How to do katate dori shihonage is the focus of this new video. Lenny sly sensei of the #roguewarriors training compound shows us one of his versions of tenshin aikido shihonage. Sly sensei covers many different aspects of this technique. First by showing us a few of his additions to a aikido basic technique. What he shows us actually is a more practical #aikido version than more traditional katate dori shihonage waza. He includes stepping on the uke's forward foot, grabbing the uke's grabbing hand and head butting the uke's face all in one motion. This is a very unique waza to say the least.

Thank you, Sensei Penny for explaining the techniques as well as the falling aspect. Yes , I did view what happened when the Uke hesitated & you told him for next time to just follow through with the fall or else injury will occur. Very good constructive criticism. Felt like I was there receiving the same advice. Thank you again , God Bless we ill meet.

Awesome stuff, never utilized a head/face crunch hahahahaha wow, that will definitely disrupt any and all intentions to strike you or attempt to pull out! So true about follow through, I have many students still struggling with tsutemi applications though good at Mae Ukemi, the thought of not having their usual arm to roll from being captured and used to be thrown by is a big transition for them, so I had to create basic kite gaeshi drills to apply that to teach them with or sumo otoshi throws to apply tsutemi, yes doing all I can to help them experience the dynamic and explosive Aikido it can be as with my senior students I can smash without concern of their safety, but then that's the work as an Instructor I am cut out for! God bless Sensei Lenny and keep fighting the good fight

Very thorough explanation, and the emphasis on ukemi really hit home. When I was a 2nd kyu I trained with a overzealous Shodan at a seminar from ASU who tried to help me break fall out of shihonage (totally unnecessarily) but as I was rolling over my arm he pulled up and I landed on my spine hard. You would think that a Shodan would know better, but he didn't, or didn't care about my safety. It hurt a lot! I avoided that idiot for the rest of the seminar. And my sensei who saw it happen, was kind enough to pay him back...with interest :)

Good video, nice to see the old aiki jitsu style of striking the opponent before throwing them. That's how all throws should be taught in my opinion. Trying to throw a resisting opponent without striking them first is very hard if not impossible.

If I may make a suggestion... Rather than bring the arm all the way over and around to your other shoulder, what if you pull him off balance then simply press your shoulder up into his elbow while pulling his forearm down. From there you have the option to project forward into a throw or simply focus on breaking or hyperextending the arm. Look at the "32 catches" of Shaolin qin-na. There's a video on here where what I'm talking about is detailed from the 27:40 mark.

Sifu, I understand individual techniques and why it's important to understand the individual importants ! What I found with the head butt was not so much of a headbutt as a shove or cramming my forehead in his face and for me I was able to stabilize as we talked about technique of course if the headbutt take him down or knock him out great!!!! Being we just can't practice headbutting someone in the face I'm more often than not got my own bell rang or cut, when I crammed my head into his face it pushed his head back and I can control him better and complete the technique I don't want to knock him out with the head but I want to control him all the way through

I take bjj and I have watched some of your vids. I must I really like your instruction style. I actually have had the pleasure of using one of the wrist locks you showed from a cross grab not long ago (so thank you for that, drilling it with my wife with your instruction worked great). I know a lot of people rag on Aikido and other martial arts and I think its bull. I know some Aikido and Karate and many others, even BJJ is getting there, but when you have a true teacher that is concerned with teaching the art and skill and dicipline then all martial arts have a use and place in the "real word situations". Thanks for the vids mate. I do enjoy wrist locks and was wondering if you have any vids on ground based wrist controls?

For those who are not aware why it's deadly... The Ukei must be properly trained or thier arm will be broken during the training and application of this technique. Highly advanced Aikido lesson shown here. Resistance during application of this technique usually always ends in injury to the Ukei if the Ukei does not apply or commit to the technique. Remember that he is a teacher who cares about his students and this particular technique is extremely dangerous and highly affective. Also note, these lessons are single application lessons teaching series of techniques to respond to different situations where the entire dojo practice and develope together. When applied to real world situation... The flow of motion is extremely quick and you must not think about it and apply quickly and affectively without caring about the opponent not being harmed... One reason we see a few videos where application fails in Aikido is literally because the Aikido user is unaware of the fact that they are attempting to not harm thier opponent.. you must forget that mind set in application of Aikido outside of the Dojo in the event of real confrontation... Thats the difference in application and experienced and honorable Senseis verses ones without applied real world use of the techniques... This is why the lessons are so repeative... The students must become naturally possessive of the situations and application of the techniques or they simply will fail in real world application. In MMA every attack is applied sporasticly without hints to the attack... So to defend yourself you must be aware of thier movements to react first or the Akido simply isn't performed and applied.. this is why this Sensei is proving that it works and is boldly stepping up to prove it.

While u having that wrist good control in your hand and that sec before droping him down - you could put his elbow peak and put him in your chest near arm put. Then you have him 100% controled (he apsolutley can't do nothing) also you can drop him down as well. I like shihonage. Great vid. Peace

Regarding training with lower ranks, something I have noticed over the years is 1: higher ranks ie; 1st, 2nd kyu don't like to train with 6th, 5th kyu ranks or beginners, as apparently it's beneath them and 2: students that gain their shodan (not all), get belt head and think they're better than the kyu ranks and won't train with them. They've missed the point that they were beginners once. It goes back to what Ueshiba says and that the point of training in Aikido is remove ego from the equation.

bokken suburi have you tried playing tennis with someone whose skill level is lower than yours? Or a round of golf? Let me tell you is extremely frustrating. But when you go out to do these activities with someone close to your skill level is fun, rewarding, and challenging. Aikido to me is like that, I don’t mind training with beginners but after a while it is frustrating because I can’t practice Aikido at a level that I want to practice; which means I can’t grow.

