I was 12 at this time growing up in Harlem and it was quite common for women to get attacked in Central Park at night. One model at 2 a.m. was attacked. Even then, for the life of me I couldn't understand why anyone, let alone women would go out alone for a jog like it's Disney World. My mom told us to come inside when the street lights came on. Everyone did!

Robert James it’s not up for debate. It’s been proven they had nothing to do with it but I guess the fact that their DNA was not found at the scene or on the jogger and the fact the real perp confessed still isn’t enough. @@rob9999i Actually no, there were reports of people being harassed and robbed in the part, but none of the Central Park 5 were ever proven to be part of that group. I lived in that area during the time of the attack and one thing we heard from our friends and neighbors that night and the next few days was to stay away from Central Park, particularly the northeast entrance because the cops were rounding up any black and Hispanic teens they could find and hauling them off for questioning. It was all based on illegally obtained confessions.

My thoughts Exactly!! Sorry for what happened to her but it's strange how she conveniently couldn't remember who or how many attacked her that night, but was able to remember enough to write a tell all book later on about the horrific event, even if she got most of her information from news media and or transcripts, how is she now able to remember her usual routine when joggs, given her loss of memory, im not blaming this women for all she had to endure, for it was surly something no one should have to be subjected too, but this case was built upon lies from the beginning to end, from over zealous racist police, investigators, not to mention a states attorney who would be willing to go to any length, so long as it got her an confession, strikes me as strange that even though these men were proven not to be the ones who assaulted this women, she never apologize to them publicly or privately, for what they went through, they too had their lives altered in some form or fashion, but yet no one who convicted them for these horrendous crimes ever said sorry, not even the woman who'd been victimize, which i find extremely strange, especially after now knowing the full truth, the system certainly failed these young men, just like they do now..smh

I lived through this mess back in the 80s in the NYC area. All of this stuff brings up horrid memories. I remember clearly many folks, that I was around, were in real shock that ANY woman went jogging in Central Park AT NIGHT!!! This was LONGGGG before they caught anyone. Then I remember the news showing boys marched out of a police station and called “wolves.” I guess what I hate most about this story is the fact that those kids WERE in the park and brutally beating all people…period! Are you kidding me??? Here’s the fact, sadly, if this horribly attacked jogger was not considered newsworthy, we would not even learn of the many other victims who were attacked that night by those thirty kids. THAT CRAP SICKENS ME!!!

I think the five claiming they didn’t rape her is based on their deluded opinion of “well I didn’t stick anything in her” so I am innocent. They probably think in their simple minds holding her down, beating her and just touching her was just kids being kids. So my conclusion is either they are truly monsters with no conscience who don’t actually care about the victims, the real victims who were being beaten, but only themselves. Boo hoo, poor babies lost your childhood and everyone hated you. Ever think it might have been because your actions were so Fkd that, even at a time of record murder and crime, people were shocked at the viscousness? I’ve read so many documents, transcripts, and depositions on this case, hoping I could find, maybe one of the 30 something kids and family members , willing to tell the truth on this case, and all I I have read is a bunch of bitter lying savages that would go to any extreme or depth to lie for their own benefit once again. Some people are good, and some people are just born to be pieces of trash. At the end of they day, these 5 know what they did. And all the interviews, movies or money will never change that fact. Just wish they had the balls to say “ you know what, we participated, we beat those people up, and we still came out on top”. But they were cowards then and are still cowards, it’s just unfortunate most people in this comment section are too blind or prejudice to see it or do the research.

I'm gonna be honest here. I was 29 at the time living on the East side and doing professional theater. I had no access to tv. I worked at night. never saw the Donald's tv spot. Anyone who went into Central Park at night was either a moron or had no ones best interest in mind. That was the general mind set at the time. When we first heard of the incident, my fear was for my gay friends who might be cruising the Ramble for a hookup. When the kids were arrested we didn't give them a thought, we never expected them to be innocent, why would they be in the park except to do harm We didn't have any sympathy for the victim either. You just don't go into the park at night , any idiot knew that. New Yorkers, a tough crowd. We moved on to the next story pretty fast.

