Lore-wise, they are obsessed with seeking knowledge and artifacts, because, in their eyes, literally everything can help them to find info on the unknown primarch (which is probably Magnus).

To be fair combat patrol game format exist where you dont put an army its combat patrol vs combat patrol , but yes 40k is expensive for no reason i agree but also many people get into this just to paint cool miniatures not to play in this case if you are not concerned with making 1,2,3k army size the cost is not that strict

@@randomdude2546Combat Patrol is unfortunately not very balanced, it might work for some factions but for most, there will be one faction which is just naturally better. If you want small skirmish combat, you should try out Killteam, where one team costs you ~30 - 60€

Re: Custodes: A single Sisters of Silence box comes with enough spare weapons in it to make 15 sisters, 5 of each weapon. So just buy a box of Sororitas Battle Sisters and kitbash the weapons and heads and shoulderpads and whatnot, mixing a few kitbashed Sisters with a few 'pure' Sisters of Silence to make full squads. A Battle Sister box only costs $2.50 more than an SoS box, and comes with 5 more bodies. Re: Death Guard: It's actually possible, if a bit of a pain in the ass, to kitbash the Poxwalker legs and backs with the spare Plague Marine bits to make a full squad of 10 rather than the jank squad of 7. Points need a bit of a rejig with 10 less poxwalkers, but still eminently doable. Re: Drukhari: It's a classic, but take the guys off of the boats and just use them as extra bodies for your squads. A few guys here and there adds up over a bunch of boats.

Can confirm I made 10 plague Marines, instead of 7, doing exactly this. some bashing, bending and clipping is needed. but cover up the seems with small chains or SprueGlue and it fits perfectly

For me, it was back when the Necrons got their first full Codex (as opposed to merely an article in "Chapter Approved"). 3rd edition. Built and painted some stuff of my own, but got a lot 2nd hand. I was very young, and I am, to this day, _not_ a good painter; which was part of why I went Necrons. They seemed the least complex to paint. I still have most of my old army, including my old Monolith (came with that big 2nd hand batch), though it's starting to fall apart.

Just a note for anyone looking at this to start a TSons army. a box of rubrics only has 1 staff, 1 icon of flame, and 1 soul reaper cannon so you'll have to do a little bit of kit bashing. Exalted sorcerer box has 6 sets of arms so you can make a rubric into another aspiring sorcerer (or just proxy an exalted sorcerer on foot as an aspiring sorcerer) With a little bit of green stuff you can take one of the extra staff heads to make a 2nd icon of flame. Unfortunately there's no way to get a 2nd soul reaper unless you equip your SoTs with a heavy flamer or just a combi-bolter. So just make the 2nd squad all flamers. Otherwise this is a fantastic starting point for TSons.

A lot of 3d print models are great, especially from Station Forge, and it is a fraction of the cost of buying GW plastic. The issue is the places you play, a lot of the 40k community aren't okay with 3rd party models, there's definitely some elitism and gatekeeping, and many stores don't allow printed miniatures. There's very much a sentiment of spending a lot of money is the point.

For bolt action, around £125 is what you need for a full army, for starwars legion about the same, for age of sigmar you can get a full army quite easily for less then £500. If you want to do T'au, if you can find the old Combat Patrol it's a great option even alongside the new Combat Patrol. If you get both plus some crisis suits you should be pretty close to 1k points, at about $400.

For Sisters I'd probably go for something like 2 Combat Patrols, Novitiates and an Immolator. Convert the second Canoness into a Hospitaller (using Novitiate arm parts) to join the 10 Sacresants, run one squad of Battle Sisters on home objective, one of Dominions split by Immolator. Would cost around USD$485.

When it comes to Death Guard, the way I made the Plague Marine set less painful is using the Biologis Putrifier (with some converting) as my 15th Plague Marine. It results in your only character being Typhus for the time being, but having 3 units of 5 / a 10 and a 5 is a solid way to get around GWs weird box count.

Beloved World eaters, while I am sure Auspex meant no harm, it is very ill-advisable to take 20 zerks without two rhinos and any leaders. For any case, always buy a master of executions and a rhino. If you want to field all Combat Patrol Zerks, get Kharne and a second Rhino. If you want to get some heavy hitters, get some boxes like eightbound, build at least one of each type as Auspex described. If you seek for a budget option for 1k, get wardogs. But please, if you want to field all 20 zerks, get them leaders and rhinos. Quick edit - you can get both MoE and Kharn and use them to lead 5+5 zerks and put both in a rhino.

I haven't built it yet but I have 3x10 zerks each lead by a MoE all in (deimos pattern with 3d printed World Eaters doors) rhinos, Angry Ron, Kharn and 12 eightbound that I haven't decided how to build yet. That's definitely more than 1k points but I wanted some wiggle room for trying different lists. Any suggestions on what to add to knock it up to 2k?

yes I wasn't really trying to imply it was a good idea in an optimised list - most of these are aimed to be sort of 'building slowly in the general direction of competitive' examples. The world eaters didn't leave a ton of points left over after the initial combat patrol and I figured prioritising a unit of each eightbound variant might initially be better. Would fully agree that with character support and in rhinos is how I'd ideally want to use the Berzerkers.

