Bass Pro CatMaxx cmx 70 or cmx 80 is in my opinion the best spinning reel for catfish under $70, I got a new in the box cmx80 off eBay for $31.00 shipped 2 day mail. It holds over 300 yards of 80lb braid, 40lb drag & like 5 ball bearings

I have one of those that is about 25 yrs. old. Great , basic, simple spinning reel. Only problem is the reel foot is BIG. Needs a Big reel seat. Limits some of the rods you can mount it on. They are real tanks. A bit more "hands on" as far as maintenance and cleaning goes.

Have been using my quantum optix60 for years but today I bought a optix80 from Walmart for $40. thanks to this video i just spent another $60 for one of these shipped to my door brand new. might have to buy another rod. i only have 12 rods and reels right now. lol. as i do on all of my larger reels i will spool it with 80lb braid. ill have 6 reels with 80lb braid. Got the df100a and spooled it with 100lb braid.

I’ll take the Quantum all day over that boat anchor! You talk about spending the extra $25 and having a better reel, when you admit to have never used it? So how can you speak so assuredly about something you know NOTHING about??? Serious question

I have in fact use it for the past 7 months. I have drifted large baits with balloons for stripe bass as well as used it for salt water sharks. Still going strong. Thanks for the comment.
