Hi Joel, Dennis here from Bali. I really liked your description of using Jackfruit. I didn’t know about the seeds. You did mention that the green fruit can be used in curries. You should have given a little more description of it. It is more like a starch, similar to potato. I love it that way too. I just watched your video on the coldest place too, very beautiful. I think when you do the live show, it would be nice to stay on a central theme, so it doesn’t get so scattered. Just a suggestion. I really like your work. It’s getting better all time. It’s really nice you have Li give so much input too. Peace man, Dennis

Oh! Jack fruits! They're so good! Here in Puerto Rico we call them "Pana Pen" and we eat them boiled in salted water and served with olive oil on top. Mmmm!. When boiled, we eat them with corn beef stew and codfish with cooked pepper and onions. It's really 😋. We also eat it fried in form of plantains along with rice, beans, pork chops, fried chicken and so on! It's a favorite here in the island. It's a fruit worth dreaming of 😊💤. Thanks for sharing this video. Good to see Li👍 Take care both and stay safe. 👍🇵🇷

I’ve never had jackfruit....and now it’s a must. I will have to visit my Asian market and buy one. Your tips on cutting it up are very helpful. I never realized all the health benefits of this amazing fruit. Thanks Joel for another great video, they’re always a pleasure to watch. Have an awesome and happy day 😊

Booswanger Hello! Great comment, thanks again for taking the time, and I wish you luck the next time you find a fresh market - this fruit won’t be hard to miss if it’s in the skin, if it still inside the fruit, but if it’s cut up I would imagine that it’s frozen. When it is ripe it has a very high sugar content and so like bananas, when ripe (and at its best!) it can only last for a few days. Good luck cutting it up, it is a mission, worthwhile but still the mission indeed :-) have a marvelous day today, all the best

tara holland Tara! Thank you for the message, I guess we are fellow fruit lovers. Hey at least you are trying, sometimes I can say I’m not brave enough to try a canned version of some fruits… Asia is indeed a giant world of food, but you know what I have learned from all of the places I’ve been fortunate to visit, central America and the northern part of South America is the birthplace of 70 to 80% of all of the fruits that we know about. 🤯

I found that our USA cantaloupes, watermelons, strawberries, cherries and, of course, apples, are way better than what I ate in Southeast Asia. But in terms of exotic fruits, hard to beat Thailand. The watermelons in Central Asia are the considered some of the best in the world.

Ron! What a score! Thats awesome, thanks for sharing that with me man. Hey, no worries if youve already tried (and don't care for them), but I think everyone should try papaya seeds at least once (they're so good for you, the taste can be terrible at first, turns many people off immediately, but if you can get used to it, enjoy it even, yeah they are just so packed with nutrients!). The taste of a jackfruit to me is something like honey and banana together. The texture is just a tiny bit leathery, especially if you don't remove all the strands (but its all edible! and great in curry as well, as young jackfruit), its a little bit bouncy as well. Very sticky, incredibly sweet, to me it smells and tastes like honey as well. God bless Ron, enjoy your day today!

I have watched many many people and many do not catch my interest because I would rather watch something Educational. As in to learn from it not for entertainment only. Learning about food can actually help us in our health to know what we are eating and how. I take it as an investment. LOL . So Thanks again Sir for your time and the coffee part was my fave LOL. I will look for it hear in my Asian Market as Atlanta does have one of the biggest markets and can get some of the more exotic fruits. Or some local dishes like the curry. Stay safe and travel well!

Murl Harmon Murl!! Hello hello greetings on this Sunday evening! I hope all is well. This is a really interesting comment because you know about durian which in my mind is quite a bit more exotic, that’s cool that you have had one! (Was it more than one?). Although they are both big and green, the skin of jackfruit is actually sort of soft, especially when it’s right, and durian and it is basically weapon-like spiky at all times. :) I love them both though… And they both do come from Asia! Keep your eyes open but I’m just willing to venture a guess that you could find it frozen, already cut up, much easier than fresh. I’m sure it’s being grown in the USA, but only on small scale and I’m sure it would be very expensive. In the video I mentioned the price of two dollars, even here in Thailand buying it at the market where somebody else did all the work, it sells out about three dollars a pound. So more than 10 pounds, Outside the city, etc.… it was quite a deal, I just saw it and went back for it I didn’t even stop the first time to look at the price. So it really was a treat and a gift indeed!

