We really want to stay out of the stores more than ever!!! So we did our normal once-a-month shopping and this time made it for five weeks. However, it was anything BUT normal! Trying to feed our large family healthy food for the next month when some of the shelves are empty and lots of items are limited makes it a challenge! Check out the video to see if we stayed in our normal budget of $1,300 for one month.
Thanks for watching!

Thanks for all your comments! It is so fascinating to me how we are all experience similar versions of the same thing around the world. NOTE: many have suggested we should have spoken with a store manager before shopping. I may not have been very clear in explaining it, but Solo spoke at length with a manager. There was not much they could do. Hope you are all able to get the things you need!

Hey, everyone should do that so they can get more than others! Great idea! NOT! The idea of limits isn't to deprive large families of what they need, it is to limit ALL families to a small amount so that EVERY family gets a bit of what they need! I really like Sarah and Solo, but I was very disappointed in them when watching this video. I do not care what they eat or how much they eat or buy, but they should absolutely abide by the same rules that everyone else is being asked to abide by! If having a large family means they must go to multiple stores in order to get what they need, they that is what they should do!

KarlaGreta yes, her kids need to be fed, but if stores use that as a reason to give then more, that means a family of four may well get nothing. I have four children myself and I get thing for my mom who is 86 and for my dad and his second wife (88 & 82), but still only get one of each item if that is how it is marked. Like I said, one of each, allows everyone to get some. I know it is easier to cook one large meal of the same foods, but they could do what three smaller families are doing and make three separate meals and stick to the one of each. Or they could shop more often than once a month while items are limited. We are all making due right now!

@@AliciaLee Me too. I have 10 people in my house and when I go to the store, I get threatening looks and even people have said things to me because it looks like I am over buying. The worst things are the minimums that they put on items and I am like that will not feed a family of ten, maybe a family of 4. Otherwise, I need to go to the store frequently. This is the worst.

@Caramel Cupcake You can't separate them. Plus large families hoard too! There is nothing to stop them from going store to store buying as much as they can, with a little sign saying they have eight kids! I have a hard time believing that people just smiled because there are so many complaining about large families sucking up too much of the food supply. Even on this channel where everyone knows Solo and Sarah have ten kids, people are complaining about the size of their family!

I grew up with 15 siblings. We usually shopped for two months at a time. We had our own garden. Grew up on a dairy so we had, milk and butter. We made our own bread. My Mom had three sets of twins. Oh yes my mother worked full time at a hospital. My parents were married 60 years. So, bless your family. I couldn’t imagine shopping during this pandemic. We had one frig and two freezers. It’s weird none of my siblings have more then three to four kids or none.

We are missionaries in South Africa. This week I caught myself so frustrated with having to go to various stores to find all my favorite stuff to stock up on. I was hot and stressed from the stores when we decided to buy our church people, who live in very rough townships a few staple bulk items (rice, flour and oil). When we delivered the items to them (before our countrywide lockdown) my perspective changed..... they clapped and raised their hands to praise God for these items that many had just ran out of. It was like they knew all would be ok now, simply because they had rice, flour, and oil. It has changed how our family has looked at all our inconveniences during this time. It was a huge lesson for me.

“The kids are going to enjoy this quarantine.” That is what families should strive to provide for their kids. Not fear and panic, but the family time. The laughter and a feeling of security. People who grew up during the depression often say, “We didn’t know we were poor.” That is my prayer for the children of today. That they will say, “I didn’t know how bad it was. But it's wrong to build that addition and then wait for next warning, THEN fill your addition, preventing many others from acquiring their basic needs. Now go take a nap on your bed made of toilet paper thinking yourself so proud to buy 1000 rolls which maybe forced several to maybe drive to several stores searching. Look back now in hindsight. Absolutly! I had bought several large boxes of dried milk in early Dec. 2019, because I always make up jars of hot chocolate and various teas and other things for Christmas presents and I had a good bit of dried milk left. Normally I would have just pitched the left over dried milk since I wouldn't use it again until next Dec., but for some reason I just put it in my pantry when I got home from our Christmas trip. Now we are cooking with/drinking it and being thankful for it!

