The way I would have done the sequels is to make the new republic the main guys and keep the first order but make the resistance a resistance against the new republic. The resistance are rich members that were part of the empire who funded the death stars and lost everything. So they support the first order. And I would add the crimson gang from solo as well as the separatist alliance. This is different from the separatists in the prequels but the same (they aren’t the enemy). So the new republic would work with the separatists so that the first order doesn’t rule the galaxy. The trilogy x2 (six movies) would end with the new republic on top with the separatists still around. The separatists being the separatists wouldn’t like that the new republic is head of the whole galaxy so this would set up another trilogy for profit.

Based take that the resistance should’ve been the new republic army. In Andor and Ahsoka it shows the republic as being well established in Coruscant which is how the empire grew to its size. So it makes no sense how the first order was that big. The first order should’ve been the final order or whatever bs was cooking on Exegol with a new sith (not palp) trying to bring back the sith empire. Maybe mace windu survived and used the dark side to stay alive after his encounter w palp and became the new sith
