Yep, more to break. I had a Titan from 2004 to 2019 and the stock V8 was 305 HP. I Now have a 2019 Ram with the 5.7 Hemi, 398 hp, no turbos. I fear now all manufacturers will only equip 1/2 ton pk with turbocharged motors. Theirs not much gain with the mpgs, and may be slightly more powerful. The V8s are dependable and has been around for decades. Also I dont trust GM 4 bangers, especially the turbo in the 1/2 Chevy.

GM Engineers say the 2.7 was designed as a diesel that runs on gasoline. I have a Canyon with one and I am super happy.
@f5fstop
@f5fstop Жыл бұрын
GM engineers also said the ignition key was not a problem. Look at that recall. In the 70, GM engineers thought it was a great idea to take a gas engine and put diesel heads on it for the Cadillac. What I'm saying is GM engineers will say anything to get people to purchase a vehicle, and to be honest so will all engineers for any manufacture. So don't lead a pile of BS on what an engineer at the company says. But, research, it was NOT built as a future diesel. I will say, it was used for many years, pretty good engine.

My biggest gripe with the Colorado is the obnoxious package dependencies. You can't just add certain ones without forcing you into others, and if you don't get some of them, you don't get *standard features* (like Andrew on FLT found out mistakenly omitting cruise control). This is usually the case with most makes/models, but Chevy brought it to a new madness level.

Pretty much agree. My thoughts are if it does not burn diesel fuel, a turbo is a scary engine; especially, when made by GM. (And I have owned a lot of GM trucks but unless a diesel all have been NA). Other problem with the Colorado is the integration with the info screen with items such as headlamp control, etc. I don't want to sit and push the screen three of four times just to manually turn on the headlamps. I want a solid switch on the left of the steering column on the dash panel or the turn signal stalk. I'll also state, that us old-timers appreciate hydraulic assist PS; especially, if on dirt trails. The EPS is for non-performance cars.

This is the first video that I've seen of yours, and I have to say how happy I am to hear you discuss reliability. I worked for GM Arlington Truck and SUV plant for 31 years and as times changed the build process became very innovative and bullet proof over the years, everything is close tolerance and the product won't move out of station unless all the computer programmed torque parameters are accomplished. You can't make a mistake without the build system letting you know about it. All vehicles are made with robotics and safeguards to prevent mistakes in today's production plants. Basically all auto products are pretty close to the same quality because of work practices and innovative, dummy proof build systems. So please don't tell me that one brand is built better than another brand. GM, Toyota, Nissan and Ford would not be in bussiness unless they built decent quality products. It all comes down to design and personal preferences in what your idea of the perfect truck is for YOU.

I think I am leaning towards the 2024 frontier pro 4x. I'd really like to get a lift with bigger tires for off road trail riding. The Colorado, especially the trail boss looks really rugged, which I wish the Frontier had more of that exterior design. For a off road trail riding truck, I feel that chevy just cheeped out on this with their customers. So, I think I may buy the Frontier Pro 4X over the Colorado and the new Tacoma.

Great video! Both are on my short list. My biggest issue with the Frontier is payload. I will be towing a 2,900 lb camper and camping gear in the bed and back seat. The Colorado seems to offer more real world payload (it also tows more by at least 1,000 lbs). However, reliability is very important to me. I am impressed with the numbers from the Colorado’s turbocharged engine, but is it reliable? Is that 8 speed tranny in the Colorado reliable? I like that the Frontier gives you options with the bed length. The deciding factors for me: price, reliability, and function (payload).

The 2.7t (IMO) has done well for a turbocharged engine. When compared to the V8's that is currently in the Silverado. Particularly the V8's that utilize both the AFM and DFM. The 2.7t has actually done better than the V8's. Despite the 2.7t utilizing the AFM as well. Tyranny is a different story. I haven't heard too much about it in terms of reliability, in the Silverado after the 2022/2023 update. GM has stated that they fixed the issue with the previous gen 8 spd with the new 8 spd coming out in the 2023 Colorado. But that only goes as far as when it comes to real world driving. But hindsight if the 2.7t is doing better than the current V8's, all using the AFM or DFM. If you were to do a AFM delete on the 2.7t it could probably do better in terms of reliability. The only questionable part is the tranny.

I said this on another youtuber's video comparing the Colorado to the Ranger, if you go strictly by the price the Colarado is the better deal. He stated the Trailboss was the Ranger Tremors competitor, that is NOT true. If you build a Lariat Tremor to match the base ZR2 the price, it is within a couple of hundred bucks, that's with both having the same options! In this video, the Frontier you are comparing is real close in price to the Lariat Tremor and ZR2 I built. The Frontier is Not even close in comparison to the new ZR2 🙂 Colarado all day long

@@Pickuptrucktalk I guess to clarify, you are comparing a pro 4x to an LT or even a Z71, when in reality this pro 4x is more in line with the Trail boss or ZR2. When you look at the window sticker on that Frontier it is literally less than $1200 of a base ZR2! When you look what all comes on a "base" ZR2 it has just about every feature the frontier has and a couple more. The problem with comparing this truck to a Trailboss is that the trail boss is built on the "low rent" base model interior. I get you can add packages to these trucks and drive the prices up, but at the end of the day people really need to shop wisely and look at what you're getting on these packages. Sometimes you're better off moving up a trim package then adding all these xtra packages on a lesser trim! The point I was making was which one is the better deal, the only valid argument you have in this comparison is more options from Nissan. In the real world, more power, more payload and from what it sounds like, better MPG from a Turbo 4 is going to be better, especially in the higher elevations!

I only show the PRO 4X because that was what I had that week which is what I explained in the opener. In the second half of the video, I compare a Nissan SV to the Silverado Z71. Much more fair comparison. Turbos better in the mountains. I was referring to everyday driving and how much the turbo engines have wild fluctuations in fuel economy vs naturally aspirated engines. I really think you got the wrong impression early on with this video and that setup your thinking. I think if you watch it again, you’ll see it is far more balanced than you assumed.
