about your questions about luffy's parents... well... all i can say is, as a manga reader and anime watcher...it took us years to know considering the manga chapters are released weekly+hiatus and from the anime, and we learned them from a certain episode (episode 314 or 315 i think) and got everyone shocked...so that's all i can say...i don't know if that is a spoiler for you but that is all i can say....

The Seven Warlords are effectively the One Piece world's answer to historical privateers.

not at all, they are the answer to the Chinese color flag fleets relationship with the government at various times. Privateers have a very different relationship with the governement, and without colonies full of gold and silver funding a national superpower with scrappy foreign rivals willing to hire pirates it really misses the notion of what privateers were about. Or even just multiple nations in general - the whole point is you can't pirate our stuff but you can pirate theirs not a predatory relationship between cops and rentseeking supervillains.

The Seven Warlords of The Sea: They are Pirates that align themselves with the World Government. Basically it's the Government's idea to use these Pirates to fight other Pirates. In exchange for a cut of their treasure and being used a weapon in conflicts. The Warlords are not only aloud to exist. But are also granted amnesty. Which is why their bounties are cancelled. Also, the Warlords are especially power, and Dracule "Hawkeye" Mihawk, the One Piece's world's strongest swordsman is one of them.

I still remember after 3 years of depression and defeats, when my life finally started turning around, one morning, I sat down and watched the animated version of Zoro vs. Mihawk, and cried and cried and cried for hours. Up until this day, my eyes can still tear up by just thinking about this scene. The only other case is Rock Lee vs. Gaara, still gives me goosebumps by just even thinking about it. P.S. this season's progression pretty much parallels the animated special One Piece: the episode of East blue. It's only about 1 hr long, and it doesn't have any character and plot point cuts like the live action version. So, you can go ahead and check it out.

Garp afaik really is Luffy's biological grandfather. Luffy's parents are both out of the picture and Garp was pretty busy as a vice admiral, so for the most part Luffy was raised by people outside his family.

To answer your question, Garp is his biological grandfather but in the anime/manga, we didn't know and they didn't meet him until episode 400 or something. Here they change things and insert Garp early and made him a recurring character. He also have a bit different personality here. His real personality is more like Luffy, a very relax/chill person who keeps eating rice cracker.

He's still in serious marine mode for the most part here, but as he got from Zeff, it's the next generations turn! Yeah, the hints of Garp's character as we know him in the manga are very much there in the live action, it's just a little muted to be realistic and to allow him to play a slightly different role in the narrative for the season. And I think they're going to give him a little more character development through this season so he'll be more of the funny grandpa character after this season.

what makes mihawk interesting is he seems to be a main who's lost anything to do with his life. He stands at the top and all he can do with his power is act in the name of World GOvernment. Seeing Zoro finally gives him something to look forward to: someone to potentially challenge him. SO he lets Zoro live, because he wants to see if he can do it.

7 Warlords are privateers that work for World Government. Privateers in history were private individuals (Pirates) commissioned by governments to carry out quasi-military activities and Dracule Mihawk is one of them.

Mihawk is at the top of the world but Luffy's crew still got his respect at the end of the fight, that's why he didn't take Luffy. In the manga it happens in a different way but the spirit of the story remains. Mihawk changed his mind mid fight from seeing Zoro as less than fodder to a young guy with a bright future and enough potential to surpass him.

I'll also say that if we end up getting to a certain arc with another pirate and Garp, it'll be much more emotionally impacted because we had an entire season of Garp

Sanji attacks with legs because he is a cook. He doesn’t want to harm his hands. Garp is really Luffy’s grandpa. But Garp is a big deal in Marine (I bet he spent a lot of time away from the windmill village), he kinda left Luffy with the villagers and ask them to take care of Luffy most of the time. (There’s more about Luffy’s childhood but spoiler-free here so I won’t say anything further)

The actor that plays Zoro is Mackenyu ( born in 1996 in LA) started acting when he was 16 . His dad is an actor and a martial artist known as Sonny chiba . Mackenyu practiced Kyokushin karate since he was 8 (he placed third at the US kyokushin Karate Nationals in middle school) he also did gymnastics, water polo, and wrestling. He is famous for acting as Yukishiro Enishi in Kenshin live action. Keep in mind that sailors often go off on their job for months at a time at sea. So Garp, being a Marine vice-admiral often fighting and dealing with evil pirates, often leaves Luffy for months at a time. It kinda makes sense he's kinda miffed that for the little vacation time he has to spend with his grandson, the little runt is yelling around about being a pirate, lmao.

