In this video, I unbox, install, and give a full review (after 3 months) of the Oneida Super Dust Deputy. With the use of CNC and other tools, I was constantly filling my bag. The big chips did filter into my separator, but still a LOT got by.
I decided I'd upgrade to the Super Dust Deputy and try and remedy, not only the chips, but also the dust. THIS THING SUCKS!
Tools and Products I Use:
Most of my tools and machinery come from my local supplier www.woodworkingshop.com

Nice job Chris, I really like the raising cradle for the bucket lid. I do have a couple of comments about your setup. It sounds like you do a lot of MDF cutting in your shop and that dust is by far the finest and most dangerous to our lungs. You need to be able to pull as much of that out of the air as possible. Adding a separator, be it a trash can type or a much better cyclone like the super dust deputy does add resistance to your system and lowers suction and CFM. To gain back some of that lost efficiency you may want to look at a canister filter to replace the bag filter you are using. Bag filters do not filter out the very fine dust and actually rely on the dust build up inside the bag to maximize its filtration. This however increases even more the air flow restriction of the bag filter thus reducing further the suction and CFM at the tool. Canister filters have much finer filtering capability and drastically better airflow to allow your blower to operate at its maximum capability. It’s not going to make your setup equivalent to a 2-3 thousand dollar cyclone, but for a fairly small investment it will make your system run better and keep your working environment safer. An air cleaner in the shop also works wonders for getting the dust that the DC doesn’t capture. Looking forward to more videos.

Thanks for watching. I completely agree.. this has been more than amazing. I have yet to get more than a quart of mdf dust in my bag since I installed it. This is designed to be a short lived solution until I can budget for a cyclone system that can handle 6-8" pipe and better filtration. That is coming very soon.

Thanks for watching. It has been quite amazing. I've emptied the drum about a dozen times and still only have about a quart of dust in the bag.
@bobbg9041

You should seriously think about a large round cleanable round filter insted of the bag, you'll get a noticeable increase on cfm and a lot less fine dust in the air. You need one that can filter down to 1 micron. With the bag your using your still putting enough dust in the air you should be using a respiratory.

Thanks for watching and the suggestion. Agreed. The Super Dust Deputy was always intended to be a semi-temporary fix. It was cheaper and offered better performance than just a replacement filter. I had so little dust get past the barrel and into the bag I am amazed. I have since upgraded to a 2400cfm cyclone with a pleated filter. I also upgraded my pipe to 6" and 8" PVC all around. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! I have that video and testing of it on my page as well.

Very interesting setup. Currently trying to get mine set up. At the very end of this video, a piece of slotted angle bracket was mentioned and shown, but I could not see how it was employed. Please clarify. Also really like the lifting handle! It would be very helpful if a pattern, or picture, of the arm could be posted. Thank-you for sharing!

Thanls for watching. I don't recall where the angle bracket was used. I sold that assembly when I upgraded to a much larger cyclone system, so I can't look for it or offer a photo of the pattern for the arm. I sort of built it for my needs and space. I wish I could offer more help. Maybe look at the final walk through and see if you notice the angle bracket.

I rewatched the video for the angle piece. Scroll to about 10:2-10:35 and you will see two white angle brackets on either side of the unit being installed on the lid of the system and up to the wooden arms. These are lifting it up and down with the arms.

Thanks Chris. I have a lot to learn about dust collection. Right now all I have is the free standing Delta Dc system that works fine. However, I do not have it in a PVC pipe system so I have to connect and reconnect to e machines. I want to have a rea system that connects with gates to all my machines. What is the purpose of the Oneida with the Delta system? Really like your logo.
@ChristcrossCrafts
@ChristcrossCrafts 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I used to connect each machine one at a time. Then I found myself getting lazy having to move the DC around so stopped using it. I ran a couple lines and that made it better. Finally I just decided to go all in so I didn't have to deal with that. Having the machine in one spot is so much better. The gates help keep vacuum where I need it. I had a separator, but the fine stuff kept getting by & clogging my filter. The super dust deputy solves about 90% of that and actually improved cfm. Ive had several logos but this one is my favorite so it will stay.

Nice build. I like the lift mechanism you created. May I ask where you sourced the bucket and lid from? I'm using a 31 gallon metal trash can right now and it is a bit too big for proper height of the Super Dust Deputy XL mounted to the top (makes the exhaust hole at the top too tall to line up with my Grizzly dust collector inlet).

I just used the blocking. No more than I emptied it, I just got lazy. I now have a full-size cyclone running 8" then 6" then 4" to the machines everywhere. (it's a video on my channel somewhere about a year ago).

If you're going to breathe the air coming out of that machine get adequate HEPA filtration for it. Wheeze-wheeze. Also, if you haven't used it in 25 years get 3 - 40' cargo containers and keep those odds and ends another 25 years.
@ChristcrossCrafts
@ChristcrossCrafts 3 жыл бұрын
I often wear respiratory protection. Actually, there is no true HEPA filters available for a shop dust system this size. You can get very small micron, or filters that "claim" HEPA, but they are NOT. They are available for other system types (shop vacs or air filtration), but HEPA would not allow the large motors to function & exhaust properly. Know the facts, cough, cough! If you are buying storage container, im game.

Why did you flip the blower motor over and attach directly to the dust deputy instead of a hose?
@ChristcrossCrafts
@ChristcrossCrafts 2 жыл бұрын
It makes it a direct link and provides better air flow. Adding a hose creates some internal resistance in the hose. This eliminates that and improves the design.
@Demon_Mx2277
@Demon_Mx2277 2 жыл бұрын
@@ChristcrossCrafts wouldn't flipping the blower on its side cause issues?
@ChristcrossCrafts
@ChristcrossCrafts 2 жыл бұрын
@@Demon_Mx2277 No. It actually makes it cleaner and easier when adding the filter and collection bag on the flanged side of the unit. I made supports into the frame to support the motor and tube. It worked flawlessly until I upgraded to a larger 3hp cyclone unit that would handle all of my needs.
Is this the best upgrade for a single stage dust collector?
