It is about cash flow. People get jammed up, and have deadlines on bills to avoid late fees or services cancelled. I remember when I was new in business, and would take the funds from a job and run to the bank to get it into account, so the phone bill payment would clear. I have sold off slow moving or non-moving inventory on private industry forums to convert to cash, to fund more needed equipment not in the budget. Who knows, maybe this guy just got 10 more of those player jerzees at 30 bucks a pop.

Us Old Timers in Chicago remember Polk Brothers. It was a local chain that sold appliances and electronics. It was one of the very first to offer discount pricing, when all other stores were required by manufacturers to sell at the retail list price. BUT ... there were NO price tags on the items. You had to ask a salesman - who greeted you at the door and followed you around. You could not leave the store until you bought something. You then had to haggle over the price. We always got the best deals there. It was a win-win for everybody. Except the other retailers.

One of the first things they thought me when I worked in a pawnshop is _don't make offers!_ Ask them what they're looking to get. Unlike retail stores, pawnshops are always willing to dicker. We pawned many things for certain customers that had no monetary value to the store but had sentimental value to the customer and 90% of the time these items were redeemed. This elderly woman pawned artwork her grandson did in school and every month she came and got them out.

Hey Peter, I'm new to your channel but, I feel like part of your family Brother lol. I can't get enough of watching your video's while I'm getting caught up with the channel. You seem to run a tight but fair ship with all your customers and have a great crew working with you. Including Honey, Ruby, and Milo I think his name was?? The best reminiscing for me is when I was stationed in California at Camp Pendleton. I had a Symease (sorry for spelling) cat from my teen years my parents kept while I was in boot camp and deployed over seas. I bought a cockatiel while In California as well and like your family. Mine neither one knew they were a bird or a cat lol and they got along fine with each other! They've both since passed on so again I thank you for letting me live some good times through you Peter. Sorry I wrote a novel to you but, it means a lot to me. Stay safe with everything going on around us in the world and God Bless you, your crew, your furry/feathery family, and your real family! Thanks again for the good clean fun binge watching brother!!

First pressings of many vinyl records from famous bands go for much more money. A lot of people don't know to look for that, but letting the right record go for a few bucks could be losing you a substantial amount of money. Example a first pressing of the Velvet Underground and Nico is about $3000. There's a ton of albums out there being found in collections from people selling their parents belongings with no idea what they have. And a first pressing of the Xanadu soundtrack with Olivia Newton John on the cover is considered a holy grail album due to the record being recalled and destroyed because Olivia didn't like the way she looked on the cover.

Anyone who takes ANYTHING to a pawn shop expecting to get anywhere close to the real value is nuts! Pawnshops are literally in business to take shit from poor people that have no better options for money. It always boggles my mind seeing people say “this sells for way more online!”
@way2sh0rt07grad3 жыл бұрын
That's what bothered me the most about Pawn Stars. Your going to bring in a piece of history and sell it to a pawn shop? On top of that, asking a premium lol
@anthonysaponaro63183 жыл бұрын
you're wrong about that though . . . . . the thing about selling for more online is true but online you're not getting that money right now so there obviously is some value there no? the issue is , he does not sell everything in the store, he has to do the work and wait when it goes online
@Gundumb_guy3 жыл бұрын
@@anthonysaponaro6318 well yea... I mean that’s pretty well understood I think. Mentioning how much something sells for online is irrelevant in a pawn shop. They are literally in the business of taking your most valuable objects for as little as possible. Besides the occasional middle aged guy who just wants to get rid of some old stuff of coarse.

Ebay has the majority today brainwashed in terms of value.
@JimBob19372 жыл бұрын
@@davidcarper5411 , the Ebay value is real, people just fail to understand Ebay is usually sale to consumer, and a trade shop like this is consumer to business. Businesses need margin as they then sell to consumer and need that spread. If others pay the price on Ebay, then the value is as real as anything else.
