Once More With Spearing (Physical Spearazon)

Since I saw your first two fails, I decided to try it for fun. worse 2 weeks ever lol. I basically farmed NM till I was almost 80.... I reset my map over and over till I got the easiest meph map ever. I found a lycander flank which made life easier. I must have killed Meph in NM with 200 MF about 2k times. I got all the best items you can get in NM. I even managed to get a shako from NM Baal. I never used it tho, kept on my Vamp Gaze and Smoke armor. like you, I used Nats boots. I also had IK belt, Rare gloves with IAS and resistance. I too found a Raven frost and a rare ring with LL and dual res. What helped the most was the charms I kept along the way. I kept every resistance/life charm I could find. Eventually I switch the Smoke for a Hustle runeword armor since being able to run fast made life easier and safer. also the IAS kept my life up while killing. You really need to use your skills while playing a spearzon. Valk, Decoy and that skill that lowers enemy defense, making them easier to hit. I used a Holyfreeze Act2 merc, he used a treachery that I swapped between us for fade, Insight and tals mask. The holyfreeze made life safer for me as well since I just ran away if my life got halfway. I later switched to Hell Pit runs till 83, I dont recommend that tho since I had more than 1 S&E moments with fanat archers. I play on PC tho so once I hit the ESC button, it pauses the game, cant die while looking in the menu. I abused that quite a bit, going through doors and tapping esc to see if I was about to run into a bad room. Took a 5 days alone to get through HELL mode. I went super slow, full clearing areas. In the Pits, I did find a mancatcher that I also made into an Obedience which made life easier. I think res is the most important thing on a spearzon since your up close and usually surrounded. I put an UM into my Vgaze for more res. I also had a Nokozan ammy which gave me 85 Fire res. Baal Hell was a total shitshow... wave 2 nearly killed me since poison was my worst res. If I didint farm full juvs i probably would of never made it past wave2. I lead wave5 out the room and baal was EZ mode. this is what I did, if you try again, hope some of this info helps you.

@@thenuclearrabbit Haha yes, i'm a very patient person. After 20yrs of D2 ive learned to be patient. Game seems to reward persistence. I hope you try again, spend more time in NM farming. Good drops will come, you just need to grind it out haha. 1min meph runs, 60 runs per hour, Hustle runeword and break your rule to use a telestaff to jump the moat and I think your end result will be more favorable. @@christophermanabat1934 As my previous comment - then again, what's the point to refarm everything over and over, statistically, you can do every "run" unlimited meph/andy runs and then you probably get mirror of your stuff you already have. Seems pointless to do SSF. I'd go with max 20 runs on each boss and I live with what I have or die trying, literally (in game)

Nice. I am playing a softcore SSF spearzon and I've died a lot so far lol. Yeah, Inner Sight is actually really good, because of how it affects the chance to hit formula. Like, I don't even go into penetrate, just 1 point for the small boost, Inner Sight maxed is better and it helps your merc too. Currently finished nightmare and farming for hopefully a mancatcher or something, there's no way I'll be doing hell with my current weapon. Oh yeah, did you use a life tap wand? They're insane. Me and my merc can tank pretty much anything as long as we keep attacking lol.

Congrats man… this shit is hard… I die one time while tried to farm in Kurast temple, three packs of champion might. Fanaticism and AMP just pop my character within one sec lol fucking tragic! My advice never go into those five temple for five extra stats in hell unless you are non hardcore and feeling lucky.. that tiny temples are not worth it!

Fun fact: spears are the least complicated to use weapons irl. Even a fat basement dweller could use one effectively, just take it and poke your target with the pointy end, literally run into it. That's why we've been using them for as long as we were able to use tools. Spears are great when you're facing your enemy, but bad at getting cornered. But if you have a buddy at your side with a spear to cover you and he has a buddy too.. That's how the phalanx came to be!

