I know it’s only the preseason , but the Flames leading the league with a 4-0-1 record , and +14 goal differential (25gf 11ga) , isn’t too shabby. Conroy might actually be pulling off one of the greatest re-tools ever without having to tear it down ... which is saying a lot considering the amount of talent that has jumped ship in the past 2 years.

All fans love winning, that’s why teams play, but no one in Calgary is happy with the 10th to 14th pick year after year. The Flames don’t have to win to entertain. They have to be gritty. Not lying it would help to beat the Oilers in the season series. But as for the day to day, I watch and love hard hitting hockey. Win, lose, draw, just try, and give it sixty minutes of effort; That’s the players job, Huska’s job. Changing out the horses to finish in the bottom 3 for the next two years. Get that number one center, get the top line right wing, and second line center; and get two fast skating 6’8” murderous D … ok that might be too much to hope for. Then go and compete for the next decade. That’s why Conny is there, Go Flames Go! Craig, I would write Santa, but I’m to old for that; can I just ask you to burn it to the ground, then dig down to bed rock?

At this point they may as well sell off what they can at the deadline and eat half of huberdeau's contract, they got some solid pieces in wolf, Coronato, zary, honzek and Parekh but need more young high end picks

2 more years of tank. Then play the crap out of the kids and the new acquisitions year 3-4. Then sign the necessary free agents in the following couple of years and you'll hopefully have that contender right when some of the big money contracts expire or are easier to move out.

tanking for one player when franchise players is not every year is insanely dumb helps a bit but having great scouts and luck makes more sense to me edmonton had 4 first rounders so then why are they not a dynasty team already and buffalo well ummm..... ya

there is no such thing as a "rebuild", you are either competetive, or not. if you are not, you need to get there. and most of that is based on luck.

you also need to have a location players want to go to, perhaps warm? taxes? city life? family friendly? kid friendly? which make a huge different. is calgary that?

Say that to every single cup winner in the past decades how their rebuilds worked for them. It's not luck when you're picking a top 3 player in multiple drafts.

The flames are still talking about being competitive. So the team is not going to try to tank. The tanking will occur if or as Conny dumps veterans. So we shall see. Right now it looks like the season will start with a hybrid group of vets and some younger. Trade deadline will be telling

What a terrible take. The kind of rebuild you're suggesting won't make them competitive in 2027, it would make them competitive in 2037 if they're lucky.
