The part where Darkness is talking about her ideal man and goes describes that he would say "Hey Darkness, get your fatass out in the street and bring me back my money." You could hear the Killua in her voice there. Also the part later in the episode when Kazuma says he's gonna do something crazy and she repeats with "Something crazy~~" and she sings the final notes. It's perfect

The best part on the Konosuba dub is that it's voice directed by Alex Von David who did the _Kill la Kill_ dub among many others he ADR Directed at Bang Zoom and also Cristina Vee (Killua, Marinette/LadyBug, Sailor Mars, Rei Hououmaru, Hawk) who is one of my favorite anime voice actresses voices one of my favorite characters in the show Darkness (aka Lalatina). 💛💛

I think one of the reasons why I generally look upon dubs positively is because of my exposure to them. Dubs are what got me into anime and over time I've become a fan of the English voice actors. It also helps that most of the dubs I first watched are ones that several people consider great (Konosuba, Haruhi Suzumiya, My Hero Academia, Toradora, etc). Personally, I think both the English and Japanese VAs did a great job with Konosuba. Alex von David also did a great job directing and writing the dub. It's seemingly rare to find an anime KZbinr that discusses dubs in a way that isn't heavily biased, which is why I'm glad I discovered this channel. Whether it's praiseful or critical, you guys discuss the topic of dubs in a way that never comes off as disrespectful. I must say, it's really refreshing! Not to mention how well thought-out, edited, and written your content is. Keep up the good work! Love your videos :)

Ah so this is why you guys had that interview session with Alex (which was definitely worth the listen for anyone who hasn't checked it out yet and loves deep dives into the adr process of anime dubbing). I only watched the first season of Konosuba, and as much as Bang Zoom has been hit or miss for me in recent years, I enjoyed the dub quite a bit! I think everyone involved was under a lot of pressure, and for the most part I think they succeeded. Honestly, some of the biggest laughs aren't even from the main characters, but the random background or one-off characters, which says to me that the creative team never overlooked an opportunity to inject as much humor as they could.

Konosuba was one of the shows I waited for years to release a dub (the others being Nichijou & Shirobako). I saw clips & reviews, but I was hoping for a dub to fully immerse myself into the story since I didn't want to miss a gag or a scene by reading the subtitles. When I watched the series itdidn't disappoint. All of the characters matched the energy and madness of the sub version practically to a T while each of the VAs gave their own personal flare.

If I remember, Bang Zoom/Right Stuff also did Hare and Guu back in 2001. They also went on to doing Ninja Nonsense in 2004. Those two Anime mentioned above have so much funny moments I can understand why Bang Zoom was able to pull off the Konosuba dub really well.
@SaberToothPortilla3 жыл бұрын
See, I appreciate this dub, because, even though it doesn't go quite so far as the original dub, you can tell they're leaning into that manic energy, which I think is pretty important for this kind of comedy in general. It's the unnaturally quick pace and energized delivery that give you the impression that, despite understanding that everyone on screen is profoundly stupid or incompetent, everyone is extremely witty. For lack of better words, they really throw their back into it. I think that's what gives people the impression of a similarity to It's Always Sunny, and a bit less so Seinfeld. On the Japanese front, it makes me think most closely of the Monogatari series, and less so something like... well, any comedy Gainax did, but Panty and Stocking comes to mind... Speaking of, it makes me wonder if the time is long gone for any of Monogatari to get a dub. I can understand why it didn't happen before, I don't think the industry was quite large enough to justify a project like that in the late 2000s, or even do it close to justice, but these days, I think there's enough talent in the pool that everyone knows what a given studio is maximally capable of, and, at this point, that bar is generally pretty high. There are definitely a number of series that had... questionable dubs in the past that we're probably more ready for now that the general direction quality has gone way up... Looking at you Utena...

I have a theory that the Random Tough Guy is in reality, the Demon Lord in disguise. I have not read all of the light novels but if I was someone who looked over the series of Konosuba with a fine comb or brush, I would present a theory that the Random Tough Guy who pops up on occasion and recognizes Kasuma for having potential. That triggers a deep foreshadowing that the guy may be the real Demon Lord in human form.

"Crunchyroll" and "best" really don't normally belong in the same sentence together. 0:14 Ironic that they promoted the one that got a twitter mob angry at it for its problematic themes (even if Twitter barely hit the tip of the iceberg, never catching stuff like how Raphtalia's age is still in the single digits or the fact she basically developed Stockholm syndrome as evidenced by the fact she insisted on being enslaved again when that wasn't at all necessary) the most. If Konosuba ever got that much promotion... Hooo boy...

The changes, along with the fact that you're hearing the jokes and not reading them, make it feel like you're re-experiencing Konosuba, honestly. And given the fact that it's a comedy anime that blew everyone away when it first came out due to how off the wall it was, sometimes that's all you can ask for.
