This video answers a question that I had received regarding the off-center "bulge" that can occur on coins if reducing of the coin is attempted before getting rid of the majority of the conical, or "cone" shape.
Now with the new Swedish Wrap Method coming to light, further reduction of the coins' thicker reeded edge is possible PRIOR to expanding it, allowing for the smaller sizes with much less effort!

Great video - very helpful! In terms of an off centre hole causing the parallelogram issue, I bought a couple of specialist centre punches and have recently bought some digital callipers. When measuring the hole to the edge of the punch I'm getting a 0.1 mm variance on one side would this be enough the throw it out? Thanks again :)

Yes, the Swedish Wrap dies are best to create the flat wall-look

Martin, the off-set bulge was a problem for me in the beginning, a problem which caused me to make some expensive mistakes. I learned a lot from your videos and personal advice about how to avoid and correct the problem. I found that I needed to pay attention to the smallest details in the videos. The wobble or parallelogram was and still is the biggest challenge for me to overcome. Even though I've made some symmetrical rings, occasionally I'll wind up with one side with not quite the same curvature as its opposite. What I found is if a parallelogram is created, reducing the ring all the way into the die on the one side, then reducing it all the way on the other side will produce a symmetrical ring. Doing that may not give you the size needed (depending on which 20 degree die your doing that with). The ring expander can rectify the size if its an issue but with a soft coin, there's a risk of crushing the detail. I found that the cause of the parallelogram could be an off-center hole punch, an uneven press rod and reducing one side of the ring more than the other. With the exception of the press rod, the other causes are easily corrected. As for the press rod, I found the push rod on the ring stretcher is more reliably balanced and the end of the rod is more even than the 6 ton hydraulic press. Still, the parallelogram is my biggest concern and the steps surrounding its cause are the steps I spend the most time on. I've seen other videos where guys go through the reducing process quickly and without difficulty but it's quite frustrating for me. The SWM is going to be a boon for me and the Teflon tape can even be used when working on the 20 degree dies. What are your thoughts? Am I missing anything? Thanks - Gene

Thanks Gene. Yes, as far as the wobbly coin is concerned, make sure to anneal often, and use some sort of lube on the inner die walls: as that will help the silver to move evenly and at the same time; especially when you're reducing. That metal has to go somewhere, so it'll tend to go in different directions if there's any considerable "drag", giving you a wobbly ring... hope that helps!

CoinRingUSA Yes, it helps, the smallest detail can sometimes be the answer to a problem.

can a coin ring like this one be fixed?

Yes it can; with some patience; a lot of annealing and a lot of stretching. It may not end up being perfect; but you could get it to look respectable, (but the detail will still be rubbed out).
