The team I hate the most…. In the 90s it was definitely the avalanche but that hatred is gone. From 2007 to 2010 it was the ducks and the sharks but that’s gone too, then from 2011 to 2013 it was the Blackhawks, but we’re no longer in their conference. Minnesota isn't called the state of hockey because of our NHL team. The North Stars were good, but again that's not why. We're called the state of hockey because we've contributed more to the sport than any other state (obviously I'm excluding any Canadians here). The city of Warroad, MN alone has contributed over 70 Division one players, many of which went on to the pros. Also, no US hockey team has won Olympic gold without a player from Warroad on their roster. The town of Warroad is only about 1700 people. Oh yeah, a guy called TJ Oshie is from Warroad. Of course there is also Shattuck St. Mary's which has given the NHL the likes of Sidney Crosby and Jon Toews. Minnesotans were also the bulk of the 1980 "Miracle on Ice" team being coached by Minnesotan Herb Brooks. Minnesota also has 4 of the premier hockey schools in the country in St. Cloud State, the University of Minnesota, UMD and Minnesota State Mankato. Minnesota is the State of Hockey.

Okay so about minnesota... were called the state of hockey not because we have a good pro team, but because minnesota has produced more nhl players than any other state, because we have 5 D1 hockey teams, because our high school state tournament gets better attendance than about 80% of nhl teams. Every high school has a hockey team, every winter 10,000 lakes freeze over and about half our population owns a pair of skates. Btw in college hockey the umd have one of ncaa tournament back to back years now
