One Axis goes hand in hand with arcs but there's more to it! Do you use an animation checklist when animating?

hi Jean-Denis, great video! really interesting :) did you do a video about animation checklist before or are you planning to do it in the future?
@jeandenishaas4 жыл бұрын
Matteo Bgn Thanks! What do you mean specifically? This series is the checklist. Or do you mean the why having a checklist or how to go about it?
@matteobgn62054 жыл бұрын
@@jeandenishaas thanks for the reply. I'm sorry I wasn't clear enough, I meant an animation checklist where you have all the things you need to cover and follow in order to do a shot completely, kinda like the list of the animation principles but more in specific. I heard some animators have a written checklist they use at work in order to cover everything and not forget something. I think you are covering all those things in these videos anyway :D
@jeandenishaas4 жыл бұрын
Matteo Bgn Ah got it! I don’t have one pinned to my monitor or anything but because I teach so many classes I constantly have my own lectures in my head HAHAHA! After all those years the checklist is pretty much second nature and in my head but of course I still struggle to make it all look good. 😁
@matteobgn62054 жыл бұрын
@@jeandenishaas yes I supposed :D ahahah I was sure that that checklist is only for beginners, because, as you said, after a while it is so clear in your mind that you don't need it anymore :) thanks for the message and for the videos, I really like them, can't wait for the next one :D have a great day!! :)

This makes animation analysis so fun and especially enhances the experience of watching animation in general. I especially like the example at 3:20, it was like a really good 2D animation coming to life (I feel like Alexis might have some good training in 2D animation but I don't know. She probably had some really good boarding and planning). I don't know much about what animators are doing nowadays and what school programs they go into. I'm trying to train myself and have been mostly doing stuff for my own games that I'm making. I feel like I'm usually more into the gaming side but I've always wanted to be a film-maker. These videos should be recommended for people trying to learn.

Off topic: I really want you to cover this slight camera shake (3:40 and 4:28) in your "camera for animation" series (if you are doing it). It looks so easy to me, but it never looks natural when i do it.

For the shot of the girl at the beach, it can also be argued that curved path of her walk back can be attributed to being disoriented by the cold water. At least that's what I thought. Great videos btw!

I am learning something new here everyday! :) When doing a head nod, do we incorporate movement along various axes at the same time or do we do it one by one like a layered approach?
@jeandenishaas4 жыл бұрын
Harshal Ashar Glad you’re learning! 😁 Whatever works best for you. Layered is nice because you go step by step. Sometimes I do it at the same time when it can be tougher and when I have less time.

When it comes to animating Hips I often will just approach it axis by axis, often seeing rotation X, Y, Z as more separate from each other. I'm curious how you and others approach doing hips, in more realistic animation should they usually be approached in a multiaxis way? Would love to hear from anyone!
@jeandenishaas4 жыл бұрын
Can’t speak for other people but I have the same multi axis approach, all depends on the pose and movement of course.

@@kushalanimation5452 You don’t need a clean graph (except at the blocking stage so you can make quick changes). You can zoom into the curves and make lots of small changes. The animation needs to look good, so don’t worry too much about your curves.