In the end it’s actually a decent way to get into world eaters and there’s nothing there that’s actually useless. Still zerks without leads and 10 dudes without rhino are gonna suck since a stiff breeze will kill them and you gotta slug them across the board.

As an aside to anyone thinking about 40k right now. It may or may not be worth waiting till Christmas. The end of the year box sets usually have some decent contents for the price. That being said your army of choice isn't guaranteed to get a box set, unless you're space marines. My starter army is the contents of veterans of the long war plus Vashtorr, knight abominant, Cypher, warp talons, and waiting on my warpforged: obliterators plus venom crawler to round out exactly 2000 points got my codex and data sheet cards and the leviathan book for core rules. Still got quite a bit of painting to do but Vashtorr and the knight abominant are done painted.

For most of The Imperium armies you could get 2 pigeons 1 stone. With the knights and new rules from IA codex. 1 box of warglaives ( 300 points) 1 paladin brotherhood of terminators GK (210 requisite unit ) + ANY imperium combat patrol…..and nothing more needed (in some cases you have more points than 1000)

I think, first Ill finish my Astra militarum combat patrol box, a primaris psyker and a heawy weapon squad box, than Ill print and build the papercraft wehicles, after that Ill fullfill the remained bits with 3D printed parts to two shock troop squad and three special weapon team, four heawy weapon squad and two field ordenance battery unit. Its a shame that there is too many bits in the boxes not to use. Cadia will break before the guard will, but Cadia stands!

For Thousand Sons and Dark Angels Thousand sons: i would take Ahriman immidiatley, even at the cost of not using one of the 3 sorcerers, casting doombolt two times (one free thanks to Ahriman once per battle) a the same time in a 1000 points can give you victory Dark Angels: 2 deathwing knights, azrael, 1 x10 hellblasters, 2 x5 infiltrators. Deploy immidiately one of the two knights to shield the hellblasters; no matter what your opponent tries he will never get rid of the knights and you'll keep firing with the hellblasters and farming points with infiltrators

Handy advice for anyone getting Into Tsons. It's easy to take the robed legs (just have to kutnof the back of the torso) from the Exalted sorcerors kit and use a leftover torso from the terminator kit to make a sorceror in terminator armour

I have to slightly disagree on that Deathwatch squad composition. Melee focused squads are really good, so just max out thunder hammers, shields+Power Weapon (for additional protection), and Xenophase and then slap them into a Rhino, and you have an extremely effective blender unit.

This is a really cool video. I just got my ultramarines and Tyranids to 2000 with the Leviathan and Starter set. The Space Marines could swap a jump intercessor for assault intercessor for some battle line. The T-fex and exocrine for Tyranids is scary at 1000. The hive tyrant can also get a 3D print body and get a winged version to add a jump to 2000 points.

It's amazing how large 40k armies have gotten. I recently got back in and pointed up my old 2e/3e armies and they are absolutely tiny. A tactical squad in 2e was 300 points before any wargear, now you get intercessors for 160.

in 3rd/4th my old 1k tau army had 30 fire warriors.....or Strike Team now.... 300pts for 30 models with just pulse rifles. Now, that same 30 models is 225, with 2 drones per squad, with suppression, and a missile turret per squad. Even had 2 65pt crisis suits with plasma, missile and tracker, but now you get 3 crisis fireknife for 130pts. going by those examples only, everything is about a third cheaper

Fun fact, Stormboyz boxes don't include power klaws so you have to bash one on from a different kit which can be difficult because you usually want to build with a power klaw if you have one.

For the first list you can always go spearhead to get lone op on one of the terminator characters. A lone op with deep strike is huge for secondaries.

I get them putting the price up once all the other online places are sold out - don't like it but it makes business sense - I don't understand why they wouldn't offer at least some discount over GW prices tho. As far as I can see the only reason you'd buy the box from them rather than GW right now is for the crystals (store credit)?

The Ork Combat Patrol + the Stompa Boyz (My local WH40k shop, still got one at €172) seems like quite a nice way to get to 2k pretty easily, should just add Ghazgkull Drakka and pretty much set for my secondary army with Ork ... Necrons: Hypercrypt Legion and add a Szeras for lone op. Literally that's your 1000pt army. You get an overlord with Trans Shroud to move the Lychguard, a Void Dragon because its a freakin Void Dragon, and Szeras can do funny stuff giving OC1 to scarabs from 3" behind cover while nuking a character from 36" away...