yeah that is my pet peeve with DnD every human SHOULD have proficiency witha spear. We literally have. After the stone age, it is quite literally in our DNA. And the crazy part is spears are still used today! (Well, for a flexible definition of a spear but a gun with a bayonett is essentially a short spear). Spears are just perfect as a weapon, long reach, meaning good at keeping stuff away from you, meaning good at keeping you alive, super cheap and easy to make (which is why they were as predominant in history as they were) and as you said super instinctual to use although you can become much more effective with training of course. Combine them with a shield and a lot of buddies and it needs especially devised counter strategies. Plus our good old pointy sticks are about the only thing short of blacking out the sky with arrows that can stop a cavalry charge. (although that too works different when everyone thinks. Everyone thinks it's just mass suicide by horse: Well, every rider can tell you, horses are more interested in homicide than suicide: Big pointy wall? nope thank you, off you go stupid human.and you have bucking horses collisions and a stampede if the cavalry does not veer off in time)

@@Metalhammer1993 I agree with everything, buuut the fact that we can use it proficiently just like that. Everyone can use it, sure, but using it well in combat- ah, that takes fitness and practice. Bayonet fighting is also not an easy job. I know, because I do both!

Lord let me have a shield. They will at the very least get the pointy end into me. That they lose against someone with a spear who knows what they do is a given. But if push comes to shove I really can't think of anything else that I would trust an untrained person like in a peasant army to not get themselves killed with. And that's the bar I'm setting for 'proficiency' here: can you use that thing to save your life? Sure, if the two of us had at it you'd beat me 10 times out of ten. Still I would be very careful approaching a newbie who has a spear while using a long sword. Heck even with short sword and shield I'd be marginally more comfortable. And that is entirely disregarding the 'newbie crazies' although I do not know how much of a thing they are in spearmanship 😅 (i swear you have not practiced HEMA with any blade for long enough if you didn't get whallopped by a completely suicidal stunt by a new guy at least once.)

But yeah you definitely need some training if you are drafted into a war. I placed the bar a tad low for sure. In a war without training you're dead meat, there you are 100% right. Still it is probably the most instinctual weapon to use and I genuinely do believe that it is due to how long we've been using spears. Like it literally became a selective pressure

Objectives and goals: Phys Spearzon Impale/Fend Hell clear. We got Mr. Rabbit who plays HC SSF Console (maybe some tactics aren't viable), but has a lot of patience. This build is hard by itself (skills mechanics, gear dependant, melee nature of no AoE/lack of CC), harder because of HC variant, even harder by chosen weapon class (insane stats requirement and low uniqs/runewords). You need to know desirable weapon from the start, lol. It's my thoughts, and you need to test before with a leveled char.

Stats distribution. Don't chase all spears requirements from a begining. Try to stick to lowest normal (0 str, 20 dex)/exeptional (25 str, 25 dex) versions. Until you farm runes, bases and some gems. Invest in vitality mostly. Check on levels to upgrade to exeptional version. HC and no-shield dictates big HP pool, damage reduction, magic damage reduction, resistances, some absorb and life/mana leech. No MF only gear if you struggle. Melee (cannot be frozen and attack rating) and low CC needs knockback, chance to flee for crowds, freezes target. Boss damage is fine, but crushing blow, open wounds are good for some swap.

Before Hell you gain damage via charms, TalTalTal socketed spears, Malice/Strength runeword in a spear, damage stats on items (uniques armor pieces and circlets), even some thorns in normal if you can handle. If no uniques and runes before Hell, try to gamble a rare or crafted Safety weapons with a self-repair roll (insane luck needed) because of Impale skill mechanics. Indestructible if even more hard to get. Skill wise. Not sure about Fend (not good, bugged), but Jab and Impale is nice. Just test on a different char Jab after skill level 6. Somehow you don't use Inner Sight or Slow Missiles (not convinient for a console maybe), but not using Decoy is very sad. You need to scout with it, lure mobs attention. Also good for Valk HP. Dodge, Avoid and Evade at least 1. Need to some test for your playstyle.

I played with spearzon in hc. It was a boring, difficult and slow experience. But I found an almost perfectly rolled Arioc's Needle after that spearazon became pretty fun to play.

You could try other mid runes to boost your resistant, lionheart, smoke for helm try to find other all res items. You are so close getting it done, I would be so pissed to die on act 1 hell because of avoiding the monsters you could take. I think IAS and jab with crushing blow could work wonder to non physical monsters. Try to get passive skill to mid 40% to increase your effective health. I am sure I will see your part 4,5 attempt on spearzon. This shit is hard lol

Ita a bug. In classic LOD if u Press exit the in game time should stop. But in d2r it do not. Also the same rhing happens in loading screen while TP to another location, time goes on when u w8ing to loading screen go off. So if mobs spawn near by TP you can die in loading screen.

