Travelled with family members. Wanted to change to a smoking room, one family member came back to a huff complaining about uncooperative and rude front desk. I went down and managed to sort everything out. Next morning, we went out of the hotel after breakfast passing by the front desk. The same lady was still on duty at the front desk and ignored my family members in front. When she saw me behind the rest, gave me a big smile and a cheery "Good Morning!" I understood then the power of being nice to service staffs. 😅

I would think even if there is no balance, you'd still have to have a card on file in case they decide to not leave the room at check out or something and bolted the door.

I work at a hotel and this is absolutely correct. We also take an extra deposit that goes back to the guest at check out. There's a lot of things that could happen that we need to make sure we can atleast recover some money for
@squares4u3 ай бұрын
Or if you damage the room. Or steal things. Gotta have some sort of payment on file; some people are crazy 🤪
@Dargonhuman3 ай бұрын
Where I work, we have to have a second card on file for incidentals like phone charges (as rare as they are, they still do happen), accidental (or intentional) damages, theft, etc. Points rooms for our chain actually can't be extended, so if the guest stays longer than the original reservation we have to make a brand new one, but hey, we also have a card to do that with. Same holds true for third party prepaid reservations - those are often made on "virtual cards" that are one-use numbers that only cover rate and tax for the reserved nights, so a second card is necessary for all the other things.

The math of personalities is not adding up here. I have met really nice guests or really unpleasant guests. There is also a combination of a mildly grumpy person with an apologetic person. Most people are neutral and don't give much of an impression. Some are neutral but polite, some are slightly abrasive but not enough to offend someone. It mostly evens out with a particularly nice or rude guest every once in while. Then there are couples that make you question the fabric of the universe. Mrs. Pennies and Mr. Pennies is one of those couples.

Sometimes people are going through something major and get very stressed out about it, especially when sleep-deprived or jet lagged from traveling. Absolutely no excuse to take it out on customer service professionals. But it's important to remember that we're only seeing a snapshot of what this man is like in one specific situation, we can't generalize to say that he's mean to his wife or even to say that he's nasty all the time to customer service professionals.

Nobody should have to put up with corporate bullshit just because the person at the desk doesn't have authority. I just end up speaking in a really defeated tone because that's how i feel. I think people have different reactions to frustration, some people will just get super mad and you can't calm them down or do anything to placate them, they just make their anger everyone else's problem (which is not healthy and makes your loved ones hate you)

This reminds me of something. Many years ago when I first began my con ventures I reserved a room with 2 beds onlinenon their site. They gave me a single bed. When I went to complain they gave me some talk about how there was no guarantee that I would get the room I requested when I reserved. I smelled bs and sadly had no choice but to take the room because it was a con and all rooms were booked and all hotels within a mile were also full. Am I wrong to suspect that they bumped me to give the room to a different guest (special attendees/guests were staying in the same hotel)? I know that they either screwed up or had last minute changes put on them in the past because one year they had called asked if I'd take the 1 bed and some thank you gift in exchange. I know i wouldn't like the appreciation gift. I worked in the kitchen of a hotel before and i know the bonus at best is free dinner or breakfast at the restaurant I didn't even like, or a discount on a room that expired within that year that i wouldn't be able to use, so i rejected it.

Just cancel the first room and let him pay for the second one. I don't get it. 🤔 Some Front Desk agents act like it's their own money being lost, when it's the company's money, and the company could very easily absorb the small cost of canceling the first room.
