Well all tanks are pretty much "equal" in the defense departement... at least for single target. WAR however is a different beast altogheter when it comes to dungeons... I'm mostly dissapointed in GNB, they are both significantly weaker in dungeons and their DMG ain't nearly making up for it...

@@magnuscarlsson9969 are you saving HoC for >50%hp? Try this: Start with popping with popping your standard defensive CD, when >50%hp pop HoC, when that procs pop Aurora. Works well for prolonged dungeon trash pulls. If heals is struggling at that point, trust me it isn't you.

@@jayr5mitty351 Well I've just done the 90 content with PLD, SCH, WHM so far... so my perspective is mostly from that as a healer. Which mean I come across quite alot of tanks both good and bad. However it's only when i end up with GNB I'm starting to get worried because the skillcap seem alot higher for no good reason... Tanks are rather sturdy still, but GNB is that one tank i might end up in a position to spam my hard casts with. My GNB job is only 83, so have only really done the first two Endwalker dungeons as that job(my other tank jobs are PLD(90), DRK(87), WAR(87)) it and the difference in personal survivability is immense, so much so I kinda keft it behind while I planned to level all tanks togheter(gear share). I have so far not have any real struggles playing GNB but it sort of feels like i punish people picking GNB over any of the other three.

One of my FC mates called sage "the worst healer" and said it should be deleted from the game literally a couple of days ago(no one bothered arguing with them, because what's the point of arguing an opinion that isn't based in objective reality). My main healer went from AST to SCH after endwalker. Astro isn't bad, granted, but the new snappier scholar feels so damn good. That said, Astro is hilariously impossible to drain of MP. If you're drawing and playing cards it would take multiple Raises plus drifting Lucid to drop you below even 7k.

Even before EW dropped, WAR was broken. I got myself into one of the HW dungeons (optional dungeon IIRC) and it was my first time there. The rest of the party wiped except the tank (WAR), I think he solo'd that boss from 30% down to 0% without a freaking healer.

Before there was urgency and intention in fitting your high damage ogcds and bahamut phase into your buff window, real risk and reward in moving around with a summon out, requires paying attention with your dot timers and reapplying properly. The class had soul. Now you don't have to pay attention to anything, there's no punishment to falling off your rotation since your summons just reset every minute and there's no dot upkeep to mess up your globals if you fail to keep your dots up. There's a fine line between unnecessarily busy and unnecessarily boring, and SMN wasn't unnecessarily busy. What would you shed off of old summoner? Pretty much every ability in its kit except for physick had some sort of application, whether in raid or dungeon. The summoner we have now is so simple it's boring. Even if they gave it a dot or another ogcd or primal special it would feel like a finished class, but as it is now it just feels broken and unintentionally made, ESPECIALLY the jank in its kit at lower levels (I mean aethercharge? Really?) And what would you remove from rdm and blm's kit? Make rdm's melee combo a single button? A good class does have situational buttons, just look at PLD, imo one of the best designed classes in the game

@@VForceWave you're talking to someone that strives for perfection in Every job(minus dnc) so I do appreciate a high skill ceiling but again, what is the point if after all that management that you listed off, you're still doing barely more dps than rdm and barely less dps than a blm while the former and latter are much more simplified. Blm for example: VERY simple job.. on paper. But the skill levels stems solely from you and you alone, not having to press 20 buttons to practically do the same damage a single Fire 4(obvious exaggeration). ALL of the caster jobs are honestly boring while leveling and doing dungeon runs on repeat but take those same boring jobs into savage content while striving to place 1st in overall dps and it will not be. I can tell you from experience that all of these ppl crying that Nin is severely underpowered is entirely false when I myself have out dps'd practically every job as one. The hilarious thing is Bard's Repertoire system got completely changed so that their DoTs are completely unnecessary except for on bosses for that very slight DPS output. Should have instead mentioned that we all creamed our pants when we found out we now get a whole 3 buffs for our burst window (Raging Strikes, Battle Voice, Radiant Finale, the passive buff from Wanderers if you wanna be super anal) Like they gave Apex Arrow a combo GCD that actually makes it feel like it fits into the kit now and managed to make the DoTs the outliers. I'm not even mad about that, that's just funny.

Ye its a bit annoying.. RDM always been the preferred caster since its only competiting with SMN and BLM, and SMN is as mr chair said, filling the same roll as RDM but worse in every regard, fewer instaress, worse heal, worse raid buff(3% over 30s vs 5 over 20s might seem even but since almost all burst windows are between 15-20 range, embolden is more efficient) and smn also got no raid mit. Legit no reason to pick a SMN over RDM So RDM is only really competing with BLM atm and BLM has to basically play perfect to be better than RDM in desirability. ( able to ress the healers is more valued than 1-2% more dmg since ressing both healers means preventing a wipe). Not that you need to know any of this obviously... :)

My friend MT as war while I off as gnb. Only reason for it is so I can heart her and aurora her with brutal shell the entire fight. She shirks me and I super the big hits as needed and mainly pick up as needed for swaps. I've always felt this was the best way to work together since she mains war. Anatman and Six-sided star. From what I've seen about the rotations and my little own experience this expac, you almost never use those abilities. Six sided star puts everything on a long cooldown, only really useful if the boss is about to go into an untargetable phase and you need to avoid aoe. Anatman is similar too with even less usage, but you need to stay in place to keep the buff.

