Have been practicing this in my living room for the past 2 weeks and finally took it to the range yesterday. Absolute game changer for me. I never knew how compact my backswing was and how closed I kept the face. Never realized how much impact the wider take away and resulting lag would have on the rest of my swing. My contact improved instantly and I'm hitting my 7 iron 10-15 yards further and considerably straighter than I used to. And this is just the first day on the range! Thanks so much for posting, Clay. Can't wait to see where my game goes from here.

Clay If harvard had a golf major, you should be the head of that faculty. Your technique, approach, scientific explanation are just spot on. I have watched many of your videos and every single one of them are just amazing. Sometime i see people's comments on your videos, and it annoys heck out of me when i see some people trying to give you advices on how you explain things (change this and that blah blah). I wouldn't change anything , not a single word used in your materials though. Anyway, thank you for all these great lessons. ! I tip my hat to YOU!

Have to admit Clay, you have a gift when it comes to explaining swing mechanics. Take away in one piece can create a consistent set at the top of the backswing allowing that transition into the slot. I'm a little guilty of those annoying 'pick up' moves with the wrist resulting in snap hooks. Nasty habit, but with your explanation the next practice session should prove interesting. Thanks again!

The take away is to me the most critical step I took. Slow take away OP take away! Don't rush the downswing and use my shoulders took my handicap down at least 10 strokes. Now I can hit a 170 small target almost every time. THE SHOULDER TURN IS THE MOST CRITICAL. That's just my experience. YES keep the right arm strait semi locked! HUGE TIP BTW. The question is, do we really have to transfer the weight in such a way. I like to feel like my feet are more 50/60 to 60/50. I really don't like to think weight change. IS this critical? In conclusion, this video kicks ass! I honestly think this is one of the most important videos that you've ever made! You make it really easy to teach golf sometimes....lol....
@TopSpeedGolf5 жыл бұрын
Hi Brett, thanks for the comment. Glad to hear you're hitting it will. The weight shift is important if you want to have a powerful swing. Think about any powerful movement. A baseball pitcher is a good example. If they don't push off the mound toward the plate then they definitely wouldn't be able to throw as fast. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

Hi Clay , top video , my takeaway is very wristy ie the first move is just moving my hands / wrists so the club head is way outside the toe line , so when I get to the top the clubs above my head !! You'd have to see it !! not good ! the drill with keeping the foot planted and the straightish right arm without any wrist movement seems this could be an excellent drill for me , so am going to work on this . I'm in Liverpool England , and at present its 3 degrees and blowing a wind in from Scandinavia a bit chilly to be outside to be practicing so it's airballs in the living room for me !

My question is, if you take the club to the inside and really make sure you keep your right arm tucked in to insure you keep the club flat so you can swing the club out to the right thru impact. Would that be a bad move?
@TopSpeedGolf5 жыл бұрын
Hi Jordan, I wouldn't recommend restricting yourself in any way in the backswing. This will take away your power. Free yourself so you can get a full range of motion. Taking the club back way inside doesn't mean that's the same path it will take in the downswing. In fact, the momentum of the club may make you come over the top. Play well! Quentin | TST Instructor

clay can you do a video on ryan moore's swing? isn't he a good example of 'the move' ? does his backswing make shallowing the club easier?
@TopSpeedGolf6 жыл бұрын
Hi, I'll pass it along but we have gone away from player analysis videos. They just don't seem to do very well. There aren't too many players on Tour that aren't doing The Move. In fact, I can't really think of any active players. Your backswing can certainly help you to shallow the club but it doesn't always make a difference. We actually have a great video on this that is available to our members. Here is the link if you want to check it out: topspeedgolf.com/topic/how-your-backswing-will-help-or-hurt-the-move/. Love the detail. Can you describe (3-5) swing movements that stay consistent with all "swinging" clubs in the bag (Pw-Driver). I sometimes try to manipulate the club too much with certain clubs. In other words, movements that do not change with either club. Thanks!
@TopSpeedGolf7 жыл бұрын
Hi Robster77, your swing should always be consistent from your wedge to your driver with little deviations. Your wedges should swing slightly higher than your driver because of the differences in length of the clubs. I suggest starting your journey to a better swing with this video topspeedgolf.com/topic/a-consistent-swing-from-your-setup-split-the-center-drill/, and with time and dedication you will have a swing you will love. Clay, you talked a lot about the first half of the backswing but I was looking for more info on the second half of the backswing which talks about the arms lifting...do u have a video for that?

Hi Richard, I don't think we have a video specifically about that. It's pretty simple though. You just continue to rotate your shoulders and lift your arms. The key is to make sure that you get a full shoulder turn. This is what Clay talks about in the Power Turn section on the website. Play well ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor

Great video, but for me the position of the clubface at 1/4 back is absolutely critical and not a matter of preference. I have a strong grip & therefore focus on the clubface matching my spine angle at 1/4 back when the shaft is parallel to the ground. Pointing the clubface straight up in that position is an absolute death sentence for my swing.

The early set works great as Mac O'grady and others have proved. You have to do it correctly. And it's very important for short wedge and pitch shots. Is it the best, overall? I'll admit that is debatable but it's incorrect to say it can't work great.
@TopSpeedGolf7 жыл бұрын
Hi David, I 100% agree. As Clay mentions in the beginning of the video, you don't want to get too wrapped up in these tiny details. Having a perfect takeaway can help you hit better shots but you can also hit great shots without a textbook takeaway as many pros have proven. You really just want to focus on the things that really matter as Clay outlines in the Top Speed Golf System. Play well ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor

@TopSpeedGolf7 жыл бұрын
Hi Sun Sean Hong, the arm width is all based on flexibility my friend. Some people can get really high or can achieve this based off longer arms or rotation. Others might have injuries preventing a full swing, or have shorter arms. As long your arms get to the 9 o'clock position or higher you will be just fine. blah blah blah. when you start your takeaway while you rotate your arms and leave your left arm straight as possible if right handed. your weight should feel like it is being pressed on the inside of your right foot. when you rotate through your weight should feel like it is more forward towards the ball of your left foot.
