I think of two things every time I watch your channel. I think of what that all this started, you asking the doctor “what do I do now” after you beat cancer and your epic response to his ridiculous answer-you won my heart with that. Then you buy a little piece of nothing land and make (build) it a homestead. You have “built well” on every job and most of them you were learning on. Now your reclaiming a farm-in shirt, you rose to every occasion. Well 3 things I think of-because it’s impossible not to notice that y’all are just a lovely family. 1) Respond to cruises well. 2) Rise to every challenge 3) Be lovely and enjoy one another and the life your building. Very inspiring!

You are so right that it’s addictive collecting rain. My Pop had rain barrels everywhere, even at the corner of his little greenhouse made from recycled windows. I visited my brother recently. He has 4 rain barrels. Just one here, but I love to check how full it is after a rain.

When we first moved out to the country in 1991, we lived in a house that didn't have a good well or much water, we became experts at collecting water from gutters to the water from the A/C unit collected in a large container. We still collect water even though we have an amazing well.

Wow, 16' wide by 72' long greenhouse! That's great that you reached the 1000 gallons of water in your tank! That's great that the ground is softer after the two days of rain. Fantastic Jason that you did the whole other side of the greenhouse hoop house and you didn't hit another rock! I like how you used a sacrificial pipe to pound the pipes into the ground. Wow, half the time to do the other side. Thanks for this video Contreras family!

Look into Charles dowding no dig gardening . With your hard compact soil this would save you a ton of back breaking work. Josh satin is another market farmer to check out. Cardboard down and then compost on top of that and start planting.

Jason, i have been a fan for years...but can i just implore you NOT to bring in tonns of soil but rather bring to the property all of the means to make your own soil in situ...it is good permaculture principle and it is just so sensible to supply worms with what they require to make soil...work with them and dump newspapers, cardboard (how much of that rubbish do we trash each year?) and such and cover with manure, lucerne or straw, whatever...i turned a clay pan backyard into a thick deep soil just by using this practice and it makes everything better!

should be careful with setting stuff to a string like that, u usually set the string 1-2"+ away from where u want and measure back each time, if one post touches the sting and push's it 1/4" it throws off the whole string etc, then all of the sudden when you get to the middle its bowed out 6 inches
