Sky dominates cycling right now because they have the most money that equals to the best doping. A track cyclist that after a few years wins Tour de France beating all these specialists from mountains that have been training in mountains since many years, come on, it is like a guy who runs 800 meters and suddenly beats Bolt.

It's really hard to believe that he's 100% clean after almost all previous winners, or top finishers have tested positive for at least some kind of banned substance. We all know how hard it is to win the Tour de France and it takes a lifestyle trimmed to perfection to do it. If this was done by pure talent? I highly doubt that, there are thousands of excellent riders who emerge at age 16-24 and still, don't even come close to winning any of the big races. never mind the Tour de France. Obviously, Lance has done a great deal of damage to the sport, but only because he got 7 wins. I don't think that at this point we can talk about a rider's ability, or talent, we all know that it's all about sponsors, money, expectations and building a brand name. Without let's call it "dope" l think it's humanly impossible to accomplish that. My opinion. And not just cycling.

The audacity, I mean Armstrong's biggest mistake was being so out there and not staying behind the spotlight and this guy actually has the guts to talk about Lance essentially making the same mistake as he is taking an interview. Does he even have a PR team advising him, what stupid move. Everyone at the top is on EPO, even regarding Cadell being clean is wishful thinking, we justify it by saying his nothing like the rest in the mountains or that Australia is strict on performance enhancing drugs but the reality is they are all on it. You can't compete if you are not on EPO, simple.

There is data from the top 10 finishers in the tour from 1975 and approx 8 out of 10 were caught doped (others probably doped, just not caught or confessed). To argue that todays top cyclists are not doping (in one way or another) is to argue that todays top bodybuilders are not using steroids... In order to compete at these levels you must have a boost. If the riders are not doping we should see the peloton times slow down to what they were in the late 80s and early 90s just prior to EPO use skyrocketing in pro cycling. The times are still on par with doping times as far as I can tell. I say legalize everything and let them race. Let them go. It will be more entertaining for us the fans to watch. Just like the MR Olympia contest; Its very entertaining to watch FREAKS the size of houses walk around and flex. Imagine if all sports were clean and it really was the best man winning...How boring for us. We would all develop ideas that we could possibly make it to that stage ourselves. The whole world would exercise, train, eat healthy and get super-fit.... I have met way too many nice fat people to support this path.

TdF speeds peaked out in 2005. For those of you who pay attention to these things you'll notice that this is around the time testers were developing methods like the biological passport. To suggest otherwise is to either be ignorant of the data or to intentionally misrepresent it to fit the moral equivalence narrative.

So sincere....so heartfelt.....so down to earth and matter of fact. One has to wonder if this was recorded before or after his fraudulent applications for TUE of banned substances. Funny how something like 50% of the peloton has asthma......it's almost like having an ailment that limits your ability to breath actually provides an "assist" and can make you a better cyclist. Look, I'm not buying what ANY of these riders keep trying to sell until they stop doing what Wiggins did here and instead respond to all doping questions with: Yes, it's rampant, it's ubiquitous, the pressure to participate is constant, it did not go away when they caught Lance. It simply went deeper underground and the team doctors and loophole finders are consistently one step ahead of enforcement. Until then the "All clear after Lance" baloney is exactly that....baloney. Lance is the G.O.A.T it’s kind of fucked up how he got thrown under the bus just so the uci could save some face, i believe an in-depth look on most pro cyclist (and athletes) of that era (and perhaps today) might pop some questions (Wiggins included) about how clean they were. In the end televised sports main goal is to sell and engage. institutions use athletes to achieve those goals with out caring about their health and the repercussions of pushing their bodies to the limit. We are talking about the same sport where an English man got so fucked on opioids and alcohol that he died atop Mont Ventoux he got immortalized for dying after filling his body with drugs and yet EPO demonized lance, smh

