Yeah, it seems I falsely assumed that as Fido Dido wasn't the 7up mascot over there that they didn't know of him, but he was still in cartoons and on clothing , etc. Definitely similarities to BC Racers. Thanks, Larry!

While we never saw Fido Dido in Sprite Commercials, he was pretty familiar in the the United States. The character appeared on T-shirts, had a comic strip in YM Magazine, and was in some commercial bumpers for CBS's Saturday Morning cartoon block.

Thanks to Sarah Avory for the following regarding MD Thunderhawk : Megadrive version of Thunderhawk looked the same as the Amiga version, and ran just as fast. In fact, it took me just 1 day to port a working version of the 3D engine from Amiga to Megadrive. Would've like to have finished the project, but then Mega-CD came along and so the project was shelved.

I'm on the case once more! 1: Frog Dude was cancelled because Andy Swan's agent named John Cook who was the brother of 1 of the Twilight team members, told the team that not only did the game look uninspired but that it was a ripoff of Super Mario World. Twilight then lost interest in the title, which caused 2 team members to leave & kickstart their own company. Another team member named Mark Mason died around this time as well. 3: Swamp Thing was cancelled simply because of Warner Brothers stripping the developers & publishers of the license due to the commercial failure of the NES & GB ports along with the show being cancelled. This forced both the developers & publishers out of business. 4: Smartvark was cancelled due to the late culling of the Genesis. 5: Elite was cancelled for the SNES 1st because the developers couldn't find a publisher. The GB & SMD ports were worked on later but never completed for the same reason which caused financial problems. 6: House of Fun was cancelled because Madness convinced their record label to strip the license from Gremlin because they didn't like how the Genesis' sound chip was handling the music & they also didn't like the idea of covers being used instead of the originals. The reason why covers were being used was at Sega's request rather than Gremlins! 7: Rescue was cancelled by Psygnosis because Sony just bought them out & ordered them to make games exclusive for their systems. It didn't help that this was just after Sony was blown off by both Sega & Nintendo. But I feel like this game could have been reworked for the PS1! 10: Dyno Blaze was cancelled due to the lead artist dying of a severe illness which pushed back development for up to 2 years which Virgin was like "Forget it, Why bother finishing it with Saturn now here & by the time we're done, that will be discontinued & we would have to rework it for Dreamcast!". 12: Hardcore was cancelled for the same reason as Rescue. It's unknown why Sony didn't want to convert it to PS1. 13: Lobo was cancelled for the same reason as X-Women. 15: Fido Dido was cancelled due to Kaneko's closure of their NA branch, just like Socks the Cat. 16: Shadow of the Beast 3 was cancelled for the same reason as Rescue & Hardcore. 17: Dino Racer was cancelled due to developing issues arising which caused Codemasters to cancel it for that felt that since it wouldn't have met Sega's standards, it wasn't worth the investment.

Well, at least HARDCORE now gets a release on PS4 and Switch. Renamed to ULTRACORE, the game's development was finished by and is also distributed by "Strictly Limited Games" , available as pre-order the coming weekend, April 27th 2019 on their website.

The 3 games I want the most here are: - X-Women - Beyond Zero Tolerance - ResQ A lot of reasons for that. They seem technically impressive, with cool visual style, with some interesting gameplay aspects... (ResQ even got 3D sequences akin to Star Fox except without the need of a special chip). Next I'd say Shadow of the Beast III. Not sure if it's good but at least this would mean getting the full trilogy on Mega Drive since the 1st and 2nd games were already released on it (and even on Mega-CD for the 2nd one). That Fido Dido game would have also been much welcome. Well, at least Hardcore was eventually released but I'm sure you're already aware of that.

When you said that you grew up with an Amiga and a Mega Drive, that reminded me of something. Back then, you could use the Mega Drive's Controller on an Amiga(and on a C64 for that matter). However the Amiga would take 2 out of the 4 Buttons the Mega Drive Controller had. So you could play allot Amiga Games(Like R-Type Katakis and Turrican) using two buttons ... which was kinda cool back then.

Yes, that was awesome! And it saved me a ton of money. I had the Quickshot joysticks (specifically the Maverick and Python), so I could use them on my Amiga and my Mega Drive. Still have them!

