UPDATE REGARDING A NEW TEST:
This test ended on November 2019, but we've just shared the details of a new Longevity Test we're working on!
For more information, check out the video here: • Our Biggest Test Yet: ...
And article, here: www.rtings.com/tv/tests/longe...
PREVIOUS DESCRITION:
In this video, we will go over the results so far from our two ongoing burn-in tests.
Our current stance is that if you vary your content and don’t display static areas then you’re unlikely to experience any issues. If you do plan to watch a lot of static content with bright, saturated colors, then an OLED TV probably isn’t for you. There has been no appreciable change to the brightness or color gamut of these OLED TVs which is great.

This is what has always worried me about OLED panels. It's obvious they are better sets in terms of picture but the TV's in general seem to have a shorter lifespan. Please keep these units running into the future for continued analysis! After YEARS of use I'd love to see you directly compare them to the same unused models, and not in regards to specific burn in spots, but rather their overall loss of brightness and function. If burn-in is really just a result of pixels losing their mojo by being on too long and bright in certain areas at one time, then doesn't that mean ALL diodes lose their juice over time?? If so, you'd conclude that all OLED tvs degrade over time uniformly (minus the user 'errors' of specific burn in), and basically your tv is downgrading itself from its original state from which you bought it?

If you plan to play alot I wouldnt use an Oled. Im using a c7 and burn in started after 2,5years and degraded rather quickly. From slight burn in to highly visible (health bars, group member bars, chat box etc). I have been playing pretty much the same game for about 10000h over a 4year period and the TV is now going in the bin. If you play different games on a casual scale you will probably be fine, but why risk it? 2500£ for a TV that lasted 4years. Not my best purchase.

The black spots on LED could be a result of micro dust that collects between panel layers due to constant air convection there. Usually it appear as darkened lower left/right corners though. In many cases it can be cleaned if that is the case. Or alternatively it could be light-reflecting layer deforming under constant heat. Still a reminder that LCD are not perfect either

@FearTheTaswegian 4 жыл бұрын
For Netflix and Prime you can set more options for Subtitle style via the webpage user profile settings rather than just the in-TV app (wait a bit & restart the tv app to pick up the changes). I was originally trying to solve that the white subtitles were waaaay to bright and distracting in dark scenes but I think I’ve totally solved the burn in issue too. I added the black box surround to the text which normally annoyingly blocks too much of the scene but here is the trick; Set the *opacity* for both the text and the surround to low. Now the subtitles will be much more subtle yet very readable because of the contrast between surround and text. They don’t interfere much with the scene because they’re semi transparent. Burn in should be almost eliminated because the saturation is low due to the subs now being ‘blended’ with the scene by the transparency.

Thank you 1,000 times. This was comprehensive and scientific. My $300 LG 65" that I bought 10 months ago has turns of permanent burn in and in general brightness and resolution are failing. I think I got a bad luck situation as you mentioned since up until about a month ago, I had none of these problems and never leave a static image on my screen for more than 20 minutes at time (when used as a pc monitor and even this is rare).

Yeah, my current TV is 26 years old and cost around £2000 when it was new, thats the sort of life I want from a TV that costs as much as car, anything less than 5 years is insane. I'll probably just have to wait for Micro LED for that longer life span though.

@@VeyronBD I understand but coming from a plasma TV for 8 years the transition was pretty streamline. I spent this summer reselling clearance TVs many of which were the displays and I would try them out for a week to make sure they worked. It was hilarious to see my 8 year old 1080p plasma destroying LCDs left and right. Eventually I got a 65" C8 OLED for $700 and decided to keep it instead of reselling.
