With so few pieces on the board, he would’ve been thinking his king was relatively safe. And then suddenly this!! Very nice checkmate!

Opponent must have been kicking themselves after not only throwing what was a likely winning endgame but just getting smothered into this wild checkmate.
@rahullamba931810 сағат бұрын
I've actually been in a similar situation Nelsi. Since then I avoid walking a Rook or a King into tight spaces especially when there's a Knight there. I think most people have a blind spot for Knight Forks because there are also ones that emerge a move or two later (incl. ones with a sacrifice) and the fork geometry is such that its difficult to see all of them unless one specifically calculates possible forks for next 2 moves. Did you see that game where Hikaru was in the middle of a King-Rook fork and he tried to save the Rook and ended up walking into another one this time losing his Queen? If Hikaru can fall for it... LoL Thats why I wonder when experts say Bishops are a little better than Knights because they control more squares. Dont you think Knights are more valuable in the middle game with tight spaces and sacrifice setups? Sometimes because of the positioning, even in the endgame.

That is an insane and awkward looking checkmate but that's happened to me too where I've been too aggressive with my king and wasn't aware how close I was to being in a mating net and got mated, not in as spectacular way but where there were pawns and one piece involved, I think it was a rook in my case.

Nelson should have lost if the opponent moved the king to "king of the hill". In fact this game shown the importance for keeping the king at center files. Once you survived the attack and traded pieces, then you will reach a must win position. I always keep the king at center and not to castle king.
@Ordinarytone7 сағат бұрын
amazing, thank you.

Hi. Interesting and entertaining! At around 5:35 why did you check with RDE1 rather than RFE1? Did you want an unattackable rook as an anchor for the attacking rook ("Let's keep the rooks on the board")?

I think the confusion is likely to have been because at 0:14-15 he says "you're gonna enjoy this" and at 0:15-16 he says "I had to share it with someone" (both of which could hypothetically be laughed at but at which it would be weird to do so), and then the joke you're mentioning starts at 0:17

Don't downplay the World Championship that's so Petty. You just checkmate your opponent because he just makes a blunder. As you said wc are exciting gukesh and ding fighting great and that's fine. Just say things better don't be disrepectful