Yeah! I never had an Amiga, back then a new friend of mine said, i should get a C64 because he has a *ton* of games to copy ... so when i went with my Dad i could have gotten an Amiga(which was the same Price back then as a C64) but i choose wrong. Turned out that _Friend_ did not have allot Games ... just a couple. Funnily _I_ then gathered *allot* Games for the C64 ... and i mean really a crazy amount. The good old times! When i was young, you could still buy Atari 2600 for cheaps as the stores tried to get rid of all the leftovers ... which was fun, i remember to have had the NES as well but ... the 16 Bit Times where the best. Snes and Mega Drive(Genesis) had a Style of Games the NES just didn't have. The Computers had the same Style Games, especially the Amiga. Back in the C64 times i would open up Controllers ... and solder cables on to them. I did change a Mega Drive Control Pad, so the _A_ Button would act like a _Jump_ Button, when in reality all i did was add the _Up_ Command and make it trigger when you push _A_. I also wired the _C_ Button, i remember that back then ... the Amiga had Space set to _C_ on the Mega Drive Controller ... but the C64 _also_ had Space on an Wire ... but _Space_ was actually set to the Second Controller's Button ... so i wired that in lol. Crazy, but super fun times. I actually keep thinking, to buy me a set of the Hardware for Arcade Sticks, and then build my own ... that would be as fun as Rewiring Controllers back then.

Ah, that's great hearing about your experiences back in the 16-bit days. They truly were the golden years for gaming. That's a shame you didn't go for the Amiga, as that's my all-time favourite gaming system, and I still play it a lot. But it sounds like it worked out well for you anyway. I have a few friends who build their own arcade sticks and it's a great skill to have. I'm useless with stuff like that, so usually get one of them to do it for me. One guy gutted an original XBOX controller and put it inside a Dreamcast arcade stick, and modified it with Seimitsu parts. It's impossible to find a decent stick for the original XBOX, so now I have a good Dreamcast one to use.

Yeah, in fact that friend had like 10 games or so, i found allot people that would give me Games in School back then, and i don't know how many i had, a whole box of Floppy Disks! I did similar stuff back then with Arcade Sticks. A friend had a Old Arcade Stick that would not work anymore, and he gave it to me. I disassembled a Controller ... and all you really had to do with those back then, was _scratch off_ some of that cover where the Rubber Buttons(they are inside, not the outside plastic buttons you press) close contact on the Controllers circuit board ... then you can solder on a Cable there. Buttons really are just like a Switch ... one that only has contact when pressed down(otherwise known as _Deadman's Switch_). All you gotta do is attach 2 cables and then use the Arcade Stick Button mechanic to do the switching. The only thing really necessary for Newer Consoles and PC now is the Circuit Board inside of those Controllers. The C64 and Amiga did not encode the Controller Signal at all ... so you just need to figure out what each cable does that sits in the plug. But NES, Snes, Playstation, Dreamcast ... those all _Encode_ the Signals they get from the Controller ... so you need the chip. And i just _used_ the chip in a Controller ... to get it into a Arcade Stick. Nowadays you can buy Arcade Stick _Sets_ on Amazon ... they basically a collection of Buttons, Switches, a Joystick and a small Circuit Board so the PC _think_ it is a xinput(so Xbox) Controller. You can also buy Buttons and all that stuff Separately, so you can mix and match Colors and have Buttons with Symbols on them, like the Arcade ones for Player 1 and Player 2. Also on Etsy you can buy premade _Cases_ for Arcade Controllers ... there you surely find someone who drills all the Holes where you want them too! So all you need to do is put the buttons in(easy) and connect all the cables(also easy, no soldering required with those sets). You could give that a try, and if you need help ... you said you got friends that do that.

The problem with a lot of those arcade kits is they're terrible quality. Better off buying Seimitsu or Sanwa parts individually like I did. Still, it's just not something I think I'd enjoy doing, but happy to pay someone who does.

Fido Dido was known in the US, I remember they had t-shirts etc advertising him all over the place. He was 7-UP's first mascot before yes being replaced by Cool Spot, in which Cool Spot became more popular and had multiple video games.

