please steer away from this brand

Tag and Bremont have both been caught with their pants down when it comes to so called in-house movements, Ginault has been pretty upfront that about the movement being a 2824 clone, as far as what comes from where, none of that has been substantiated, it's just a bunch of people regurgitating a juicy theory.
