I kept my ovaries on the advice of the drs, 1 year later I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer that had spread. If I had know the risk I never would have kept them, and I had no genetic factors on testing. Surgical menopause isn't fun but it's easier than chemo, debulking surgery and post anti hormone treatment.

I’ve been on Lupron to suppress my ovaries for a year and a half now. I’m having a hysterectomy with ovaries next month. One, I’ll be able to stop the shots that are over $4k each. I’d be having them for the next 4 years. I figure it’s also less parts that can get cancer!
@kayaker99129 ай бұрын
Oh, I am sorry to read this! I had a hysterectomy at 44, not because of cancer, but because of every other kind of female issue, so they took it all, I didn't need to go down any further road, but it did scare me to have the ovaries out, due to heart issues in my family and because I have a weird heart condition. I never took any hormones and just dealt with whatever came my way in terms of menopause, I am now 63, and happy I did it. I hope you are doing much better now!

This is why you make your own medical decisions; even if they don't like it. I don't trust doctor's. They can give me their opinion, but ultimately, the decision is the patients. I treated my breast cancer holistically and NONE of my doctors liked it, but I am the only one who has to live with the results good or bad. If the decision is bad, then it's because I made the decision; not a doctor who would be in my life for a short period of time.

Hi Jessica I recently found your story on You Tube. My 78 year old Mum was diagnosed on the 20th December. She got her appointment with surgeon on the 11th of January and had a full hysterectomy on the 16th of January. They removed her Uterus, both ovaries, tubes and lymph notes as the cancer had spread to the ovaries . We are in Australia. Mum spent 3 nights in hospital. 6 week recovery. cannot even pick up a Kettle and then she is going to need further treatment. The generic testing we were told is for future generations so for me and my two daughters to get tested. Definitely push and don’t take no for an answer. You should definitely be priority at your age. Sending positive vibes x

I am a therapist, specializing in bereavement and loss. As an intern, and a hospital, it was my job to provide comfort and care and bereavement education to families. When my one year internship was over, I went to the hospital executives and talked to them about how I could make a difference if they were to hire me to provide this kind of care. They politely said thank you but no, thank you! I went on to have a successful, private practice, and open a children’s bereavement center called Olivia‘s House, in York, Pennsylvania. I know God had his hand in all of this, but it makes me sad to think that the hospitals have needed this kind of patient support since 1990 and still resist it! Good luck with your surgery, you will be in my prayers ❤🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

I am so very sorry that your whole experience has been this way. It's mind blowing that our healthcare system treats patients this way. You should have been given a care manager to help you navigate this as best and as quickly as possible THE MOMENT you were diagnosed. I am happy that you have received the overwhelming support from everyone else. I just wish we could have this type of support in healthcare as well. I pray that your surgery is as minimally invasive as possible and that you heal well. I also pray that you NEVER have to experience anything remotely close to this ever again.

First, so happy for you that you’ve finally seen an oncologist! I know it’s been a long time coming. I also want to say that as someone who works in healthcare administration, I really appreciate your perspective, and I am saddened by your experiences so far. The term “the squeaky wheel gets the grease” reigns supreme in healthcare. The healthcare system is so broken, that you have to provide constant pressure to get any timely results. Keep showing up in person if you have to. Keep asking questions. And maybe one day our children won’t have to fight for their lives like we have to.

My doctor took my ovaries because he said it wasn't worth taking the chance to leave them. Other than hot flashes, the whole thing wasn't bad. The peace of mind i got from having my ovaries gone with the rest of it was worth every hot flash. I was 39 years old when I had it done and now I am 62. If you are done having babies, let them take the ovaries. Genetics can play a big part in the decisions but even knowing I don't have the braca gene that runs in the family, I do know that they don't know everything about how and why a person gets cancer. That made the decision to take the ovaries simple. Take care of yourself and keep on fighting for yourself! If they don't listen, GET LOUDER!

Absolutely agree with the level of frustration. I’ve had stage 4 appendix cancer with pseudomyxoma peritonei for 14 years and realized quickly, just like you are now learning, is that you have to drive all of it forward. It doesn’t get smoother, you just get used to doing it. Question everything, don’t be afraid to change surgeons or other doctors if they are not honest and open with you, or giving poor service. Remember, they work for you. No one, and I truly mean no one, will proactively take care of your cancer eradication as well as you will. Best of luck to you ❤️

Yay for a date! Get rid of it all! And if they offer you something called a morcellation, decline! I've worked in pathology for over 20 years (we are the people who will look at your uterus under the microscope), and have seen these types of hysterectomies lead to cancer being flung all over the inside of the body. Open or arthroscopic. Thinking of you!!

Yes definitely find out in advance how the procedure will be done. You can still have a minimally invasive procedure but during the procedure the organ or organs are somewhat bagged before disturbing or removing the cancerous organ to prevent spreading. I believe this can also be done robotically. Write down all your questions and be certain you are reasonably comfortable with the answers. It is your right and it is their job. ❤

I am 63, I had a hysterectomy at 44, due to all sorts of female issues, I told them to remove everything, so there is less chance of other female cancers. I also have a funky heart (I was born with-apparently), and have major heart conditions in my family, so even though I had the ovaries out, I have not had any problems with heart health (so far), but I am a runner, kayaker, hiker so that may help. Good luck! Stay vigilant, be persistent with the medical field people, you and your husband need to keep advocating for yourself and I am happy you were on the day of the oncology appt. Prayers for you in March, stay positive, eat well, take deep breaths, that is also something cancer hates it deep breathing and oxygen. You got this!!!

