One Of The Best Mods To The TDI Toyota Yet!!

One thing i wanted for this truck, is for it to drive good and be comfortable to drive. Vibrations were killing that for me!! The hydraulic motor mounts helped a ton, and this better transmission mount made it that much better!!!

Nice work. I like that every time you work on something, it’s not just about functionality. You refurbish as well. I cringe every time I watch a video and they do great work, but then reassemble with rusty bolts and don’t bother with something as simple as rattle canning a part that’s a little tired.

that mount ( rubber) you bought, is a solid made mount. Its the same type Chevy used for a lot of years. I used one in my Jeep, Lasted for years.

I have a VW 1.9 Turbo Diesel (Not Tdi) with stock 22re motor mounts and trans mount, I have no vibrations at all. My 22re 4Runner probably shakes more

Such a nice truck! Sounds like it's turning into a smooth driver too. How's that SAS breaking in? Is it riding any better? After your done with the white truck, what do you think about diesel swapping a 1st gen 4 door Tacoma 4x4? Keep the IFS and maybe automatic. Build a fuel sipping, comfortable family hauling, capable and utilitarian Tacoma of the best looking generation. Haha... Just throwing an idea of a truck I would love to see, especially with the clean work you do!

VW engines don’t have counter balance shafts like the Toyota 1KZ or 1KD !! While driving I can’t even tell it’s a diesel But sometimes it does get a “diesel” vibration at idle!!

Just FYI 4th gear in these Toyota Trans are a 1 to 1 Ratio, I believe it basically turns the shaft and does not go through the gears. Not sure how that is could be causing more vibrations, maybe because none of the gears are absorbing it?! But I think there is something there that needs to be considered.

Yes 4th is 1:1, I’m not sure how that has to do with vibrations!!

@@austinniemela I'm no acoustic engineer, but here's my thought. When you are going through the gears, you are climbing in RPMs until you shift into 4th were you basically hold a steady RPM. This allows the vibrations to start setting up harmonics and then the increased vibrations. It's the same thing that causes that terrible muffler drone at highway speeds on some cars. It not the speed, it's the constant RPM level.

So now that you're all done, and it's running well, do you wish you would've done a different turbo and injector setup? Are you still running the GT1856 from XMan and .260 injectors? I'm going to pickup another ALH motor tomorrow to do a swap, and will be going back through all the videos, especially the wiring one, lol.

Yes certainly would change the turbo. Don’t get me wrong the 1856 rips and is a great turbo, but something like a gtb1756vk would improve a couple things

@@austinniemela That makes sense. It would improve when it kicks in ( a little lower) and allow you to make more power sooner. You can always do it! Would just have to modify the DP I guess. I'm looking to put it into my CJ7, so I'm debating doing a HE211 or sticking with a VNT. I don't need to go fast, but just want to have low end torque like the CJ would need. I know Nelson said he put down 220whp on the HE221, but his IATs were high and causing him to not be able to push anymore. That is on .260 injectors. I have a few months before I start tearing into it though.

@@austinniemela What makes it worse is its in a suzuki samurai. the chassis and body on those are both super light. I'm sort of wondering if I should rebuild the mounts now before I finish it. What year of trailblazer did your mounts come out of? Did you happen to measure how much the motor mounts compressed? My hood clearance and oil pan clearance is super tight so the motor has to stay exactly where it is now.