jonafari iglesias He raced with Lance in his comeback Tour, and even Lance himself still claims he didn't dope at that time (even though there is some evidence he did blood transfusions on some stages of the Tour). Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that the sport was generally cleaner in those years (2009/10) compared to the 90's and early 2000's.
@stevefm
@stevefm 9 жыл бұрын
jonafari iglesias Well in the 2007 TdF Wiggins own Confidis team-mate Cristian Moreni was caught doping and the team withdrew from the race (difficult to race when you are being questioned by the Police). Wiggins reacted strongly and criticised dopers. He has a strong track background yes but was actually riding in Europe in a pro team as early as 2002. We are now learning that in athletics ATLEAST 1 in 3 medals are won by dopers (abnormal blood tests) so you would think the same is true of track cycling (and all other sports) anyway. It's certainly possible he was clean and unaware of the scale of the problem due to being an irregular Peloton member.

+jonafari iglesias In Christophe Bassons book it was very, very clearly made an open secret that _EVERYONE_ was cheating. If you didn't cheat, you were seen as untrustworthy. I don't think any cycling fan looks at the winner as someone with great cycling skills. They look at him as someone who has great doping skills. So what I propose is that we completely change the interview questions after the races to When did you first realise you had potential to become the best doper in the world? WHo was your doping role model? How many injections do you need to win? Do you always transfuse your own blood or can you mix it in with a few wild beasts to make it more potent? Can you advise up and coming dopers where is the best place to source your EPO etc ?

The only thing Bradley (no "sir", I don't belong to that national cult) should have learned from Lance is that cyclists should avoid talking about doping period. They're all guilty.
@eximusic

@@scooter2163 lol - the last hold out of presuming cycling doping isn't systemic. All of us amateur racers ride training rides with retired pros, coaches, and upcoming TDF racers. There wasn't a competitive USCF cyclist I know that didn't already know that Armstrong was guilty back in 1999. It was just the general public and recreational cyclists that were naive. And every 2nd place TDF winner during Armstrong's years were busted at some point for doping. The times up those TDF climbs rose radically during that EPO, blood doping era - and . . . . get this, they haven't come down to this day. Gee, clean cyclists matching the times of doped cyclists. It's a miracle! Praise Jesus! And Wiggins raced against many of those doped cyclists. You can't keep up with dopers without doping.
@eximusic
@eximusic 3 жыл бұрын
@@scooter2163 I have more than a clue, there was a wealth of information that came out from all of the people who participated in the doping on Lance's team to give really good insights on how it all took place. Sprinters don't win TDFs by the way - impossibility. Yes, the teams selectively pick the people for doping that have the best chances of winning. But on the days 7 riders from USPS led Armstrong up one of the hardest climbs in the TDF, dropping other climbers, all of them were doped. So of the possible TDF winners, if one is doping then all the contenders from all the teams have to in order to have a chance. If testing improves on one drug, like it did for EPO, then they switch to another method (blood doping in the case of EPO crackdown). They have tons of options, and new ones with no tests created yet coming out all of the time. People are working on this day and night. And I can tell you Froome wasn't clean and there's evidence out there for that. And it didn't start with Lance, he walked into an already existing situation at a time when the US teams seemed to be the only ones out of the loop. They weren't winning and found out why.

sainglain I'm a fan of Greg Lemond precisely for this reason, but it's still going to sound like an insult: Greg Lemond wasn't cunning enough to dope. I own the footage of every tour he won and have watched every one at least 6 times, and he's not the most brilliant speaker. If you insist Lemond doped, I'm afraid you're either one of those butthurt ex-fanbois of Lance who hate everyone, or you'll simply make any BS statement to avoid being wrong. And you are. If Lemond somehow doped, I'm convinced he did so without his own knowledge or consent. It would require either a colossal conspiracy, or Lemond is the greatest & most brilliant actor at playing dumb about it.

Brad Wiggins rolls on Shimano wheels. Wayne Stetina is an executive at Shimano. In 1978 Wayne and Bob Cook finished 1 and 2 at the Berkeley Hills race. Cook passed away due to brain cancer. He was said to have been a better rider than Greg LeMond but they never competed against each other so we will never know for sure.