So sorry you are dealing with all of this, I have had 2 big surgeries, second was a radical hysterectomy to remove what was left, if the surgeon had done what I wanted, the second could have been avoided and the genetic uterine cancer would have been avoided. Even the never ending menopausal symptoms are worth it to know that ovarian, uterine and cervical cancer are no longer a problem. I do have an increased risk for bowel and breast cancer, but knowing I have Lynch Like Syndrome means I do more regular screening, if it happens chances for cure are much better. They saved a small part of one ovary in the big surgery when I was 33 to stop me going into menopause, and said I might want to do IVF and have a baby later on, they said nothing else woukd grow on that piece of my only ovary because it was too small... they were wrong. A big suspicious mass did grow, only waited 7 weeks, turned out ovarian mass was benign, uterus was the cancer. Do the genetic testing, I found that very interesting and very useful, but keep in mind that you may have to be opened up again if you choose to keep bits that coukd have been removed. Keep advocating. I know your healthcare system is very different to ours here in Australia. I had 4 days in ICU and another 5 days on the maternity ward and all done in the public system so no bill to pay at the end. So glad you have a lovely supportive husband...

OMG Jess I can relate to this video in a lot of ways the "health care" system needs a lot of improvement for sure! I'm my city we have 2 big hospitals and they are like day and night opportunities, like one of you happen to talk to someone they act like you ruined their day and interrupted them and then the other hospital has nurses that really love their job. I went through some stuff a couple of years ago not getting answers and finally I said I want to talk to the Dr not his staff not his nurse THE DR and they knew I was serious and he called me and finally I got some answers. It's just unbelievable that I didn't go to med school but I was doing the medical professionals jobs and I was getting different answers from different med staff and it was just a confusing mess it's like that game you whisper in the fist person in the line and by the time the last person hears it it's not even what was said. I am sending you a ton of hugs and prayers! I'm so glad you out your foot down and weren't gonna take no for an answer but sucks that that's what had to happen. ❤️

Hi Jessica, I live in South Africa. The sun is always shining here and there is always the risk of developing skin cancer if you have a light skin. I developed a growth on the lower eye lid of my right eye. I do not know if it is cancer or just a benign growth but I went on a high nutrition diet for about two months and the growth have shrunk noticeably. I would like to share the diet with you. The soup Ingredients: - two handfuls of Chopped broccoli, one chopped onion (purple), two bags of green tea, two pinches of mixed herbs, two sticks of cut celery, Two handfuls of frozen and crushed spinach or kale, half a table spoon of crushed garlic, Three shakes of black pepper, seven shakes of turmeric, two tablespoons full of apple cider vinegar (with the mother), one bag of white onion powder soup for flavour, a hand full of cooked red speckled beans and a handful of cooked mince meat. Just add all the ingredients in a pot, add boiling water and switch the stove on high till the water boils. Then lower the heat until the water simmer, Let the soup simmer for an hour. The soup is now ready. I would only drink water in the morning. At 12h00 I would start eating the soup. There will be about two helpings that you can eat in the 12h00 to 18h00 time frame. I also ate a fruit salad every day in the 12h00 to 18h00 time frame. (Note: Apparently turmeric reduces the effect of some chemotherapy drugs and thus should not be taken during chemotherapy.) During the rest of the week I would also eat food that contains vitamin D like avocado’s, mushrooms, liver and eggs in the 12h00 to 18h00 time frame. It seems to be working for me, maybe it will also work for you. I pray to God the Father in the name of Jesus Christ that you will be healed. Amen. Best regards Chris “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”. John 3:16 (King James Version Bible) Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son Of God the Father.

There should be people providing empathy, kindness, etc. They are an oncology social worker that should help you through this freaking process. It is unreal that they aren't. These social workers can put pressure on insurance, and provide any resource you need. It is supposed to take all the stress off you so you can just deal with your diagnosis and treatment. My husband was even having issues with his insurance and they got that taken care of in a jiffy. I'm telling you they help with everything. My oncologist even comes into the infusion clinic to see how I am doing every time I come in!

It’s not just the insurance, it’s the Lawyers too. Lawsuits. I also have a friend who works for a university that has nursing programs, he mentioned to me that nurses are the worst to deal with. They think they deserve more than any other student, and deserve better support. So it think it is the medical community and the culture, that could be at play.

My husband's grandfather died because of the Canadian health care system. The biggest problem here is that insurance companies are now required by the government to cover everyone. It's overloading the system. We joined a cost sharing group and haven't had any trouble since. We pay cash or receive a bill and submit it to the ministry.
@nicholerayner67369 ай бұрын
They in turn divide the payments amongst a few other families and we receive checks in the mail to cover our care. It has cost us less than what we were paying for insurance and it's definitely cheaper than the higher taxes that we would have paid living in Canada.