I blame the corrupt police for what happened to these 5 but moreover blame the stupid violent kids who were just in for gratuis attacks. It's always difficult with kids but one has to check whom they are hanging around. Let this be a lesson for the kids today who follow groups of roaming "popular" neighbourhood kids such as Baltimore lately.

@@897peace I am Black myself and no, I didn't imply that these 5 boys were involved in the violence. But the point remains the same, not to even follow random or "popular" groups. Whether the violence starts or not you will end in a bad spot. I grew up in Europe and used hangout in a place were occasionally some people who were known to be Black drug dealers chilled. Guess what? When police came they did not let us leave till late at night and all the white people were free to go. I was lucky because I had ID and me and my friends had nothing. So yes it's a lesson regardless of white or Black.

Robert James do you not understand how dehumanizing it is to be under investigation for HOURS! No food, no drink. As children? They were beaten up. And they were promised they could go home. You would do whatever it takes to go home. Granted, it was messed up what he did it doesn’t change that the justice system is at fault. They put the boys against each other. And they took advantage of Korey. Korey processes things differently due to his learning disabilities and hearing problems. And he’s sweet natured. They preyed on that! It’s so damn easy for EVERYONE to say what they will and won’t do until they are put in that situation. You can’t say what you would do. You weren’t in their shoes. I’m not placing blame on anyone besides the justice system and the investigators. They were children. No way...

@@897peace Yeah all allegedly, none of this shit was on film so how do we know what happened? No doubt they were lied to but how dumb do you need to be (excluding Korey as he had difficulties) to admit to police you are part of a rape and GBH, on paper and on film and think you'll be going home with nothing? Obviously the cops are way out of line and should be punished accordingly/system changed but that is some stupid shit right there and is also a good example of why you don't rat on your best friend when they are innocent thinking you can go free instead of them!! The circumstances that night weren't very hard to tie together in some sense, as in it was not a stretch to link the rape with the assaults and threats committed by these young men. Why is that so hard for people to absorb? Why is that offensive?! They were kids doing fucked up stuff, we've been there on some level before...who gives a fuck about their color, their actions were a combination of poor choices that night...black, white, hispanic, who cares..they were acting like assholes when their lives were turned upside down...is that a hard pill to swallow? It irritates me to no end that people want to paint them in such an innocent light that we loosely throw around the word racism....we need to heal, to join together, we aren't on teams and if we are it should be good vs evil

I see a lot of comments here saying “well then why would you go out at night?! You knew it was dangerous.” That is such victim blaming. Yes, it is unwise to go out at night when crime is high in a certain area, and you are putting yourself at risk, but people shouldn’t have to live in fear either. That’s like saying “that girl was dressed slutty at the club…So of course she got raped!” It’s truly disgusting. When someone is attacked or when a horrible accident occurs, you can’t think of it as “well, if they hadn’t *blank*” If we looked at it that way, there would be no true justice, ever.

💥trump's thoughts and actions about the Central park five. What a stable genius When a Central Park jogger was brutally raped and beaten nearly to death in 1989, trump was at the front of the pack calling for literal blood. Four black teenagers and one Latino teenager were charged and jailed on shaky evidence after confessing to the crime under intense questioning, and two weeks after the attack, trump took out a full-page ad in four city newspapers advocating for the reinstatement of the death penalty. But the so-called Central Park Five were vindicated in 2002, when their convictions were vacated after a convicted murderer and rapist confessed to the crime - a confession that was corroborated by DNA evidence. (DNA was never found connecting the Central Park Five to the crime.) The Central Park Five were eventually awarded a $41 million settlement from New York City in 2014. But over the decades, even as it became increasingly clear that the Central Park Five were innocent, trump has continued to call for their deaths, and even criticized the city for its multi-million dollar settlement - all without any actual evidence that the Central Park Five were involved in the rape. "To see that he has not changed his position of being a hateful person, to see that he has not changed his position of inciting people, to see that he's still the same person and in many ways he has perfected his sense of being the number-one inciter, you know, I was scared," Yusef Salaam, who was 15 when he was accused as one of the Central Park Five, told the Guardian earlier. "I thought for a moment: What would this country look like with donald trump as president? That's a scary thing."
