To Mauler question as to why Netflix hasn't announced season 3-4 of One Piece. It is because the creator of the manga, Oda, has not approved stuff beyond season 2. He approved season 2 and personally announced season 2 himself. He has to approve everything before they start filming.

But as Gary said he has barely watched anime, but live action, so it was perfectly clear what he meant. What sounds great in live version is they really seemed to use time more efficiently in that show. That is what I despise in various anime shows it's their nature to be filled with fillers and dragging things out to get episodes to be long enough. Years back I e.g. watched Dragon Ball Z for a while until I simply became bored that 3 episodes is one character practically recharging their next attack. I could skip several episodes and nothing seemed to have happened in between. It simple became too much especially when certain time of the episode is always minutes of recap what happened last time. Yes, DB seems to be one of the worst offenders, and those few seasons of One Piece I have watched was not as bad as DBZ bad, but it was perfectly clear how you big chunks of anime would not need to be there. Especially when it's not lack of source material they suffer. And while e.g. G-8 arc which was literally a filler was great, otherwise whole anime could be so much more efficient than what it is.

I disagree regarding plot focussed stories vs character driven stories: both can work admirably if done right. Character driven plots mean the character and especially his flaws will create and drive the plot. So will his reactions to whatever the plot has to offer to him. In plot driven stories, the character is challenged by external forces (the plot) that test his mettle and reveal who he really is. The problem with modern Hollywood is -- They don't do either of them well

Agreed, you can make anything work, any story with any kind of characters, it’s all about execution. I once saw a film that I cannot find anywhere and don’t know the name of but get this, the whole film took place in a car, a dude driving to an airport I believe, and his whole life crumbled within an hour, I shouldn’t be spoiling but I will lol, so the man calls his wife saying that he had an affair and the woman he cheated with is now giving birth and he’s going to the hospital, also there’s his boos and work he has to deal with etc. a film about a guy in a car, and it was absolutely amazing, gripping and incredibly convincing, you literally feel like seating next to some guy witnessing a breakdown of his family, you’re also not being told that what he did was immoral, none of that, the film tells a story and let’s you make up your own mind. That’s skill full storytelling. Also, the film wasn’t Hollywood made, of course, European indie film I guess.

I would say One piece basically incorporates both with the Alabasta Arc and Water 7/Enies Lobby so both can absolutely work in storytelling. Only issue with Plot driven stories is that if the characters aren't good then the whole thing falls apart which is why in the last 5 years it has failed miserably in the west.

03:11:13 I can give some context to Kuina’s death a little bit. There’s been a theory that she might’ve committed self deletion because of how she acted and what she said to Zoro. But it was censored or toned by Oda’s editors to just her dying by falling down the stairs. And the Wado Ichimonji is a ranked blade, which is why it survived the fight with Mihawk while his unranked blades all shattered. Though it is still lower on the grades than Mihawk’s sword. A ranked blade like Mihawk’s Yaru is one of the strongest blades in the world, which there’s only around 20 of them across the entire world owned by big names people. One last thing I’d want to draw any attention to is in the first episode’s opening there’s a person in a green cloak we pan past. Keep an eye out for them. Same with the kid with bight blonde hair we saw when the pirates all ran to their boats.
@digital-underworld
@digital-underworld 10 ай бұрын
For more context the ranking isn't a ranking list but rather a tier-list of Grades all swords with grades are called Meito or Named. Highest to lowest the grades are Supreme Grade, Great Grade, Skillful Grade and Grade. Also the number is wrong there, Yoru is a Supreme Grade of which there are only 12. It would be Great Grade that there are 21 of, then 50 of Skillful and an unknown number of Grade. Zoro's 1 good sword Wado Ichimonji is of Great Grade being 1 tier below Yoru.

