This was REALLY inspiring. It makes me feel a little ashamed that I pay people to do work that I can do myself. I don’t have the budget constraints you did, I have a whole room in my basement for my recording studio - and yet the amount of skill, work, dedication, love you put into this effort is nothing short of amazing. I love seeing the joy on your face at the end. You earned every bit of this!! When I saw the total cost at the end I nearly died. I spent that much money on custom acoustic treatment panels - and you built a whole room on your house with an iso booth inside. I’m humbled, I’m impressed - and I want to be like you when I grow up. Cheers to you!!!

Awesome JOB on building this yourself. When you started installing the interior, I was floored, because I was still seeing daylight for your roof. You had some excellent luck, that it did not rain before you installed the roof. Any future structure builds, please Rough In before tackling the interior. Again, awesome JOB!!! And, WOW that is a huge Whisperroom.

haha! Summer in Los Angeles- believe me, it is nothing but heat and sun! Thanks for the comment. Yes, I really lucked out with the whisper room- it's a great size and I got it used from someone for a steal. That's also why I needed to leave the roof open- I'm not sure I could've assembled the whisper room in there without the space afforded by open roof and front. If I ever need to disassemble and take that whisper room out? Well, that's a problem for future Brittany ;)

Wonderful job, Brittany! I've been thinking to build something like this for long time......and in in 2022, still thinking 😂. One thing I noticed that it is still far cheaper in US than UK for this kind of project even after pandemic.

haha! Believe me, I had been thinking about doing this for a long time and spent several years reading about sound design and engineering and home studio builds before finally getting on this, so don't give up! Well yes, you should be proud of yourself too! I really love your can-do-it-though-I've-never-done-it-before attitude, it really is admirable. I watched with a very sympatico interest as I recently finished a complete gut and rebuild of a room in my house as an acoustically isolated recording space for VO, and share your love of all aspects of drywall. I am not quite the neophyte with these things as you appear to be, but still, the experience was much the same, and I enjoyed sharing your journey. You can rest satisfied! And also, had a nice laugh at your window bit. Well played!

Great job!!! I understand some part of the process of work and it’s a lot. Really astounding you did so much of this alone. Have you had any issues with rain or flooding? I’m looking to finish out a $3500 prebuilt dog shed for my music recording. I didn’t see how you ventilate the space or keep a constant reasonable temp / humidity That’s my biggest concern. It has a sky light, AC unit and window already in the space.
@brittanyjoyner9 ай бұрын
Hi there and congrats on getting the ball rolling on your studio! I'm in Los Angeles, where it's temperate all year long, so weather is hardly ever an issue for me. It did get warm in the heat of summer, so I added a portable A/C that vented out the window and cooled down the space before recording as needed, but really that's only a few weeks out of the year. Rain and flooding is also not an issue. I have a gravel path in front of the studio that soaks up any of the rain in the winter. No puddles. I can't speak from a health or pro-builders perspective, but the fact that you have an A/C unit and a window would tell me that you're fine. Best of luck!
@The_Absurdistt Жыл бұрын
Congrats. Lots of extremely difficult labor has led to success. Is there any plans for ventilation/ac? Cheers.
@brittanyjoyner Жыл бұрын
Hi there, I put a standalone A/C (portable) that I use when I'm not recording, and I turn it off when I start. I routed the exhaust through the window. I also have a small fan inside the whisper room.

how did you handle HVAC for heat and cool quietly??? thanks
@brittanyjoyner Жыл бұрын
Hi Steve, I get this question a lot. 1. I live in Los Angeles, and it's temperate year-round 2. It's in the shadiest part of the yard, and a tree hangs over it 3. Insulation in the walls helps 4. In winter, I put a light jacket on 5. in summer, I keep a desk fan in there and run it between takes 6. in deep summer, I have a portable A/C that I pipe cold air in with for 20 minutes before I go in. Hope this helps!

No AC, is going to be a sauna room in summer with LA heats!?
@brittanyjoyner Жыл бұрын
Good question, and I've now experienced 1 LA summer in it. It wasn't the worst. Since it's in a shady part of the yard under a tree, it's the coolest area of our property. Plus, the insulation for sure helps. When it got peak heat this past summer, I got a portable AC from a friend and piped the exhaust out the window and cooled it off before sessions. It worked fairly well.
@theoriginaldashriprock Жыл бұрын
I'm sure you know by now, that the roof and exterior walls have to be completed first. Dried in before electrical or sheetrock or flooring. Did you forget about air-conditioning? And what was the point of the window if it was going to be covered?

Outstanding resolve. We all "whine", and then those committed get on with it. Thanks for posting cost, we never see that. "...resentful...making dinner..." thoughts, Mr's an actor, so we too do a lot of tap dancing, particularly around schedules, however... Yes, part of the difficulties for women building (working, etc.) is we don't have wives, who run the house for us, when we exhaust ourselves on these projects. I've a 60 day "I'm not your mother and you're no longer a guest" rule: anyone living in my household for more than 60 days either does the cooking or the dishes. And then we divvy up the rest of the housework. We're not meanly attached to 50/50, if I'm tired from yard work, or he arrives late from NYC/filming, we each accommodate cooking/dishes/etc. of the other. It's not my dirt, meals, laundry and I see no reason for only 1 taking up the work for it. Trolling for wood thoughts, small towns' dumps, or find new house construction going on, and follow them on their end of day runs. And for not free, but cheap, ReStore: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZTOlalujKyWjdk
