Wow, what an incredible experience you had. I've been around humpbacks quite a lot in Southeast Alaska, but nothing anywhere near the level of your encounter. Obviously the whales were not bothered by your presence, quite likely the other way around, so to speak... I applaud how (as shown) you conducted yourselves by not trying to force your way closer. You appear to be present, be known, and allow the whales to decide whether or not they want to close the distance, and it appears that it well paid off. That was super cool and fun to watch. Looking forward to so many more of your adventures and experiences. Fair winds, calm seas, and cheers!

Yea, yea, yea, we all saw the whale. But did you see the gorgeous mermaid the was swimming with the whale, that is a major event in anybodys life. You could hear their enchanting voices. The Capt. is going to be eaten, he took the mermaid with him on the boat. OsoYolo, Antigua Guatemala.

So great. I swam with a whale once. And we made eye contact. I remember being in awe. My eyes must have transmitted that to him or her. Me reading the eye of the whale was telling me: "What the fuck are you?"

@klaudiaskyes29227 ай бұрын
Hi Did you actually get to touch the whales?
@Thenewkidsonthedock6 ай бұрын
Hey! We didn’t touch the whales :) Phoebe was probably within distance at times as they swam up to us. But regardless we wouldn’t have touched them. ‘Take nothing but footage, leave nothing but bubbles’. This is so important as human skin is covered with oils and bacteria, which can be harmful to marine species which have a layer of mucus over their bodies to protect themselves against their environment. Cheers, Josh

hey dude, this is the third negative comment you’ve made about me being in a bikini…have you got a fear of women’s skin? or have you time travelled from the 40’s? if so, maybe watching channels of people that live on the ocean aren’t for you 😬
@geoffcathcart71547 ай бұрын
Make sure you don’t touch them or it’s get the fisheries, After, like the cruising, Kiwis did and and Americans sailing.
@mattw56847 ай бұрын
I'm sure that was a moving experience, but aren't you supposed to stay 300 meters from whales in Australia? I just read online that the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMP) explicitly prohibits swimming with whales. I know here in the states they've been regularly increasing the required viewing distances because of the perceived impacts on whale behavior. Love the whales by giving them lots of space.
@TashCassidy7 ай бұрын
The GBRMP rules state “You must not approach closer than 30 metres to a whale or dolphin if you are in the water. If a whale or dolphin approaches you while you are in the water, move slowly, do not touch or swim towards it” they were already in the water and the whales came close to them.
@mattw56847 ай бұрын
@@TashCassidy Thank you. It does sound like they were within the law. I hope they will share with their followers what the restrictions are so that others will not actively seek out these kinds of experiences. I’ve had lots of great encounters with marine mammals while freediving only later to realize that I’d overstepped the bounds of responsible behavior in some of them.
@mattw56847 ай бұрын
And, rewatching just now, almost every clip shows someone chasing the whales in one way or another, not the whales approaching the humans.Again, it would be great if they discussed the ethics around interacting with marine mammals in a future episode.

I know how you feel a 40 years ago I was swimming off of kelpatty about 2 miles off of Santa Catalina Island in California not looking around that much I was trying to get dinner and a female and a male blue whale swim towards me by this huge kelpatty and I looked him right in the eye and it was really bitching and it just kind of looked at me again just kept swimming just slowly around the cup Patty and then away it was something else so I know how you feel