One thing about the 7 Warlords of the Sea that’s made clearer in the anime than the LA is that their bounties were cleared and they work with the government, but they’re meant to only go after other pirates, not civilian populations. I’m guessing they went more vague in the LA to make it more of a moral quandary for Koby. However, it’s kind of an important distinction that will come up in a future arc.

To give you more context 1] In anime and manga a lot things happened differently as in anime and manga Garp was never introduced early and the man named Don Krieg was actually the main antagonist of this arc . Mihawk was the one who defeated the most of the Krieg pirates and only like 100 survived and Gin his first mate came to Baratie who Sanji saved and looking at that Luffy asked Sanji to join but he declined all the times . Gin then went back to Krieg and brought him so he could eat too and Zeff helped him after which he didn't care about their kindness but started attacking them saying Zeff has traveled the Grand Line seas so he has to have a journal and he wanted to take the Baratie ship as his was badly damaged . In all this chaos Mihawk himself pulls up because saying the same thing that Krieg disturbed his nap so he came to end the job but Zoro asked him for a duel and as everything played in Live Action Zoro lost the same way and made his promise to Luffy that he will never ever lose again in a sword duel . Mihwak got satisfied with Zoro's fight and left and Luffy faced Krieg . 2] In anime and manga the guy that had pink hair that Sanji bodied early was a marine and was on a date with that blonde girl but ordered his ship to sink Straw Hat's ship to which Luffy defended but accidentally blew into Zeff's room doing property damage and injuring him . Zeff tells Luffy to work there for a year but after the whole Krieg thing Luffy makes a deal with Zeff saying if he defeats Krieg will Zeff let him go and Zeff accepts it . 3] In the anime and manga it actually took the whole Baratie to bad mouth Sanji's food and basically push him away to make him go join Luffy because he didn't wanted to leave Zeff . 4] Krieg is actually a person who was self claiming to be the strongest person in East Blue and only used weaponry and armory for offense and defence . I think a lot of people actually like the fact that Krieg was defeated by Mihawk like that because him surviving that man is impossible and for me he was easily the least favorite antagonist in East Blue .

i dont think they will ever do it like that in that series, so i feel i can tell you this part: he was trained by bandits or something .. it was more harsh survival training than formal fighting .. and of course lots of heatbutts from gramps himself but yes his real parentage is also very interesting

I think they'll keep some of the flashbacks going like the manga does. I think we'll get a season of some of the things he has to deal with because of Garp's training, and I think we'll also get his time with a couple "other characters" in another season or two to build up all of that.

In the anime it is pretty obvious that Luffy and Garp are actually family, they look pretty similar which is why Garp's face was half hidden by his hat in the beginning to keep who he is a mystery.

It's hard to grasp how powerful Mihawk is this early on, but to put it simply every character you've seen in the east blue (besides Garp, and the red hair pirates) would be literal fodder compared to another Warlord like Doflamingo (and I mean all of them combined.) And Doflamingo is complete fodder to Mihawk.

Another way to look at it is we're almost to chapter 1100 in the manga with only 3-5 years left of the manga, and Mihawk would STILL give Zoro a rough fight, even after all those chapters, training and time passed. It's not clear if Zoro could defeat him yet, but maybe he could by now...and maybe not.

I am current in the anime and still, more than 1,000 episodes later, Zeff remains one of my all time favorite characters. Don't get me wrong I do love Garp, Coby, and Helmeppo, but there are some characters you will forge bonds with even though you don't get to see them much.