Why not just to use items you already have. Seems redundant to re-farm everything over and over. I was doing HC SSF runs where the simple rule was - what's dead is dead. It was inevitable that in some runs I just run out of gold or didn't get right items. But that was a great experience.

Oh yeah those kind of things are amazing to play. Although I can't ever imagine running out of gold. it's so easy to farm if you know how to do it. I've recently been incorporating more shared stash runs into the channel to just use the items I have laying around and clear some mules.

@@thenuclearrabbit ​ @thenuclearrabbit The issue with gold on "what's dead stays dead" runs is that you can't revisit any area you previously were except towns for NPCs so you need to be very careful how you spend it. No gold from previous farming allowed. Obviously it runs to a barbarian run but there are drawbacks which you probably know very well playing that damned WW haha. I'd be interested if you can pull it off in your videos. Don't get me wrong, you are cool and skilled, I just think there should be some limits on farming otherwise you can use what you found already before the run, including gold of course.

I never trade - makes 0 sense (and Diablo 2 creator, Eric Schaefer says same thing) and given how good QoL mods are for offline, online is dead to me, always was. So - we should probably call it solo - clean slate found. I am going to do that "what's dead stays dead" run with a barb - but not HC, I consider save and exit as failed run for HC, so I go SC and just die sometimes. Good luck!

@@thenuclearrabbit Why didnt you make a hustle, smoke or treachery runeword? any of the three would of been an improvement over Vmagi. where you playing online? you can get an easy meph map if you were offline and do 1min meph runs with a telestaff to jump the moat. a Lycanders Flank can drop in NM.

Spearzon was improved, but it is still a really tough build to work with. They needed to give spears more durability, not everyone can get a EBOTD wep or a Steel Pillar.

There was a russian tournament some time ago. They called it Iron Man Rules. There was No TP allowed. No safety quit. Some players could finish hell Baal. But I think there were no melee chars able to do that. I enjoy watching and playing such runs a lot!

You probably took fatal damage the instant you saved and exited. I don't know how this works for offline tbh. For online I can see lag/ping and server/client being an issue where it's understandable you might think you S&E'd in time but the server disagrees. My HC view has always been if you have to S&E it's a last ditch thing to avoid death. Which means if you didn't S&E you'd have died anyway. Anyway bad break mate and hope you get this one down eventually. You had a lot going for you this run. Lot of lucky drops. Hope you have even better luck next time. I assume you went with the Fire Iron Wolf mage for the Enchant proc to help your Fend? Perhaps a better use case would be the Cold Iron Wolf for the crowd control. I don't see the Enchant proc being that useful since you should have Penetrate and Inner Sight used in conjunction and Impale always hits anyway. Also use Decoy!

Yeah I know about the delay with it online. It's a big motivator for me to play offline. S&q is all about survival in a run like this. I very rarely use it to move around faster cause I'm not speedrunning. This one had so much going for it. But I will get it at some point. I think I'd take the holy freeze merc over the cold a3 one. Next time you try this run- might need to grind NM countess until you can upgrade to a Lem rune so you can make a treachery. The IAS, Fade, and Venom proc is just too good to pass up. That’ll be one hell of a grind unless you get lucky on NM forage. Sorry gamer! That death was total bs. ❤

The level loading and exit lag factors are apparently MUCH worse with D2R than they were with "original" LoD -- and that was no fun either. Blizzard doesn't care. They are making buckets of money anyway and have no incentive to fix it.

i see what they were going for, but it doesn't work well: On keyboard+mouse it doesn't pause the game when you open your inventory or character screen, only when you hit escape. They're mimicking that, but it just feels bad having to tab over before the game pauses.

I have had runs die because I forgot I to go to the correct tab before when answering phone calls and stuff. It's not great.

Yeah besides the horrible inventory system, this is another reason why playing on pc is so much better. Save and quit takes like 0.5 seconds max.