Nah. The entire point of how Kuina dies is to give context to Zoro's fearlessness in the face of death and why he's so desperate to become the greatest swordsman. The point Oda wanted to make with her death is in the words over her corpse. "Human lives are fragile, Zoro." The tragedy of her death is supposed to be precisely because of how mundane, boring and pointless it is. Zoro's declaration that he'll become the greatest swordsman and him taking up Kuina's sword to do so is him trying desperately to ensure that Kuina's death meant something, trying to find meaning in her death. Her committing self-deletion kinda flies in the face of that.

The reason they didn't confirm more than season 2 is because Eiichiro Oda has creative control over it, and he must approve everything. They have written season 2, so he could approve that and announce it's going ahead. They haven't written beyond that yet, and they've only started talking about what parts of the manga/anime they want to adapt for the following seasons. But the studio wants to make 6 seasons, and they'll almost certainly get it as long as they're willing to make Oda happy.

Thing is one piece isn’t a weird long anime. If people had patience to watch it, they’d actually see it as an epic in the making! Interesting it took the live action, which doesn’t hold a candle to the manga/anime for people to finally understand that. Lols

@@RoronoaZoroWasHereThat just isn't true tho. To a western audience, a show like one piece IS weird. The live action just reinforced that it is weird. Which isn't a problem. Maybe this gets better later on (just got to the defeat of doflamingo), but the show is definitely too long. That is my biggest problem with it. A whole lot of nothing happens. If it continues the way it is, you could cut 200 - 300 episodes worth of time from the show without losing anything of value.

@@bus3957 the pacing does struggle at times with long pan shots and episodes that hardly move the plot. Those could be condensed. However the live action condensed East blue too much to the point where it skipped over straw hat crew character development and diminished the high emotional points of that arc series. It would’ve been a lot better if they had 4 to 8 more episodes and didn’t add extra Garp content. We could’ve had Jango, who is important for Ussops development and Don Kreig who fleshes out Sanji’s characters a lot more.

@@bus3957 Ofc a whole lot of nothing happens, because its the Anime, which is an Adaption of the Manga. Its aired weekly in Japanese TV, so they stretch the shit out of every chapter, just so they don't come close to catching up. If you want an accurate experience of the actual Source, read the Manga. All the filler, reaction shots, repeated scenes and flashbacks aren't in there. Its a bit infuriating when people make such dismissive statements, when their only reference point is an adapation ie. the anime.

Why is a clone trooper running by 2 feet away while Ahsoka is stabbing an enemy, did he not think to stop and start aiming at the enemy she's fighting in case she messes up?

the whole scene when Luffy finds Nami and she says Help me is great. His expression, not liking what she did but still there for her. There are a lot of story arcs in this show I like but I think Nami's is the best. I can say thinking her plan would work is naive, but I can believe it as a desperation tactic, and seeing her willing to be alienated and hated, and sacrifice herself in an unlikely Hail Mary...seeing the inevitable happen hurts, and seeing Luffy there to help meant something to me as much as her.

When it comes to paying staff (aka, the people who actually do the work) we're just told there is no funding available. It's illegal for most of us to join a union, even if there was one for staff. So I really do feel for all of the non-union workers in Hollywood right now who are losing everything and have no one to advocate for them

IIRC, what got Whedon cancelled wasn't Carpenter, it was the idiot who didn't want to say the catchphrase and decided it was somehow racial, and then other actors whined about him being mean and telling them what to do (duh, it was his job), and then everyone started digging up his past, which included his nasty behavior to Carpenter and also him sleeping with actresses and they even brought up the old Marsters story about him being annoyed at Spike's popularity initially. So it was the DC actors who sunk him, and the old stuff that was already widely known was just more cuts while the blood was in the water. Hollywood knew what he was like and didn't care until people who were in the public eye due to playing DC characters started complaining. Carpenter didn't have the power to bring him down, as evidenced by the fact that he didn't go down back then.

Agreed. The DC actors (the ones that brought him down) are whiny millennials, (my gen) of course they would act like Karens and make sure to get him canceled. Nobody complains about how we are compelled to not murder, or compelled to tell the truth in court. Compulsion is not always immoral. This whole "if it doesn't directly affect me it's fine" attitude is why we have all these issues today. Bring back morality and shaming in the public square.
