This is a full sun space. It is in the shade early in the morning and then gets blasted after that. I was concentrating on other things so hard I forgot that basic piece of information.

This format was perfect. It’s a great idea for a series cuz this is what everyone does. The weekend is usually the only time folks have to do landscaping projects. So, it’s helpful to see what can be accomplished in 1 day & how. Then, w/you providing plant education for the different areas, you got the full monty. I hadn’t even heard of the ginger lily, so I learned about an interesting plant I can have in my zone. IMO this is a great idea & I’m really looking forward to the rest of the series!

Thank you for this! It’s wonderful to see one-day-projects happening from beginning to end with everyday tools for a common home owner. It helps with ideas and I love that you are not shy about the pro’s and con’s of the process, in it’s entirety. This video, as usual, was well done, Jim. My personal preference is with time lapse but it certainly does not define whether or not I’ll sit through a video. I find it helpful simply because I’m such a newbie. Haha!

I like this format. It shows us what the work will be like as the project progresses. Time lapse and narration can sometimes give the impression of Oh, this is easy. Let's just zip through the hard parts, say all you need to do is ______, and then show the beautiful result.

Great idea for a series. I've done a lot of weekend projects like this and I picked up a couple of things that will help me move more efficiently this fall with something similar. Agree 100% on an electric tiller being a worthwhile investment for a home gardener. Love mine. Amending a bed or pulling grass out with a shovel is miserable! I think the format is solid. Wouldn't opt for a time lapse over the way you did it. One thing I would maybe do is always emphasize proper planting techniques, which you typically do anyways but it's just so important for people that may only watch this one video. Especially for those like us in the southeast dealing with heavy clay. I started planting all of my shrubs and perennials a little higher after watching your videos and man it's made a difference. Keep these coming!

We just moved from NY to Missouri a little over a year ago and bought our house so now we have lots of space to do projects like this. I have been watching you for a year now and have learned so much! I think this video format was perfect! I am doing the same project as this right now and I’m so happy you showed that you can hide the down spout. I wouldn’t have thought you could do that and it is in the way of bed also. I’m so happy I seen this now at the beginning of my project so I can do the same! Thanks for another great video!!!

Forgot to say, it’s definitely interesting to see spaces transformed. It’s helps motivate and inspire new ideas for my lawn, even though I think it’d take me FOREVER to do what you accomplish alone in a few hours. I feel like your camera work and production and editing are always on point. I suppose for longer chores, a time lapse approach might help see the entire job. But I feel watching this “short” job in the way that you presented it, that you thoroughly captured the important elements required to DIY this perfectly. The downspout situation alone would have prevented many from being able to tackle this chore without your visual input, or else we would’ve left it as is, not knowing how to resolve the issue of water. Thanks as always for making working in the yard and growing beauty from the earth something that is possible to those of us without experience!

That turned out great! I prefer this format, vs. voice over and time lapse because it gives some of us novices a chance to slow down and see how high you planted, mixed in your pine bark, etc. I think the one day project series is a great idea and one that homeowners and landscapers can get some good ideas from. As always, thank you for the tips and tricks.

I like the way you did this video. Yes, it's very interesting. I live in Charleston, SC area and am having trouble finding pine bark soil amendment. I've only seen mushroom compost and spagnum peat moss. The clay soil is drowning everything. Time lapse probably takes less pre-planing and could enable you to work more efficiently. But you're good at "talking on the fly", when you're out there "in the moment". And perhaps some of that would be lost, with more post video narrating? A hybrid of sorts between time lapse and real time? It's definitely good to speed up the long tasks, like trenching out the edge...and it's better to have a time lapse of that, than just a small incomplete snippet. Do what works best, so that you continue to enjoy doing these.

Feedback! Super excellent. As a person who does not own a truck, I purchase products in bags. So at the end, when you explained how many bales of pine straw you used and the equivalent in bags was very very helpful. The only thing I would like to know is the exposure of the area you are planting in. This would help me figure out what type of plants I might use at my house. I do know how much sun certain areas of my house get (b/c I kept a journal for a week in the spring and summer and even added diagrams). But now, when I see great plantings like yours, I'd like to know the exposure(s) of the areas you plant.
