I really love how you get such an early start. You catch some great stuff without all the hubbub. And being that I live in a small town (less than 2 miles across) in the very north of Massachusetts, you inspire me to get compositions that aren't Shinjuku Station. (Yes, I watch a lot of photo walk videos.)

Thanks Chris, I do love an early start - something about the mood in combination with the type of light. It's funny you should mention Shinjuku station, as Tokyo is my next video, but I literally had no keepers from my walk around that station!

Love it, beautiful locations you have there! Any chance you would show some alternative film simulations? I'm using classic chrome on my x100vi but now am considering playing around a bit with the raw conversion. I wonder how locations with light like this would look with Reala Ace with chrome: strong, chrome fx blue: strong and DR400. I like it a lot, especially when blue sky is in the shot.

Which camera do you like better?

what are your autofocus settings? I am struggling with this on the x100vi and ricoh
@po.ntandshoot9 ай бұрын
For moving subjects (majority of my photos), I keep it on continuous focus mode with wide tracking + single point focus (locking on to desired subject). I change to single focus mode for architecture etc.

If you could only have one, which would you choose?
@po.ntandshoot9 ай бұрын
If I had to? X100. Powerful and reliable, plus I can't be without a 35mm. The GR is the better EDC though.
@tobiahtayo51499 ай бұрын
Do you find enough of a difference to really justify both? I have the VI but have been slightly interested by the GR
@po.ntandshoot9 ай бұрын
Good question. Both are most definitely a luxury, but the more I use the X100vi, the more I find the GR unique. It's a pure everyday carry, so it will gobble up any occasion with family / friends / work where I wouldn't bother fretting over an X series.
@404michaelnotfound3 ай бұрын
Good photographic eye. I just bought the GRIIIX, but coming from Fujifilm, i am still trying to find out if I have made the right decision choosing the GR over the X100VI. I think the Fuji is more like a mechanical photography tool, while the GR is a small, premium non- intrusive point and shoot camera. The photographer in me still longs for the Fuji, but my GR is pocketable, and thats the reason I went for that in the first place. Maybe one day I can try both... How does this street photography work. Do you ask the people you photographed if its ok to use the photos, or only if you get some social interaction with them ?
@po.ntandshoot3 ай бұрын
Cheers. They are 2 very different cameras, so it's not the fairest comparison. Sounds like the reason you chose the GR makes logical sense, and it's why I haven't considered selling mine (which can't be said for the X100VI). Regarding permission, I only ever really ask if we make eye contact / acknowledge eachother before or after taking the shot. Public space is for all, and luckily you can't be reprimanded in the UK for documenting it.

How to choose between griii and griiix?
@po.ntandshoot9 ай бұрын
If you like the option of isolation / portraits, then definitely go for the X!
@classicnickpics4659 ай бұрын
Some lovely shots here. So are all the GRiiix shots SOOC jpegs in negative film…no post production? Great either way, just curious as I’m considering the camera myself. Thanks
@jacky_fisher9 ай бұрын
Should be in Positive Film.. Not sure if there are any post-production adjustments..
@po.ntandshoot9 ай бұрын
I do some very minor tweaks of the existing Ricoh simulations in lightroom (negative film and positive film are my favourites). For a day's shooting, I'd typically make 3 versions of the same preset with slightly different exposure levels to account for time of day / location etc.
