For about a year my colony was tiny with basically no growth and no ant activity. Randomly a few months ago they started sending out workers again, and as soon as that happened the colony began booming in population. You just gotta trust that the ants know what they’re doing and know when they’re ready to start growing.

When I was young from Indiana in the 60z these were called Caespitum I have 5 colonies of Caespitum . I usually just put them in dirt right out of the tube after I see a few workers.. Thanks for posting this as these will always be my favorite ant as of 10 yrs ago I live in the tropics and the colonies will be fine just have to space them out so they don't kill each other.

I never thought about pushing the cotton with the purpose of the "door" further back so the queen doesn't feel insecure because of the large space, but then being able to expand it once the colony get's bigger.

I caught a Tetramorium immigrans queen this year and right now has 12-14 workers with a huge brood pile with large larvae and some dark pupae! It's amazing how fast these ants grow in only a few months.

@@antkeeper51 I usually find them the day after they are done flying around. I've never seen pavement ants fly in the daytime though. Every year I get them around my porch lights at night when they are flying around. I finally have workers now.

I snagged 2 of these girls end of June - one died within days (not mated?) the other is sitting on top of at least 15 larva and another 10 ish eggs - i dont think i will be able to hibernate this nest in the tube , will need to put them in a real home before the end of the year.

My colonies have more workers than those three after 5 weeks of capture than those colonies after a year. Must be genetics? What state/province are you from? I have five colonies, the healthiest has 30 workers and 90 larvae.

I caught one a few months ago and have about 10 workers now. When did you hibernate them? How did you introduce them to hibernation and what temperature? I don't want to kill them, took me so long to find a pavement ant queen.
@antsanatomy1436
@antsanatomy1436 Жыл бұрын
I hibernate mine at the end of October. They can go longer than some other species before hibernating. To hibernate them, I remove any heat source from the nest, wait about a week and then put them in my mini fridge. Slowly lowering the temperature over a few days