Awesome video Pete! It sucks that Beyond Zero Tollerance was cancelled. I was a huge fan of the original Zero Tollerance, since I was big into FPS games, and that was the first type of game I could play on a console.

Ooh yes. I played that game on the C64 and I didn't have a clue what to do. But I was just so blown away by the fact I could walk around, get in in plane and fly. It was great. I saw a walk through only a year ago or so. I don't think I could have finished that game back then.

Another cracking video Pete! I would say that it's a shame some of these didn't make it to the console but in a lot of ways it looks like we dodged a bullet, there are a few platformers featuring anthropomorphised animals that were probably aiming to tap into Sonics success, maybe more Bubsy than Rocket Knight Adventures. That might be doing them a disservice though, 'Frog Dude' looks like it might've had some nice ideas (if not enemies), Smaartvark looks a bit too tenuous and hastily cobbled together though. It's a shame the Akira game didn't see any daylight, although the biking sections looked like Road Rash in all but name, not that that's a bad thing, I think I would've been perfectly happy with a re-skinned Road Rash II. It's a shame about Resq as well, that looked great!

Sony were to publish Elite, pulled out of the publishing deal, work continued on the game and switched to a dual format release, with an enhanced 32X Version (more objects, Texture-Mapped visuals etc)

This would explain it's cancellation for 1994 was when 2 team members left the company to form their own and 1995 was when Twilight broke up entirely either due to creator conflicts, lack of interest or financial turmoil. 7:15 Beyond Zero Tolerance could have been cancelled due to the year 1995. 1995 was the year the Saturn and PS1 were released & both SNES & Mega Drive cartridges were falling into the clearance bins especially due to the hate the 32X managed to garner. Not to mention that Techno Pop could have cancelled the game out of fury for Sega for releasing the Saturn early & that's why we didn't see it on the Saturn either. 9:53 Lobo & Hardcore were cancelled due to the Saturn. 12:25 Fido Dido was cancelled when publisher Kaneko decided to cease operations in North American & possibly European markets in the summer of 1994 & this is the same reason Socks the Cat was cancelled for SNES & Genesis! 13:23 Shadow of the Beast 3 was cancelled on the Genesis because it was gonna be released in 1993 or 1994 & 93 was the year Sony bought out Psygnosis & thus Sony ordered the cancellation of all SNES & Genesis games due to a fallout with both Sega & Nintendo! The company then geared up for PS1 games & it's unsure why none were just moved to the PS1.

Utterly hate how Yuji Naka was such prick as to cancel a nice oroginal and interesting looking game as that Sonic prototype. As far as I know it stemmed from him not liking how Sega US did the cartoon and such, which is funny because they did it better than Japan. Having Sonic on Earth DOES NOT WORK and set it on the path that we know today, even the Adventure games haven't aged that well. Same thing happened with Eternal Champions on the Saturn, Sega Japan didn't want competition for Virtua Fighter (despite one being 2D and one being 3D, people would have bought both) so instead they canned it. I love classic Sega (MS-Saturn), the Megadrive is the greatest console of all time but christ they could be morons also.

The Akira games could have been really awesome and it's really a shame this never happened. However i'm glad "Sonic 16" never happened as i never really liked the terrible (non-canon) Sonic Cartoon shows from the early 90s as they really had absolutely nothing to do with the Games.

Does anybody know any KZbin videos I can find of Cecrock? It was a very, very, very, VERY, rare game. All I know is that it has unnerving, but simple digitized 3D graphics. The title screen has Cecrock saying "Hi, I'm Cecrock!" before the title screen started. The title screen was of a camera moving around the character while a collection of distorted beeps (supposedly the title music) played. I'm confused to why this rare game (which DID have footage of it on KZbin by the way) could just stop existing. Am I doing something wrong for it to not pop up, or did it really get wiped from the face of the planet?

I'm gutted these games were cancelled. They look amazing. The two main games i would kill to have would be sonic 16 and shadow of the beast 3. I owned for the amiga. Before i watched this programme i always thought why didn't they do this for the megadrive. Hope there is a homebrew game somewhere for the megadrive. I'd pay anything gor that.
