OneFinity CNC for Beginners - Ep 3 How to Zero the Z Axis without a touch probe.

I have been asked in a several Facebook posts and comments on my previous CNC video's how to zero the Z axis without a touch probe. The process is pretty straight forward. Once the OneFinity is homed and zeroed to the starting position, move the spindle to a spot on your work piece, then lower the spindle down, with bit installed, to the paper on the work piece until it just touches the paper with a slight resistance. Once there you can press the zero button and you are set to go. Also highly recommend moving the spindle up before starting to run your code.

A different popular trick is to use a round precision dowel pin (whatever diameter you want, inch or metric). Lower the z until the dowel will not roll under your bit, bump z up until it just does. Instead of setting zero, you set your precision diameter as the z height. That should be more accurate than paper, given that all paper is not a precision thickness. You can find the pins on Amazon pretty cheap, ground usually within 0.0002".

Hi, thanks for the video. I just get my oneinfinty. When I try to zero the z axis it shows me that it is 4.6mm over. I really don't understand what is happening. Do I have to put the paper above the material that is getting cut?

If you have a FB account, look for the OneFinity User Group. That is a great place to post your question with a picture and not only will I see it but a lot of others. Without a picture of the error it is hard to troubleshoot.
