You CAN NOT play Hardcore Diablo 2 (any flavor) without near-max resists, particularly in the two higher difficulty levels. The chances of you eventually getting 1-shotted are 100% for all intents and purposes.

Nice videos, I enjoy watching the process a lot. There are a couple things I could recommend - utilize white scepters and/or using chipped gems in weapons early game, it really is a QOL changer, to the likes of Stealth.

Also, when fighting champion packs, your odds are better at killing off 'normal' members of the pack. I know you know these, but habits are important.

You need knock back gloves or something. Creatures are sticky anyway and spear has reach. Slow on weapon will help too or blind. So you can slow/blind with fend or with jab. Also decoy and walk is also must. Mercenary with holy freeze is good or with heal and insight, plus some heal on yourself to get at least something countering constant hits which virtually increase your life total.

Love the hc play through may I suggest more points in fend not impale also slow missles for ranged attackers and use decoy for safety and crowd control

I did a lot of points in fend the first time around and found the skill very dissapointing and I was actually quite impressed with Impale. I could try the other things :)

Is your intention to use mainly impale as your main skill? Even if they got reworked, I would only put 1 point in the evasion skills. Also critical strike would see only one point from me. I suggest to skill inner sight and decoy. Decoy gets aggro from packs and you stand second line, drop their defense with inner sight and slay away with fend. I would try it like this, if there is a third try in line ;-) Excellent content by the way. I'd love to hear and see more about how you skill and how your equipment lines up.

The ask was jab and impale as a build. So the focus is on that. There will be a third try I just need time in between them so I don't burn out :) but it has been itching again. For sure

You died to the fire enchant bug in Nightmare. This is very common. When you see fire enchants like in Travincal and Ancients you need to be a safe distance from them or the fire explosion will kill you.

Nice, man. You ever try the spearzon before d2r? I always loved the spearzon, the buffs feel great. I beat lod hc ssf with a fend zon back in the day, was one of the hardest runs I've done. With the fend bug all I could do was max decoy and not let myself get mobbed too hard since you couldn't rely on dodge skills.

There used to be a bug in NM where fire/light enchanted mobs did game-breaking damage so I was wondering if you played this on that patch somehow Someone who does these calcs often might have better numbers but from my quick calcs since Ismail has 6834hp on players 1 NM and 7-11.6% of that will corpse explode via that fire enchanted so he's doing ~470-792 raw damage (half phys half fire) when he explodes in a melee range radius. You're also cursed so you have a 100% increased physical damage from the amp damage so the explosion is already 470-792 physical damage, plus whatever the fire damage was reduced by your fire immunity, so I think its possible he just 1-pieced you here with the 600hp

I know about the bug, as far as I know it's still there. But I do have to admit I don't follow patchblog's or anything. I totally trust you on the numbers. After it happened I just went to char creation and started a new run. I've ripped way to many chars to really bother figuring it out at this point. I just remember my stupidest rips. But yeah he totally oneshot me :)

This run took like a third of the time of the first attempt. This attempt was much, much smoother to play. That was players1 council. Fire enchanted is just so much damage.

i have a spearazon in hc, and I think the key is merc + valk + decoy then coming in from the side. It's just too difficult to get the hp, defense and resistances to be able to take on anything upfront. I might try a holy freeze merc as well. unlucky on that ce, that's randomly killed me on a high hp overleveled bo'd barb berfore. at this point when I'm amped vs council I let my minions hit the finishing blow on hc ;p

With self found melee builds, you want to gamble for weapons. At level 20 you can gamble a pike. If you get lucky you'll get one with 20-80 damage and some leech. Fend is going to feel a whole lot better if you have something like that.

They should add some cheap and powerful socketing recipes to address the problem. I want to put 4x shael into my cruel lance.

I think that you do need to make compromises with a spearazon. Like you do actually need to spec into Lightning Strike or sth for PIs and wave clearing, and Fend is basically your go to physical skill against crowds. With some crushing blow, Impale is still better than Lightning Strike and, hell, even Charged Strike against bosses. One think to note, try using Slow Missiles. On level 5 (which you can easily get with 1 hard point and four soft) it gains a significant missile dampening effect even against Souls, and reduces missile physical damage by 20% which is HUGE for Hell Archers.

Speccing into lightning strike is better but beats the point of the run. I'll do a dual spec run at some point but the request was pure physical. Which I fully believe is a very doable run. I just got unlucky on the death. I could try slow missile for sure :)

The TalTalTal thing you did is wrong :) When you use Tal runes in weapons you want to hit once every 5 seconds and dodge meanwhile. If you want to keep attacking use other runes, like Ral early on.

Self-found spearazon is the saddest thing in all of D2. (And I know because I've played every build there is to 70+, most to 85+, some to 98, all only ever hc.). Even twinked up she's still sad. She has: - no crowd control skills ... no curses, smoke, confusion, mass knockback, blindness ... nothing - no damage enhancement like amplify - no decent ranged attacks (unless you go javazon or bowazon, at which point you're not a spearazon at all, and hybrid is inferior to pure) - broken damage mitigation skills that are actually more hazardous to take points in than just to ignore altogether ... it literally gets worse the more points you take (dodge, avoid, evade). - access to her summon requires you to take the potentially fatal damage mitigation skills - incredibly slow attack speed with the primary attack (impale) ... even shaeled up with mas IAS, it will be slow, potentially so slow that your target may actually have moved out of range between beginning and ending the frames. - a multi-attack (fend) that requires you to be completely surrounded on all sides, 360°, by closely packed foes to have maximum efficacy Broken, broken, broken. Playing at all, even twinked, is just not fun. She could have a role in boss kills if decked out fully in massive hr gear, but others can do that better for less. Not fun.
