I thought we'd take a look at one of my favorite Lightsaber duels ever - Darth Maul and his brother Savage Oppress vs Darth Sidious from The Clone Wars Season 5!

Savage was a complete beast literally, he had no technique which was abundantly clear here, he was sheer power and pure animalistic savage instinct

That’s what I love about Sidious’ duel against the brothers. It’s the way moves, dodges, and swings. He plays and toys with them as if they were a pair of inexperienced and arrogant Sith acolytes from the Old Republic. It’s only when Mail pulls out the Darksaber and even kicks Sidious back, that he gets serious. Also, I an Ask Eck question; what would you fix about the Acolyte? What changes and improvements would you make if given the opportunity?
@jedileader01743 күн бұрын
Yeah, the music is ALSO great. The main of it feels like it would be right at home in The Old Republic, then there's BOTH main Imperial themes sprinkled in. Those being Imperial March and Palpatine's theme. Then at the end with Palpatine's theme transitioning into Imperial March. It's like Palpatine is killing the ways of the old Sith Empire to make way for HIS Empire.
@kevinhernandez25943 күн бұрын
One way to fix The Acolyte would be to stop knocking Osha out. She's definitely developing space CTE after that show. Give her Force visions either in her actual sleep, or give her spontaneous visions like on "That's So Raven" strictly for the cheese factor. I personally liked the show, but holy shit knocking her out every other episode was a bit much

I also love how, after being let down from the window, Maul took Obi Wan's stance, a defensive fighting style the Jedi use.

To be honest that was the most fun palpatine had in decades he always had to pretend to be a boring politician but in those 5 minutes he was a dark lord of the sith and showed his true power.
@stevenjohnson69623 күн бұрын
I've always loved the fact that palpatine is just toying with them throughout the fight. He didn't just defeat maul he mocked maul for thinking that maul could even be consider himself a rival.

This will always be my favourite animated duel in Star Wars. Seriously, when a scene from the Clone Wars can compete with Luke V.S. Vader in ROTJ, you know it's good.

This coupled with Satine dying in Obi Wan's arms, and the look of sad regret he had in his eyes, makes this Clone Wars episode the best of them all, IMHO.

You gotta figure Palpatine had to pretend to be a nice guy and have minions do everything behind the scenes to rise to power. He needed some dueling, laughing, killing time.

I'm so sad that they killed Savage though. He was already back lined when Maul was introduced and he really deserved more. Also technically he kinda landed a kick against Palpatine, which is insane with no real training and lightsaber technique.

Im a huge fan of the original trilogy, for all the shortcomings of the prequels, some bits of clone wars is the best Star Wars we’ve ever had

I agree, this fight was amazing, top 5 for sure. But in my opinion the Dooku vs Anakin and Obi-Wan fight in season 6 was still better (Dooku was also just playing with them and had one hand behind his back, and was beating their ass lije nothing…plus he put each one to the disadvantage because Anakin as an attacker was put in defense and Obi-Wan who is just the defense duelist had to attack). Tho it wasn’t a long duel it was still a top 3 fight in my opinion.

Honestly, I think that Maul should have died here. His final showdown against Kenobi in Rebels was a masterful climax to his story, but I think this would have been even better. After crawling his way back from the brink of death, Maul does everything he can to make a name for himself, amass power, and eventually take his revenge on Kenobi, but the moment Sidious sees him as an anomaly, he snuffs out Maul just like he snuffs out anyone else who gets in the way. Imagine if he actually killed Maul right after saying "There is no mercy". That line would have been great but sounds dumb when he proceeds to spare Maul. And seriously, there's no reason for Sidious to keep him alive. He can't do any good for the plan and could do a great deal of harm. Isn't that the reason he confronted Maul in the first place? Idk, his initial return felt plausible and led to some cool things (like seeing Palpatine deal with X factors), but keeping him alive after that just felt like fanservice. At least he got a good end in Rebels, unlike Ahsoka (who also felt like she was brought back for fanservice, but that's another can of worms).

I really miss those days, loving The Clone Wars 2008 and moments like this. Alas, constant ignoring of greatness like the CW Multimedia Project, flawed follow-ups from the same continuity like Rebels, The Rise of Skywalker, and Battlefront 2 2017, the increasingly condemned "Creators' Pet/Franchise Original Sin" stuff pertaining to Ahsoka and Maul, have ruined my enjoyment of the show. Permanently, I fear too.

I still wonder if at the end palpatine stopped the fight and used the force juste because he wanted to end it quick, like no more time to loose playing, or if for a second he really struggled to hold off maul's attack and even if it was still no threat to him he just didn't wanted to make any effort and take a risk fighting for "real"

@bloodfire19893 күн бұрын
I actually think this is a bit of a let down in terms of plot. Sidious should never have been an expert duelist, it was obvious from the scenes we do get from him that his mastery of the force is his specialty. Where Maul and Savage are pretty much solely in the duelist category. Instead, I think the writers should have gone down the path of Sidious 'dueling' with them using his force powers to make up for his saber skills. It would give him more character and play into his role of being a deceiver and force manipulator.
@Tomszpl3 күн бұрын
It doesnt make sense for sidious to go there, just another flaw in this mid show