@@JoelsTastyRide I will look in the market next time I go. (it should have opened up by now) Jack Fruit is getting a bit of press on my end of the world since apparently you can make a faux pork from it. (WHO KNEW??!!!) I would be very excited to see and taste that version. Since we are having meat shortages here this could be a really big deal. Are you experiencing the same kind of shortages? I can only imagine on your side of the world since meat is expensive (pork and beef) (they need a lot of room and are expensive to raise) the local diet may already take in that fact. Thus you may not see any shortages! (something to think about) Well until your next video, take care and be safe my unseen friend.
@JoelsTastyRide
@JoelsTastyRide 4 жыл бұрын
@@4MEStudios Oh wow!! Well, I am happy to hear that (about the jackfruit replacing meat, not happy about any 'shortage' but looking just at the good side of this, it is great when MUCH more sustainable options can be found in anything, especially our diets!!). The restrictions here have not been very... restrictive. หวัดดีค่ะ Joel! Your videos are so wonderful and I enjoy them so much! I spent about 7 months in Thailand a few years ago and can’t wait to return. While on Koh Samui, I picked a very ripe jackfruit from a tree in front of an uninhabited house. It was definitely a challenge to cut, peel, and pull apart. It’s one of my favorite fruits. I wish I had known about boiling and eating the seeds, but, thanks to you, I will be sure to do that next time. Have you tried freezing jackfruit? It’s truly amazing and such a treat on a hot day. My favorite fruits include durian, mangoes, bananas - the fat, stubby kind with black seeds inside, longan, papaya, rambutan, and passion fruit. Keep up the good work. I always look forward to your videos!

Jackfruit looks like a ' land that time forgot' ancient fruit. Looks prehistoric. It's gaining popularity in the UK amongst vegans, vegetarians and those like myself and my partner who are striving to improve our health and environment by eating less animal products. We have specialist markets here selling exotic fruits and vegetables but it's not the same as Picking fresh from a tree or ground. Thailand is so beautiful and abundant in the variety of produce. Great job on the jackfruit dissection and dissemination 🌴🦕🖖

Nic .C Hi Nic!! I live pretty close to downtown Chiang Mai, but for fruit like this I always will either take a trip out of town, or for this exact example, when I pass a place with just unbelievable good looking fruit for sale, I might even borrow a car or ask someone to go with me, and just go back and buy the entire table. Yes you notice the price, sometimes I would even just buy all of it and then enjoy handing out some, of course I eat a lot of it myself, but yeah if it was any cheaper it would literally be free

I love eating the seeds. They are so yummy. Also the reason Thais like to have KaNoon (jackfruit) on special occasions is because its name consists of a prosperous meaning, which is 'noon' or หนุน in Thai. The word means support. So, they believe that their lives would not lack of support/help from other people, and the things in life will go smoothly. Edit. Have you try Kanom MedKaNoon ขนมเม็ดขนุน? It's a kind of Thai desert which makes from the jackfruit seed.

A Jackfruit half the size of yours costs $47 here in Canada. I saved the seeds to try to plant them but little did I know they were edible!! I learned something new! THANK YOU! I love the information and facts you presented about the Jackfruit. Please make more of these great informative videos. Focusing on one particular exotic fruit or vegetable and presenting facts about its origins, use and nutritional benefits is a really great format! I am a big fruit lover and Jackfruit and Durian are #1 on my list followed by certain orange-fleshed mangos, candied heart grapes, Cherimoya, and Chocolat Sapote fruit! I can't wait to boil my Jackfruit seeds!! Oh, and I laughed at the reference to the weight of the Jackfruit vs the weight of beautiful chef Li. She is tiny in the cutest most adorable way. Doesnt grow in SE Asia, that I know of anyways, thats a fruit of the Americas). And ok, last thing, yeah how hilarious is that a fruit can grow to be as big as a person… Even if it is a person on the smaller side hahah.... Much Love Busybee, see you for the next video very soon! @@JoelsTastyRide Hi Joel! thank you so much for the response. To be honest I thought my question would just get lost in the deluge of messages that you no doubt receive on a daily basis. I do like cycling, but mainly for my personal enjoyment and the side benefit being it is good for me. I do like the idea of cycling in places like south east asia, but i know from my experience that the quality of roads (in some parts) can be tricky to negotiate, especially if you are doing what you have demonstrated in some of your videos , cycling hundreds of Kms with one bike. So i was curious what bike you would have chosen to do these missions. :)

I love Jack fruit, in my childhood i used to climb the big tree in our garden and remove them one by one, each one huge, at least 4 times the size , that you bought, Every time lowering each one with a strong rope, climbing down, untie again climb up and repeat, At a time a dozen jackfruits. Coz it was a big tree giving atleast 50 huge ones, But all that is just a beautiful memory Enjoy
