There are many 1/2 inch right angle drills that would work. The girls could raise Teal without breaking a sweat. Harken makes the attachment that fits on the chuck of the drill. Easy Peasy! Good luck

Good job. Teal, for someone who has just about every tool imaginable (for a boat), I'm surprised you are making Linh and Emma hand-crank you up the mast. Tsk, tsk. My wife can get me up the mast without breaking a sweat, but she has a little help. We have a Milwaukee Angle drill with an adaptor for the winch spline. 28v, rechargeable and works like a charm. Give your girls a break!

Nice work and a fantastic new addition, so cool to be able to see all that! I have to say that I was looking in the background at Compass and watched him playing with the tennis ball, thank god he’s feeling better! Brilliant job as usual Teal. Did I spot a crafty shortcut? missing a mounting bolt out of the ray dome. Probably not needed anyway. I think you and the girls are a brilliant team. Loved the cable idea to get over feeding in a new one. That heat shrink stuff is great, I use it a lot for repairs. You can even get it with a glue lining for really waterproof repairs.

Anchor cleaning ala Rick Moore. Rick leaves his muddy anchor under water about 3 feet while the boat is under way then pulls it up once clean. From what I saw it worked but being a known sailor I don't know if that is a risky move. :-) Channel Islands here we come!!!

For climbing the mast, I use ascender foot loops with an ascender attached to a secondary spinnaker halyard. The boson’s chair is attached to the main spinnaker halyard and run back to a winch. The process is simple… stand up in the foot loops, your partner takes up the slack on the main spinnaker halyard and repeat. It can be slow, but no one is exhausted.
@kkots3 жыл бұрын
This whole vid is a little too casual for me. Going up the mast with no safety line back up is inviting trouble. If either of those two people at the deck forget to cleat off the halyard line or it slips off the self tailer or stopper you're screwed. Not a good practice but to each their own.

Ha Ha , somewhere around 12:35 I noticed "pointing the blame finger". Hummmm! I gave it some consideration and I have to take sides with Teal. Here's why, Linh, you know that Teal needs direct supervision. You brought this up in the past, remember? See, wasn't this easy? Teal, you need to give Linh a big hug and kiss because she's such a great wife and life is better. God Bless

When I have to splice some wires together I try and stagger the splices so that the overall size/diameter of the splice stays the same as the existing cable. It makes it a little longer.

Glad to hear that you are planning on unstepping the mast and running new power and data cable for the radar at some point in the future. WiFi is nice and convenient, but I'd hate to have it as my primary means of connection to something important! Good to see Compass acting more like himself again
@bobrose79003 жыл бұрын
The mast cables normally run in a "sock" and the friction between them means you will need to pull all of them together. This is better done with the mast out. Your setup is perfectly fine though, good job and the adapter plate means no additional holes in the mast. A bit of silicone grease will keep any water out. Silicone spray and grease really do help the cables run without any side effects. I find that the radar is very little used, but when you need it it's invaluable. Disable when not required through your instruments though - it's surprising how much that bit of power draw can flatten batteries during the winter months.

@@tealgoben1781 That's true. With all the coast hugging you all have been doing are the engines still running cool. I wonder if you are getting more crud in your heat exchangers. Would you be putting a " Blaster Purging " down as a semi annual maintenance drill when running close to the shore?

I was wondering if you could get a winch handle that is longer so Linh can have more leverage when cranking Capt. Teal up the mast?