I am single, no kids, and am an "essential worker" due to working at a nursing home. I figured out early that the people doing the most were people with monthly incomes. I got enough to carry me and went out "foraging" a couple weeks later. No problem. And others I know who are "essential", when we happen upon needed items, we get the limit so we can help each other out. I can understand not wanting to go out shopping again, but with 10 kids, good luck with that one. I admire the way the two of you work together, Solo and Sara. Good luck during this stressful time. And everyone, BE SAFE!

It was a true blessing! On another note: I work in healthcare (at a local hospital) I am astounded at the people who are just not getting it! They still want to speak in very close proximity, they are coming in to the ER in groups. (The whole family and extras are not allowed in.) Please listen to the guidelines & take this seriously! We just want you to stay safe, smart, & healthy!!! Believe me, your hospital/ER is NOT where you want to be right now!!!😬 Ps: thank you guys for always being a lovely positive place to enjoy, especially now! Stay well 😊🙏🏼❤️

If people are told to prepare to shelter in place, there should be no expectation for them to shop like they normally would. Children and adults alike are home all day. Meals that would ordinarily be eaten outside of the house, now must be eaten at home. Same for other things. More toilet paper is necessary for the same reason. Not to the extent people are hoarding it, but still, more than normal is needed. Being told to disinfect everything often means more cleaning supplies are also necessary. Sorry but expecting "normal" doesn't make sense at this time when everything is abnormal. It's not just a regular day, week, month.

I like a pantry/freezer of 3-12 months of food and personal/household goods. While it sounds like hoarding it’s not. The food is used and rotated, or given away 6-12 mos before expiration. I don’t give to a regional bank. I go local, its given out right away, not stored. Why keep 3-12 mos - family emergency, job loss, weather emergency and the list goes on. Whatever else is happening, there isn’t food insecurity. My ex was on family medical leave for 6 mos unpaid. The food was like a savings account we dipped into. $0 zero food budget was okay. It allowed heat and mortgage on my pay. No extras, but we were together and safe. This happened during a recession and most of my family were struggling. I could even help them a little. I also yardsaled and thrifted for a year of clothing for our son. People thought we were rich, but we were just prepared. So when others hit the shelves, I sat home watching and praying for their situations. After the frenzy calmed, I added to my stock pile as we will be adding 2 adults and a newborn soon. If this lasts longer then a year, fine. If not, I’m willing to donate any extra. When the virus threat ends there will still be those who need. So no, I’m not a hoarder, I use what I buy or freely give it away.

The thing with limiting items I feel is a good thing even if it means people have to get out into the stores a bit more. I find it rediculous that people are walking out of the store with 10 loafs of bread, 15 packages of toilet paper, 6 carton of eggs, like 10 + packages of various types of meat etc., and hoard all of it when people like my family struggle to find 1 2 lb package of beef or chicken on the shelves because people want to be greedy. And people do this couple times a week because people are freaking out. We haven't seen potatoes on the shelves for 3 weeks either. So I feel its 100%fair to put limits on stuff so that everyone can have a chance to get some, rather than a couple of people buy them out.

@@clarefullston5939 well unfortunately the same set of rules has to apply to Everyone no matter the circumstances. If you changed the rules for everyone then there will be nothing left for anyone else. Stocking up for 5 weeks can be excessive when people can't even get a full weeks worth at a time. Yes they have a huge family but that means more trips will be needed. Everyone is having to sacrifice their normal routine it shouldn't be any different because someone has a huge family.

The problem is that everyone is trying to shop for a month worth of groceries when there are immediate stocks only for one or two weeks worth. Also keeping in mind that with restaurants closing, children not eating at the school cafeteria and people working from / staying home, more meals than usual are being cooked at home, and so the need for food from general alimentation stores is obviously rising. There's a balance to find between stocking up enough to avoid going back to stores too often, but also having a sense "responsibility" or "community" (I don't know how to say it in english but like, people with large stocks of food are "safer" at the depends of people who don't/can't have stocks : while some people won't have to go out for the month, some people will have to go out several more times, and maybe also go to several different stores, just to get the basic necessities for a week because things aren't available. ). It's a shame that the store manager couldn't do anything regarding the fact that you have a large family, but if you told him you were shopping for the month... well this is still stocking up over the store capacities, and he must have dozen of people like you coming up to him all with very good reasons to do it but at the end the numbers add up. I know you guys are not hoarding, it's what you do usually for understable reasons, and are not complaining, and are not the only ones...etc.