Armstrong is a cheat and a disgusting person. No doubts about it. But Wiggins seems suspicious to me too. He was a track specialist. None of the track cyclists ever made such a successful transition to the road cycling. None came even close to winning a Grand tour. He immediately started climbing very well that was surprising. So, it's great if he is clean. But I won't be surprised if we hear unpleasant news about him in the future.

Doping doesnt make Armstrong any worse of an athlete if we are talking about the tour. Everybody doped at the top, it's unfair towards the small teams, but the best of the best wouldnt be in them anyway. He was the best rider of his time that's it. Elite level pro cyclists represent a massive investment to the team that they are contracted to.......the vast amounts of money involved in the sport is always going to be the motivation to find gains wherever they can be found. Doping is ever present.....TUI's are commonplace. At the time of Lance Armstrong's TDF victories, every single competitor was using PED's......there is no exception, every team had their own program & if you did not agree to it, you would not get a contract. Lance was exceptional & he competed in the TDF on a level playing field. He knows, as does everyone involved then & to this day that his TDF wins still stand, regardless of what the official records show.

I believe I could have reached the Tour if I did not join another commitment. People will still love cyclist and watch it without doping. It's not about the times but about the sport itself. to comments, I do not agree everyone dopes. cycling, road racing is the hardest sport full stop. When I road raced 1986-1990 (UK) no one I knew doped - it wasn't even known in amateur circles at all. I was part of a break that rode the fastest road race in the UK in 1989 and was a 3rd cat at that. Still didn't get a point as I was 7th out of 8 that broke away. It takes true balls to try your best and win, 1000's hours of training and sacrifice - Lance was simply a cheat and should not be allowed to enter any race, any level, any time. - full on twat - Brad proved himself years before he turned to road racing and well proud he finished off TOP in Rio - my thoughts

If you read the Reasoned Decision, it was something like 30 out of the top 33 riders in the 2000 Tour De France who tested postitive for some kinds of drugs. I feel bad for those three clean riders, they're playing against a very stacked deck. That's not a culture you can eradicate easily. It's probably going to take decades if at all.

Don't pick out the parts of a reply that suits you, what I was saying is that the tour has got shorter as the years have gone by so the average speeds will obviously be higher. 2000 distance 3662km..... 2005 distance 3600km..........2012 distance 3404km. (200km shorter about a full stage less) You also have to take into account number of mountain top finishes , number of hilly or flat stages, the weather conditions wind strength and wind direction , all will affect speed...... complicated.

Put yourself in his shoes, just for a few minutes. You're competing at the highest level, you're representing the USA, lots of pressure, you live to ride, the fans love you, you get cancer, you beat cancer, you get back on the horse and start riding again, you lied about taking epo multiple times. Now take a step back, and wonder why he did what he did, regardless of whether he is a piece of shit or not, the dude was an amazing athlete drugs or not that takes a lot of determination and training to compete at that level. He is not the only one, just a major one that got caught, the fans made him and destroyed him at the same time. Where the fuck is the loyalty in that. Anyways, don't really care about him taking the drugs personally, and his lie to me was for the greater good for not only his career, but for the fans. You'd have to be him to fully understand that.

Steven Picanso When you think of all the hours and hours of training rides to be in that physical condition. Climbing the Alps mountains in training for The Tour. I respect someone who works that hard. Seems such a big waste! These guys don't make the big money that some 7' guy makes shooting a three pointer or some fat 38 year old DH who can't run to first base. I enjoyed watching the good times and so did the USA. It hurts me to see that cycling has such a negative view on cyclists that are clean... No doubt you'll get the people commenting about how "they know for sure that all top cyclists dope because its impossible for real hard work to pay off"... If you look at all the anti-doping barriers Team SKY have in place there is no way that Wiggins would have been doping. Looking in 2011 when Chris Froome's coach Bobby Julich was dismissed for doping some 20 years ago so he would not affect the team, and last year when Justin Tiernan-Locke was dismissed for missing out on his biological passport a couple of times... Cycling is entering a much cleaner era and people need to accept that