@jaketheasianguy3307
@jaketheasianguy3307 3 жыл бұрын
To be fair you could apply the same principle by grabbing their left wrist first with your right hand and proceed as usual with slight adjustments, no needs to wait for a guy to grab you or punch you, which makes the technique even more effective. But that's basically turned the situation into you assaulting the other person first, not defending yourself

D Mauro, this would depend upon how the attacker is presenting the attack. Your body is facing the other way so the only way to properly apply a technique is to apply the attack in detail.. is your attacker trying to grab you from behind via your head? Trying to hit you? What? Being struck from behind is a different story in any Martial arts form... You can't see the attack.. only feel and react to it's affects.

Whats worse outcome you can face if attacked,,over here in europe its knife, attack,esp london at moment its stab city,,,a punch will black your eye or break your nose,,you will live. Knife on other hand(excuse pun) will be life changing,,,aikido is one of the best if not best for knife defence,,i have been there,,yes i have,,as prison officer i have over years had to literally intervene,,no baton,,not issued,,not even stab vest issued,,welcome to irish prison service and mountjoy prison,,hell there was no toilets till 2010 onwards in cells,,aikido i used esp when weapons involved which was daily,,2/3 slashings daily,,,aikido i learned prior to joining service i found myself using it (restraint intervention) almost daily and it was practical in application, Guys compare aikido to world of MMA etc with no real insight,,from someone on front line trust me aikido WHEN twicked to todays needs,,can work,,hence why i am here,,this is practical application of aikido,,we dont fight,we stop them. This is just terrible. It helps when you have an audience of fanboys who have never trained Aikido and don’t have the martial awareness to understand what they are seeing. The fist thing to notice is that he is not controlling the distance. Then there is not committed attack. So there is nothing to blend with. Then he stops what motion there is. Goes at a complete 90 degree angle which is not possible if they are moving fast. Then relies on leverage and threatening the joints to force the technique. Even then Uke (the attacker) is falling for him without “resistance” which is the usual rhetoric we get from Sly and the delusional functional crowd. Sly would have you believe this is somehow improved Aikido. It’s actually very very basic. He tries to capitalize on his distant relationship to Seagal Sensei and yet completely contradicts Seagal’s instruction: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKCVdZ-ufcyNq6M It’s not hard to find much better examples of Aikido that are not static, mechanical, and basic: kzbin.info/www/bejne/imrZiIVtesmEmq8 Notice how once the attack is faster Nage blends with the direction of the attack, lets the attacking hand go by, leads it, uses the momentum to throw the attacker.

Why don't you try it with me ? Already an individual who calls himself "Aikido Education" who presents himself in such a rude way with the image of the Founder on his profile, makes me smile a lot, but I can even allow myself the luxury of overlooking this : you must learn that every study it has a didactic function, and each practitioner develops HIS technique over time. The techniques of the great masters are distinguished from each other by virtue of some details that differentiate them. Otherwise, Aikido would be completely codified, the techniques and executions would all be the same regardless of who performs them, and in fact this is not the case. By appropriating those details with which he is most comfortable, each practitioner develops HIS technique, which inevitably recalls the technique of one Master despite another. Whoever you are, Lenny's work is a study, it his opinion on the execution of the techniques based on his experience. And there is no study that is not admirable, even if you don't agree with it. And if you don't agree with it, you can easily disagree, but you object in the appropriate ways that befit those whose hearts are sincerely steeped in Aiki. Aikido is union, it is not clash, it is not contrast. And fruitful dialogue, not blame as an end in itself. I had the chance to check out your channel. Inside there are 3 videos : are you the tori ? In this case, I will not lower myself to the same level as you: I will simply strongly suggest that you take a long, long, very long shower of humility. You really need it.

@@michelebecciu9698 Coward hiding behind an anonymous youtube identity and, like a typical fanboy of sly, making threats when he doesn’t agree with someone’s views. Though it is ironic to lecture me on unity in Aikido when you are defending mr. steroid induced rage. All of my comments were substantive and serious.

A 6th kyu is a white belt. Why use a guy that's a 6th kyu as his uke!? Save us your arrogant condescending lecture! This BS about ukemi should have not been in the video.

So now I’m being told what I can record and what I can’t. If you don’t like what I do feel free to watch someone else. Better yet go start filming videos of yourself teaching whatever isn’t is that you do. Just let me know where I can critique your stuff. But don’t be surprised if I ever comment. I typically don’t care what other people are doing, just the ones I like. And that list is very small.

@ROGUE WARRIORS TV you're an arrogant prick in all your videos regardless. If you post publicly people will comment, and if you don't like the comments you get, then guess what...too fkin bad! I'm laughing my ass off that my comments got under your skin, that means what I wrote has some truth to it or you'd brush it off entirely. You like to humiliate your students right on a video you would later post to KZbin and that's pretty pathetic on your part to embarrass the same uke who was there to help you film a video in the first place! You are total douchebag bud, a real fkin prick.

All I can do is laugh at what you just said. Talk about getting under someone’s skin. You clearly display that in your last comment. Do you see me calling you names or any anger. Actually no you don’t. Think before your emotions get the best outta your mouth. Oh and by the way I clearly understand that everyone has an opinion and if I cared about all the negative comments then I wouldn’t be here.