Maybe they should adjusting for shop for 2 weeks or a week. Because this pandemic situation... Just have to make all of us adaptable with a "new" normal.

Indigo Snps The issue is they’re not really altering from their normal pattern. They only shopped once a month. It’s the rest of us that are causing this issue not them.

@@annamariagonzalez6934 Supplies are now limited with restaurants closed and many more now cooking at home. Everyone is having to make adjustments for short term buying. It appears selfish to me this family wants to continue as normal and buy 4 weeks worth. We all need to share rather than have the attitude of " I am going to get mine one way or the other". For some to to stockpile forcing others to go without is stupid and selfish.I bet Maria would like to make spaghetti tonight but she cant because of no hamburger....but Marsha surprisingly put 12packs of hamburger in her freezer yesterday. Back during WWII families were allocated how much they could buy and also how much gasoline they could buy. What would this family have done back then? Think about that. To put it in perspective, these two want to shop once for 4 weeks groceries probably forcing others to make numerous trips to grocery trying to find needed items. Nice family but they def showed defensive selfish moves seeking 4 weeks when 1 week should have been all they purchased

I am from Denmark and sure am glad we don’t have that silly system with only one pr. costumer. When you have a family of 12 people, it can’t be fair to have the same limets as a family of 2 or 4.. That is crazy. There has to be a better way.

We do not normally have a one per customer rule either, but when people heard about this pandemic, far too many went to the stores and cleared the shelves and then did it again and again every time the store got a new shipment. That left nothing for others, so items that were being hoarded required a limit in order for everyone to get some. In a country with fewer than 6 million people, hoarding can quickly be controlled, but in a country of 350 million, it can and did get out of control very quickly! The quickest, most fair way to end the hoarding was to place a limit of one each on items that are in high demand or lower in stock. Having an extremely large family doesn’t mean you cannot get what you want or need, it just means that you may temporarily need to shop more often than once every four or five weeks or just shop at more than one store so that there will be something on the shelves for every family who needs to feed their children!

I haven't watched a full video this long in a while. Thank you for sharing your life. We just moved at the end of February and while waiting for our house to close we lived in a hotel for 5 weeks!! Myself, my husband, my mom and 13, 7, 5 and 1 in a HOTEL! We are finally in our house now for almost 2 weeks and our first trip to Costco we had two FULL carts and LOTS of looks and comments. The cashier made us feel good by saying we weren't being jerks on what we were buying. Thank you for letting me share my story, I hope you all stay safe and healthy

It's sad when you can't shop without being judged. Everyones situation is different. There are people with large families or people who may be shopping for others like the homeless or the elderly. We all get that the stores are trying to limit items so that others can have but it is just sad. You just have to find creative ways to just get what you need...the legal way. Thank you for bringing us along and giving your perspective in these stores during this time.

It is not easy to adjust to buying little when one normally buys so much but one has to remember those who don't have the money to buy a day's worth. For me that makes me grateful. Plus I tell myself if no limits where placed I would not meet anything 😊 When the panic buying was going on I didn't do that. When I met empty shelves it shook my world. Even with the money to buy one can have nothing. The online order took over 2 weeks to come. Many lessons from this pandemic. We are all human and we should never forget that

Michelle, although it is a very scary time, try to resist fear and practice faith. Start believing God for answers to your prayers. As God answers these prayers this will reduce your fear and build up your faith. God loves you and he has not forsaken you! He will never leave you! Praying for you!

What is also frustrating is that I can't even use pick up anymore because since I have to wait for to get paid to buy food and they're booked 2 weeks in advance(you have to pay when you order). So I'm causing myself more pain having to go out and than hit 3 or 4 stores just to find food for two weeks.