Personally, for 1000 points armies based on the Combat Patrol boxes plus additions, here Husband has made a 1000 points army for Lovely Wife. It consists of the following: Gladius Task Force. 1x Terminator Captain (storm bolter, relic blade, Warlord, The Honour Vehement), 1x Terminator Librarian (storm bolter, force axe), 1x Lieutenant (bolter/bolt rifle, heavy bolt pistol, power fist, Fire Discipline) 1x5 Intercessors (5x bolt rifles, Astartes grenade launcher, power sword for the Sergeant), 1x5 Hellblasters (plasma pistol on the Sergeant), 1x5 Infernus Marines, 1x5 Sternguard Veterans (5x Sternguard bolt rifles, power sword on the Sergeant), 1x5 Terminators (easy to build squad), 1x5 Terminators (5x power fists, assault cannon). For a total of 995 points. The idea is that the Lt joins the Sternguard to make them even more dangerous, and the Terminators go do whatever Lovely Wife wants them to do. She is scarily good at getting the most out of what she calls "Cow-minators" (because of the helmet). The current OpFor for the Marines above? A Tyranids Invasion Fleet. 1x Winged Tyranid Prime (Warlord, Perfectly Adapted), 2x20 Termagants with Fleshborers, 1x5 Barbgaunts, 2x3 Von Ryan's Leapers, 1x3 melee Warriors, 2x2 Ripper Swarms, 2x1 Psychophage, 1x Carnifex "OG/Discount Screamer-Killer" (2x scything talons, bio-plasma, spine banks).Total points: 995. This army is literally just the Tyranids contents of the Starter Set, and Ultimate Starter Set, with a box of Warriors, and a single Carnifex added.

You have some anti-synergy there with your Lt and Sternguard. Sterns have easy access to devastating wounds but you can't get them if you scored a lethal hit because of your Lt .

The Lieutenant has the Fire Discipline enhancement for the exploding 6s on the to hit. Those additional hit dice aren't affected by Lethal Hits, but have to be rolled to see if they wound. At least if I remember correctly re: the FAQ and Errata documents.

The deathguard combat patrol poxwalker sprues all come with half of a plague marine, with all the extra pieces you get in the plague marine sprue, you can easily have 10 plague marines out of your Combat Patrol, with just a lil bit of hobby work.

I am really happy with my Dark Angels so far. The old Combat patrol was nice, I love the Redemptor Dread. The Deathing Knights are awesome and the characters have style. Only the Innercircle Companions are really stupid expensive....but they are great models

While they're a new army I don't know a lot about, I am highly intrigued by the Imperial Agents list here, and the proposed upgrades. Deathwatch, Grey Knights, Inquisitors, Rogue Traders, and Canis Rex all in one army sounds like great fun. Can anyone provide any insights?

Since getting in to Sisters, so far I have 1260 points, got the 2021 Combat Patrol with a separate box of a Sisters Squad which I built Dominion as well as Celestine, Morvenn Vahl, Paragon suits and a Palatine but at this point I don't know what way to lean in to.

You could save $60 on the Imperial Agents list if you spend $336 on Grey Knights, since their second combat patrol has a spare Termi squad. That's nearly -$300 in savings!

For marines I run salamanders. I cant help but run Hellblasters though, i love the idea of plasma. I probably could just do a more tanky melee army. Then I have necrons. Most of my army is 3rd edition. So swarms of necron warriors with some support was thw plan.(60 warriors, reanimation stuff, some support, is the way)

Built my mechanicus army for less than 500. I think it only cost me low 400ish dollars. However, I didn't pick up either dunecrawler or the dunerider or the ironstriders. I went heavy infantry instead, got kastelan robots, and Belisarius Cawl because he's awesome. I essentially made a 1700s firing line army with cavalry lol

One good reason to bring Morty in a 1k list is pair him with a lord of contagion with deathly pathogen on him, and 6 deathshroud. Get Morty to be a big bullet sponge on no mans land and and rapid ingress the loc and deathshroud on whatever enemy unit is causing the most problems or you feel the NEED to kill, and literally incinerate them. If they’re within 6” of Morty you can give them benefit of cover to ensure maximum chance of survival in case of like another dreadnought or termis around then still and deathly pathogen gives the loc +2 attacks and strength if within range of an infected objective which Morty will be holding. Kind of dependent on the enemy being relatively close, but is basically an alt+f4 on anything less then an imperial or chaos knight. Could bring typhus in place of loc but I prefer loc in this combo for the higher dmg potential with deathly pathogen + the reroll melee hit rolls for all the deathshroud and himself His melee is equivalent with typhus with deathly pathogen’s baseline +1 atk and str

my 1000 point dark angels army is: 1x jump pack captian 2x5 intercessors 2x5 hellblasters 1x5 deathwing terminators 1x5 jump pack intercessors 1x5 incursors 1x brutalis dreadnought ( though it could be swapped with a gladiator. ) ive got a repulsor too, was thinking of swapping out the intercessors with assault intercessors ( for flavor ) and brutalis dread with repulsor.
