Being authentic and honest is the most important and I think why millions of people have left network tv and come to KZbin. I use to give presentations at least 3 times a week and I had horrific anxiety. Shaking, sweating, dry mouth, just fighting full on panic the whole time. And finally someone told me to think of it as a gift I am giving. He said if you really imagine it to be a gift from you it would allow me to keep my humility and authenticity while still being present at the same time. It made me stop judging myself while I was doing it. While watching you I kept wanting to tell you this and to breath. I can only speak for myself, but I’m not watching because I need an expert on something, I’m watching because you look and sound like me. I stopped watch tv because the characters did not look or sound like me or like someone even human living a moderately normal life. This new post Covid world is different. People are hungry for truth, honesty, humility, kindness. You have that in spades. So let that be your gift in whatever you are showing us.

I’ve been really considering starting a KZbin channel, and though I’ve done public speaking and taught a couple of workshops, I find myself being very nervous about the whole thing. Your comment made me think about it in a very different way and I just wanted to say thank you. 🙂

Great video! You hit the nail about common sense. Where I live, we tend to lose electricity alot. On the mountain and trees come down. We had some winds the other day and lost electricity. The longest was 52 hours with no electricity. My neighbors were using their generators. I do have mountain water coming to my pond through a hose by gravity, which helps with flushing the toilets, watering the chickens, or even for dish washing.

That's awesome! Thank you Miah! I realize that this is for emergency and obviously that is what you are using it for, this way you can really supervise the generator while someone else can see if the trough is full and move the hose to the next one that needs to be filled! Blessings!

We are considered temperate and can go a year without snow depending upon elevation in which every 50' counts but folks can also have snow in the back yard with nothing sticking in the front; a "real snow" can drop 4" to 24" in a few hours or come down slower in 6-12 hours. Equally, we can have some cold snaps which take us from the low 40's (degree, F) to 0 or even negatives within 24 to 48 hours; we panic on a regional level at the mention of a snow flake but there are times snow is better than the alternative. Historically, people with wells have had an actual well house big enough to stand up in and move about, hold a portable generator, and small-ish electric heater whike being structurally sound enough to hold a snow load. Many had a window with heavy drape on the non-precipitation side or end; old, old school included a kerosene lantern hook and often a lantern ready to use without a hook with nom indow. Around here, people insulate thier well houses for winter's cold and summer's heat. Some of these preparations have fallen to the wayside in the past 20 years along with the understanding that a well doesnt mean free water without maintenance costs.

Good Morning. Great informative video. I wish I had known. I just checked my local HomeDepot store, where I happen to work. I found that we had the box in-stock, but not the cord. I am in the Ohio Valley area. We still had damage from Helene. Some people were without power for several days. Our generators all sold out immediately, including an "emergency" shipment that arrived the next morning. I now know what I need to set my house up for a simple generator connection. I need to have my electrical pannel replaced, so it will be easiest done at that time. Once again, very informative video. Thank for sharing this important information.

You may cover this but I didn't want to forget my question as I watch. Do you have a protocol in place to collect rain water for your animals? Is that a thing? I realize it is just a fraction collected from what is needed, but I was curious.
@daigledjКүн бұрын
I can say it's definitely a thing and if nothing else they have one of the best rainwater collectors there is (the pond). One consideration for hurricanes though is it seems like after a hurricane there is usually a dry, hot spell so Rainwater goes from too much to not enough quickly

I actually just talked with my son-in-law about this a couple of days ago. I just turned 51, so I didn’t grow up depending on a hand pump, but I did have relatives who lived very modestly - no electricity, etc - and remembering how they did things has been on my mind a lot lately.
