Thank you for the tips!! 💞 13 years of marriage + counting. No kids for us, but we work a lot so date nights are a MUST!!

This was posted on my birthday! I totally agree with all of these things. I'm 24, my boyfriend is 25 and we've been together for 4.5 years now. We do almost all of the things you mentioned in the video. We make time for date nights and day dates. Work and school keep us plenty busy so the major ones are usually on anniversaries, birthdays, and vacations when we can get them. So when the weather is especially nice, we take a walk around the neighborhood. We catch up on shows throughout the week and spend joint grocery trips holding hands and silly people watching. We use the food court as an affordable picnic spot on our monthly Costco trips. We have hobbies and friends we do/see together and separately. Keeping our individual identities is an especially important priority for us given our ages. We're in the stage where a person developmentally just becomes an adult and becoming established is expected to be your main priority. We hope to have a future together and keep this in mind, but plan on our paths separately first and foremost. Our communication is improving every day. He also is used to not asking for much and going without but he's great at keeping the atmosphere calm and light (his demeanor is similar to Joseph's lol), while I learned in early adulthood that vocalizing my anxieties or needs is extremely important to ensure I'm properly cared for and I'm getting good at advocating for myself (my demeanor is a lot like yours haha. Talkative and sweet, calm but bold as well). We've got a good groove going and have utilized each other's communication styles when they fit best. When we're really stressed we might have rare little moments of frustrated tones of course (i.e. Did you seriously forget to clean the bathroom? *sigh*), but we don't fight- only discuss. We always resolve our issues and learn. We were shopping for furniture recently and the awesome associate at Bob's was gushing about how great we were together the entire time 😂❤️ We love being physically affectionate- I make the effort especially for his love language, and verbal affection is a big part of my love language that he's made a huge effort with. We love holding hands and blowing kisses to each other wherever we go. We snuggle in together often. We say I love you every day at this point, I think. I've been big on making sure he knows how far my appreciation for him goes by saying thank you for a lot of little things as well. I say it whenever he grabs me something to drink, makes dinner, runs an errand for me, or gives me a compliment. Sometimes I tell him I appreciate him, that he's wonderful, or that I'm so proud of him for no reason at all other than the fact that he deserves to hear it. He always makes me feel like I'm the most amazing person in the room, in his sweet, endearing, casual ways. I know this was a lot to read but we have a lot to share 😂 Thanks so much for this video. Like many people, I had few to no examples of happy and healthy relationships. Interactions like this warm me in a much needed way. ❤️

The 'say thank you for the little things' is SO important. I grew up in a family that operated on an assumption of 'you treat those outside your family Great and those in your family Ok', and it wasn't until I found a blog that talked about specifically that in a post (CaptainAwkward) that I realized, if you're around someone every day for years you should treat them even BETTER than average because that relationship is an investment

Hello! Me and my partner are always working so it's really hard to find some time for ourselves. We don't have kids and we only have each of us one full time job, but we still find it difficult to relax after a long day at work. I'm tired and sleepy all the time. I'm hoping to regain some of my work-life balance very soon when our financial situation is finally stable. Now it's so hard because we're penny-pinching and saving up but it's only a couple months before we're financially okay and back on our feet. It's really exhausting and takes its toll on people when you're in a bad financial situation, the stress is simply too much.

This is one of my favorite videos. Encouraging individual growth is so important. I quit my job in January to pursue my own path of consulting. I have always been worried about what my partner thought, and I think he was worried that quitting my job wasn't the best idea. Eventually, he started encouraging me more and my dreams progressed. Our relationship is better than ever now. By the way Joseph's eyebrows were on point every time you mentioned his abilities :)

If you solve the "living somewhere cold but also not all cold" part, I'd love to hear how :D My partner and I also have an unsolvable problem - I want to leave in a penthouse in a skyscraper and he wants to live in a house with a garden. I am almost glad we do not have the financial means yet to achieve either of those dreams. Cause when we do, there will be a lot of arguing involved.

I got lucky in the sense that my boyfriend and I both want certain things out of our future home. We both HATE yard work and have allergies to grass and dogs, so neither of us want a yard. And we both want to be able to throw small parties without noise complaints, so we probably aren't going to get a condo. We also both want very little rooms in our house so we don't have to clean much (heck, we love our tiny bachelor suite apartment). So a tiny 1-2 bedroom house in close proximity to train stations and bus stops (I don't drive) would be the perfect home for us both.

I have a question for everyone. How do y’all handle snoring partners? I have to be at work earlier than my spouse so usually we will sleep in different rooms which I feel makes us less connected. What are some ways to combat this
@timesnotpoison5 жыл бұрын
Has your spouse has a sleep study done? Mine did, and we found out he had sleep apnea, and now it’s treated. It’s worth a try! Some minimal snoring is OK, but if it’s more than that it’s probably a larger issue that can be treated. Your sleep is important, too!

Why give the illusion of being married by wearing rings?
@OneBigHappyLife5 жыл бұрын
This question is 100% based on your assumptions and biases. We're not "giving illusions" of anything. We're living our lives how we see fit. It's you that's choosing to make assumptions about our intentions based on your observations and biased interpretations. First, you assume that legal marriage somehow makes certain committed couples functionally, practically, or measurably different than others. It doesn't. Second, you assume that only legally married couples can/should express their dedication through the use of rings. Yet the use of rings by committed couples pre-dates legal marriage and Christianity for that matter. Third, you assume that our rings are for the benefit of others (or to give others illusions about our relationship). They are not.--Tasha
@moniquem32275 жыл бұрын
@@OneBigHappyLife Assumptions, yes, biased, no. In today's society, wearing rings on your left ring finger usually indicate marriage. In your case it doesn't. Fine. Your video gave the impression that you were married. You're not. Cool. Just seems strange that you give legal, financial, and couple advice without doing the legal aspect of a committed relationship. You dear have assumed too much. Your response shows your insecurities. But you do you. :)
