I dunno, that's literally the most reasonable thing they said. While I doubt that the kid is actually using them as a therapist and crisis counselor, that's almost definitely hyperbole on their part, that would, in fact, be unhealthy for both. It can even be unhealthy for therapists to do their job, they often experience mental health issues of their own as a direct result of the toll their job takes, in spite of being far better equipped for it than most parents. It's way harder work than anyone really gives them credit for.
@x-49nightraven
@x-49nightraven 2 жыл бұрын
@@Missingno_Miner which is right, but as a parent, you're obligated to do it anyway. You chose to have kids. Remember. You chose to, you always had the choice. The kids don't. They can't choose who their parents are, or whether they want to be born or not. And at that point, it's become your debt towards your child that you do your obligation. It doesn't matter that it's hard or emotionally exhausting, it's the consequence of their actions.
@Missingno_Miner
@Missingno_Miner 2 жыл бұрын
@@x-49nightraven Ummm... no, parenthood does not create an obligation to perform a task that you aren't qualified to do and which could have an negative effect on both your mental health. The responsible thing to do if your kid is legitimately using you as a therapist is to get them in front of an actual therapist. It's one thing for a kid to ask a parent for help or advice, that sort of stuff is part of a parent's job, but unless said parent is also a therapist, they should not be trying to act as a substitute for one: that's likely to end poorly for both parties.
@x-49nightraven

@@Missingno_Miner But i didn't said the kids need to be using the parents as a therapist. I said that parents should do their obligations. Being a parent is probably the most emotionally involved things a person can do. Many parents will tell you the nightmares they have about their kids being hurt or dying. Idk why she thought she’d get sympathy for washing a kids hair. Also, the last tweet should make anyone angry. She’s taking in foster kids and these kids probably have a lot of emotional stress depending on their situations and the fact that one is an 18 yo tells me something happened in his former home.

Im not a therapist, you know how many of my friends come to me hoping for therapist like advice? Most of them. Anyone can perform the more basic aspects of being a therapist, all you gotta do is listen to their problems and if able, say what you'd try. A friend called me asking what they should do regarding their rent, and since their husband's mother and sister also lived with her, I said "let those two know you're having trouble, then tell them that you'd like them to chip in for rent from now on"

My mom for 20 and a half years would never show an inch of respect towards me. She'd make fun of me, laugh at me, mock me and mock my disability, tell me I'll never function like I'm normal, lay her hands on me then call the cops when I defend myself, throw me out of the house on multiple occasions, always announce every conversation that I'm Autistic even if I'm not with her, and so much more. I sat down several times and attempted to have an adult conversation about her behavior and it always turned into "Yeah its my fault always is." She acted like I was arguing with her despite me never raising my voice to her. I had no one growing up and truthfully still don't. Everyone who liked me either died or left, and even to now I don't feel as if she loved me because she did what my father did. My psychiatrist and therapist told me that my Autism is hardly noticeable and I can do what others do, and she wanted to argue that I wasn't capable. It was February of this year when she approached me and apologized for how she treated me and told me that she took time to reflect on how she's acted and treated me, and that she doesn't plan on making me feel singled out for my disability. Currently my mom is the one who has to tell me to stop being down on myself and that I'm normal.

I love being a parent and can’t wait for what’s to come, I’m off social media and so will they be. It’s so weird the unspoken rules other parents have ‘you can’t criticize another parent because you can be doing just as bad’ or it’s weird. I There is an epidemic of people who shouldn’t be parents being parents. There are so many parents not putting in time or love with their kids. It’s so sad. I can not imagine what it’s like growing up online and going to the internet for attention they don’t get at home. We know what the internet and social media does to adults, and it’s not good. Who knows the outcome of everything that’s going, but it’s not going to be good.

I had a my daughter at 20 and after 5 years in the game I will say parenting is an active thing. You honestly have to dedicate as much time and effort into it as anything else. That includes making mistakes and realizing certain concepts or tactics that help with your child’s growth. This lady sounds like she was her kids friend growing up and not a parent. You owe your child everything they owe you nothing

For the first few, it may be possible the whole “emotional labor” might have been a hyperbole. You know. Exaggerating how much she did for comedic effect joking about the difficulties of being a parent. I don’t believe they were all her legitimately complaining, just playing up the difficulty Tho the whole “not your therapist” one is admittedly harder to justify

As an 18 year old right now who is just going through the basic stress of going into adulthood, I genuinely think I would've ended myself earlier if it wasn't for my parents being there for me. I have a therapist too but they are not close to being the same as a parent. A parent should always be there for you emotionally, as often that's who a child relies upon. This women shouldn't have become a parent if she wasn't ready to take that very necessary role.

About the "getting hyped to go to work" thing, yeah it can be tough (to nearly impossible) to get hyped for that. It's just that if we don't do it, we don't get paid. That's what it's about, not "oh boy, I get this gnarly, nasty mess people leave", or "Alright, time to deal with rude customers" or whatever. It's about money, not wearing yourself out or dealing with what you don't like, just money. Though, if you work a job you enjoy, good on you.