The medical system is better if each person were to pay for their health care. It also would be better if insurance companies weren't required to cover everyone.

When I found out I’d miscarried my daughter I had to wait in a room, surrounded by sounds of Dopplers picking up other heartbeats, hearing nurses laughing and talking at the nurse’s station (which is totally fine for them but not what I wanted to be hearing). I feel like every office should have a counselor on staff with a room for people to go to if they get the worst news. Just to have a kind person to help you for a few minutes. It would’ve made a difference for me.

This is absolutely incredulous!!!! 2 MONTHS FOR CANCER?!?!? No. Mine had spread from my thyroid to the lymph nodes around my lungs while I waited for my surgery. I am a doctor and have worked in healthcare for 15 years. They CAN SEE PATIENTS with the system down. Where are you?!?? Please find a new physician. The whole system generally is either up or not for the entire place at once. They can see you and use paperwork. It’s called “downtime.” Any time the system is updated, it’s “downtime” for us. But things continue running, as they do when anything else happens to cause it. Best wishes to you. This is absolutely unreal. Wild. Wondering if you had a PET scan and have been staged?? You should see a doctor the week of diagnosis. But you are correct; you do want a highly regarded doctor that everyone wants to see. Just sounds like he or she is triple booked. Our healthcare system is a wreck, and every level- nurses, techs, doctors- including myself- are leaving. We are treated like trash by patients, family, insurance, and most of all, management who doesn’t spend a second working in any area they oversee. I’m so sorry you’ve been through this. Always take someone if you can to help advocate and ask questions. Smart to record everything. And absolutely true- the smartest med students got into the best fields, despite having any people skills AT ALL. It was truly tragic. I’m dealing w infertility and IVF, trying to find a way to pay off 1 round ($22k) that only got me 1 good embryo. Having a baby is my dream and I’ve had 2 miscarriages. Am 36 and menopause is expected at 37 bc of cancer treatment at 29 unexpectedly destroying my eggs. Doing it alone already $600k in debt from school. Cancer sucks. All the best to you.

You guys have the best vibe. Good for you to refuse to leave the office. The way they treated you was abysmal. Maybe local news should cover this? How many other people is this happening to? Glad you two have each other.

I’m so glad you finally got seen by the oncologist! ❤️What stage of cancer did they say you have?

I have a family member in the same situation and usually they aren't able to tell until they remove the uterus and look at it

It's Crazy that u are now so relieved and grateful and happy...that u have to go through all these more tests and surgery etc. I mean. I get it after the shit show to get here. But, you are also allowed to be sad/scared/ etc 💜

If it gives any peace, my hysterectomy recovery was insanely easy. You’ll definitely be slow for a month or two and just take it easy for at least a couple of weeks, but I had zero pain. I was just tired. I’m sorry you’ve had such an insanely frustrating time so far but hopefully that means it will be smooth sailing from now on!

Here’s the thing. Sure, you’re not a customer. The insurance is. BUT you are a patient. You deserve to be treated fairly and with dignity while you are (trying to) accessing care.

You have such a sense of humor about the ridiculousness of the lengths you’ve had to endure to get the attention you deserve. Unfortunately, this has been my experience, too. Keep advocating for yourself-it’s the ONLY way.

Make sure to look up the laws though, looks like California could be a two party consent state which makes it a felony without telling them ahead of time

R u stage 1? waiting so long.. and only expect surgery no chemo or radiation? You are very lucky if that's all you need. A second opinion at Mayo (asap) if you are able might b very important. Call them and see if they will see you, fly if too far away for appt., if need to and can. More info and expedited treatment from them might save your life. I did with stage 4 ovarian 15 months ago. My local medical team couldn't get me in for a biopsy for 4 weeks. Mayo got me in the next morning!!!! treatment started 1 week later.... just saying time is precious right now. Sending you love and light;))

I can’t believe these fools had the audacity to be annoyed with you when they are the ones not doing their job when you have something serious going on. They were clearly trying to blow you off and didn’t expect you to fight for your appointment. How do these people sleep at night🤔

Just FYI, they've already intentionally delayed care... You could definitely sue not saying you should but you could

I have worked with health insurance companies for 20 years for patients... i fight tooth n nail on a daily Basis to get them to pay and cover patients needs its ridiculous what they get/try to get away with. We All pay our butts off just to have it and to make it hard on people that need to utilize it burns my toosh on a daily basis. One of them actually said to.me .."do you know who ur talking to" Uh Yes i do, cleary you dont!!! They paid the patients claims but man i wanted to pull a freddie kruger on him.. dont let any of them rake advantage of you, You have to advocate for yourself and if you cant make sure someone else can. ❤

I worked at a doctors office for a network and when our system went down we would go old school pen and paper baby. It ended up causing a long wait time for everyone and lots of paperwork but we got it done.

Phones are down 🤨🧐 how did they call personal phone. I'm so upset at this . Me myself was diagnosed two weeks ago I feel like I'm going in circles. They keep referring me from this doctor to the next and every time it takes days before you even get an appointment. I'm overwhelmed. May God be with you.