TBN loses out to Bloodwhetting in terms of raw survivability single target and is HOPELESSLY outclassed in AoE, and loses out to Holmgang in terms of tools used to actually handle relevant content. TBN is overrated, has been power crept, and comes at the cost of a DPS resource if you're unable to break the shield. DRK is the squishiest tank currently, and they have paid their TBN tax in full. Please buff DRK survivability.

TBN+Oblation (or any other mitigation) is still the best tool a tank has to raise their effective HP in a pinch. It’s just that every other tank got some crazy sustain ability, while DRK didn’t. If DRK did the most damage, had the best personal mitigation in the game, AND could sustain itself there would be no reason to play any other tank. Even now you can full heal yourself with abyssal drain in a trash pack

@@nicky7685 That's not true. Heart of Corundum is similar if not better to TBN at panic mitigation, and GNB has many other tools it could combine with that. Thrill of Battle + Equilibrium is like a 40% hp refund, plus a healing received buff, plus a moderate heal over time. There was a huge jump in tank survivability in EW and DRK was confusingly left out.

I mean, Warrior is quite clearly the best "tank". A tanks job is to take a lot of damage and Warrior can take the most damage while also being almost self sufficient. I'm a healer main and from my perspective Warrior is easily the best at doing their job.

PLD is pretty absurd in dungeon considered we had at least 3 instances where it soloed a boss when healer died quite early lol AST actually is way too busy now for my little brain. Raiding as Noct AST the past few years made me not appreciate the new one. And for RDM, it’s like the must have this time around having SGE+WHM for prog this coming tier for recovery XD sadly SMN is at a strange spot rn just cuz there are other options

Smn is beaten by RDM is versatility and dmg. So one picks rdm for prog and BLM for farm. Smn needs to do more dmg over RDM since RDM brings so much to the Caster table now.

As a 2.0 SCH main who has since switched to Sage I kind of agree with their fun evaluation haha. I'm always comparing Scholar's damage to ARR and HW, and I miss manual Embrace. But Sage is new so I have no previous kit to compare to (aside from SCH I guess), so having even a little more to do than I did in ShB feels good. Kardia also reminds me of manual Embrace and I like having that little healing mini game while dealing damage. Also even if the fairy is more responsive now it's kind of nice to never have to worry about it. It's not like I can summon Selene anymore anyways

I feel like making my own tier list now. In terms of personal bias, I choose White Mage for the same reason as I choose Dragoon- because of FFIV. Turns out I actually *like* healing and am too smooth brain to prevent damage like the actually good Scholars out there. I feel like, if I was Sage, it would be too busy going pew pew to pay attention to people until it was too late and I was surprise tank. I like Paladin because it builds mitigating abilities (ahelltron/ holy Shelltron) quickly, it can cast magic and heal. I like Red Mage because it is flashy, mobile and able to rez party members on the quick. I am torn between Dancer and Bard because Dancer is too fun to play and has all the support skills I like seeing in play. It stole Bard's thunder so hard last expansion, I only continued with it because it was my first DPS to max level in Stormblood and I can play music. This expansion it is no longer beholden to DOTs and is in a very nice place for personal DPS. My Warrior friend is going to have fun this expansion because they are nearly unkillable. This tier list is garbage because of how vague it is. I expect lots of people to play Paladin this expansion - it is literally the games poster child. Being good at it is a different thing entirely. Being "simple to play" may make it difficult to master. As for Reaper and Sage, there is still a 50/50 chance they tank the floor because they don't know wtf they're doing. Rant compete. You're welcome for my unsolicited opinions.

War is a bad tank? Ok!!! Healers are bored. "I guess I'll just throw a random regen or shield on you." A sage I played with was like, "WTF? Am I needed?" And on the last boss of a dungeon, they died. I continued with the DPS to kill the boss and healed the rest of the party. Warrior is so fucking broken.

I was in a situation where everyone was fresh to the final MSQ EW dungeon, everyone wiped at the final boss at around 42%... Except me, the WAR. Got it down to 35% before I choked. It's was wasteful and I should've just accepted that we wiped, but it's a battle-high I'll never be able to achieve ever again in this game. Broken as all hell, but MAN is it ever enjoyable to singlehandedly heal up from a Tankbuster.

This article is bad but the ranking of pld is good but not for the reasons in the article. To be able to have even more flex and not suck as a main tank anymore pld got all it needed from expansion worthy content. Blade combo is really good, req and atonement stacks being 30s is really really strong especially for optimization. While other tanks have glaring issues (relatively speaking) pld just has the problem of less CDs but nothing a tank swap, which should be normalized, or a mitigation macro can't fix.

Lol And as much as I love PAL to the point I mained it for literally a year, but even I wouldn't call it the number one tank. I just have saved way too many near-wipes with the heal or Cover.
