@RonScibilia5 жыл бұрын
Very well done. The edge the GR III has is stealth which to me is essential for street/candid photography. The GR III combines the invisibility of the smartphone with the horsepower of a serious camera. I am saying this based on what I've seen from the III on KZbin; I have had a GR II for several years, and it is go-to camera for "the street."

wouldn't mind a quick compare with Fuji XF10... I know GRIII fans might say GRIII is in performance class with X100F... but, X100F is not a pocket-able point and shoot...
@snoooozer5 жыл бұрын
My 2 cents: I own the x100F and also have had the XF10 for a couple of months. I wanted something pocketable, but the price of the Ricoh was a bit much for what would be my secondary camera, so I got the XF10. The only downside for me is the autofocus. It's not nearly as bad as some make it out to be, but it's not great. If you've ever used the original x100, it's in that general realm. I still have my old x100 on the shelf and I dusted it off to compare. The XF10 easily beats it in speed, but like the x100, it occasionally gets lost in low-light situations. I've never used an X100S, but i'd imagine the XF10 is similar to that in terms of autofocus speed. IMO if you want a reasonably priced pocket camera, and aren't super concerned about ultra-fast focusing, it's great.
@benficaM88885 жыл бұрын
I think XF10 actually has a slightly better low light performance and image quality, better battery, has a built-in flash. But that slow autofocus in XF10 is no joke. It is absolutely horrendous, and it's less pocketable compared to GR

Lovely work (as always). Your photos are consistently stunning! I see why you own them both, as each is unique and they deliver some of the best OOC looks available. However, since I can't afford to follow your lead, I'm currently leaning towards the X100F. I just find the Acros simulation so compelling. It always stops me in my tracks whenever I come across great shots (both here and elsewhere) taken with it. Right now, I'm holding out to see if the price on the F drops a bit since the arrival of its successor, the X100V. Spring is around the corner, though, so my trigger finger grows more itchy with each passing day! Finally, would you consider updating this video with a X100V vs GR III comparison? I would certainly find that very useful. Thanks for all the amazing videos. Your channel is always informative and inspirational. Cheers from Vancouver, Canada!

Dear Samuel, Thank you for the very informative and interesting review of the cameras. I appreciated your down to earth practical approach to the review. I especially liked the no voice over on the main section, it enabled me to focus on what I was watching, the handy written prompts helped me understand what features you where comparing. First class job, well done. I have the older GR Digital III which has the amazing f1.9 (28mm for 35mm) lens. Like you, I keep the Ricoh in my pocket at all times. Seriously considering the X100f to compliment the Ricoh. Happy Shooting, David

@boris.dupont5 жыл бұрын
You put a lot into this so thank you! I still think that the WCL interferes somehow with the autofocus and face detection but there's no question in my mind that you went for a fair and honest comparison which I appreciate. The thing about the X100 series is that they're cameras made for photographers. Everything is at the right place and they're inspiring and (at least to people like us) they feel like the essence of photography both technically and emotionally. Ricoh on the other hand obviously suits younger photographers who grew up with smartphones and don't really care about what we feel is lacking here and there and they're right because whatever works is perfectly fine with me. At the end of the day nobody owns the truth it's all about personal preference and both cameras produce spectacular outcomes in a different way. Thanks again Samuel I appreciate what you and your friends do it's very refreshing and positive and precious.

Thanks for this very thoughtout comment! This comparison is just for fun really. I would never think of these cameras as equal tools. Both are amazing image maker but feel very different in the hand. I love the X100F and it gets me emotional shooting with it. And I have big history with the GR so I feel nostalgic using it. So hard to say which one I like more. Thank god I don't have to! :)

Great comparison. I thought there was quite a noticeable difference in image quality, although they were pretty close. The GRIII seemed sharper, and on a couple of shots I thought the X100F ones looked a little bit soft, even. I noticed a little CA in the one of the X100F shots too, but it wouldn't put me off. If I was buying, I'd choose the Ricoh, despite the poorer lowlight AF performance. I'd probably end up using snap focus a lot of the time anyway.
@Klavsash5 жыл бұрын
Samuel, Thank you very much for providing feedback with your experiences with both cameras. Your feedback came across as being very unbiased. I've been shooting street for about two years now and finally reached the point where a Canon DSLR is prohibiting me from getting the shots I want because it is just too large. I have had enough of people staring at me or waving me off. I think I am leaning towards purchasing the GR3. The positives for me are: No need for a wide angle lens unless I want to go wider I can get the wide angle lens (available at a small cost), less conspicuous, the touch screen and cost. You note in your review the X100F has a slightly better AF. This comment somewhat surprised me as I heard other reviews claiming the AF on the X100F to be somewhat slow. Being I shoot mainly in the day, I do not see the slightly slower AF on the GR3 to be a deterrent. The negatives for me are: I heard the X100f will allow you to use your camera as a viewfinder, the GR3 is not as stylish, I have bigger hands and need to test to see if the GR3 may be too small, battery life and it looked as the screen goes black while shooting in burst. None of these negatives are game changers to me. Of course I will need to put the GR3 in the hands to test the feel and the AF. The DSLRs will be available for less in your face type shots. Lastly, the entire AF section was hilarious. Thanks for the laugh and sincere thank yous for taking the time to create this video.

Wow, at 9:22 the Fuji shows really strange color artefacts. This was shot / processed with Noise Reduction in C1 / Lightroom, correct? When looking at the gray floor you see some kind of smeared RGB patter which I find quite disturbing. I have not noticed that with my X-T1 fortunally so far! I think I'll stay away from the X-Trans III sensor...

While they're sitting on the table in front of you, the X100F looks large and loud and the GR just disappears in comparison. That's key to me.

The touchscreen is really nicely implemented in the GRIII, but in terms of usage it's really not at all necessary (I'd say even with it turned off it still handles a bit better than the previous two versions)..... But most importantly as far as battery life is concerned it'd be a more fair comparison to disable it on the GRIII here. Touchscreen are huge power drains and the X100F doesn't have one.
