Neal's guitar tone was always epic in my opinion. He was a huge influence on me when I was in my teens and twenties. I feel like his sound is a little over-processed these days, but he is a gear head and he is always evolving his sound. And I still love his tone from the 1970s albums. Nobody soars like Neal. I love the HSAS album and Bad English. Such a cool and expressive player.

EXACTLY! Why does Neal always seem to get overlooked? A true modern legend. His entire career is crazy great tone and soaring melodic riffs.

Neal!! One of my biggest early influences. I just saw him live and this guy's chops are great as ever!! This guy can shred, or play the most beautiful melodic passages, all in the same solo!!!

Awesome interview. Wish there were more. Neal is one of the all time greats and seems like such a cool guy. The fact that he actually runs his own social media amd takes the time to interact with his followers is just fantastic. I remember when I was growing up…all these guys were just mythical creatures you’d read about. To interact with our musical heroes now is such a treat.

Neal has a serious catalog of hits! Talk about leaving behind a legacy. I never realized how much Neal sounds like Christopher Walken.

Journey are superb, of course, but the two Bad English albums are also sometimes overlooked it seems- everything came together on the first album, with John Waite's vocals, Neil Schon's highly distinctive guitar, and Deen Castronovo's powerful drumming. Every track is strong- it is a completely solid set. Second album Backlash has a lot of moments although it is not quite as coherent, not surprisingly perhaps, given the way the band fractured. Straight To Your Heart is one of the best straight up rock songs of the era. Such a shame they did not continue and that grunge killed off a whole load of great music that suddenly became unfashionable.

Please stop interrupting the guest with your own opinion. We came to hear him. Appropriate questions are great. Interruptions are not.

Absolutely think NS is brilliant guitarist/musician but the amount of delay he’s played with later in career is for guys with lesser chops. He’s got chops to spare. I get the depth and scale he’s trying to create but you just can’t hear ..Neal beneath the cloud of electronically created notes.
