Hey there! I'm the guy that draws the 2D printable minis for Grimdark Future and Age of Fantasy. I actually first got into drawing paper miniatures because of your videos on printable minis for RPGs; it's been crazy to go from simple characters cobbled together for fun to making official drawings for my favorite gaming ruleset. Thanks for setting the ball rolling and getting me this invested in the hobby! And, of course, to anyone that hasn't tried them yet, I highly recommend you try the rules for either Grimdark Future or Age of Fantasy--you can print out free copies of the 2D minis and get playing right away :)

IGOUGO has its weaknesses. Are you familiar with Chain of Command by TFL? It uses command dice using (usually) 5 d6 and the results of the roll determine not only what units you activate but whether or not you get a subsequent round of activations.

This rule set always feels like a great method of operating Apoc 40k. It's clean, it's smooth, it's slightly more abstract and simplified, it's faster than standard rules but it loses some "detail" (crunchiness). But it makes for an awesome Apoc 40k game. It plays so smoothly you can really move a lot of points around and resolve things with plenty of "maneuver" and "tactics". In a lot of ways it what 8th/3rd Apoc should have been. A 750 point game is REALLY fast, and a 4K game is still faster than a 2K 9th edition game.

@Siathuan3 жыл бұрын
I would even argue that the armies feel *more* like themselves, looking over the Alien Hive rules and comparing to the latest Tyranid codex... I can absolutely see myself running a pure melee swarm in GF, without feeling like I am hobbling myself in the process.

Found Grimdark Future from your videos. Had been a wargamer for years, but burned out on GW rules churn and poor rules balance, as well as the bloat of the game. GF recaptured my interest, and like you I soon was dropping an embarassing amount of money building up forces. Gotten back into Wargaming after 10 years of just painting stuff for RPGs and making terrain following your tutorials (working on my industrial catwalks right now). Got a non-gamer buddy interested due to the easy nature of the rules, and my wife has played a few games with me and enjoyed herself, which is a testament to how accessible the rules are since normally it wouldn't be her kind of thing. I really love the whole approach of GF and really appreciate you giving the game publicity. I think a lot of people like me who like the 40K and Fantasy models and background but are a bit tired of some of the other aspects of the game like rules bloat or pointless complexity would get a lot out of this system. The games I have played have been reasonably balanced too, and easy to patch if there are balance questions.

Kids and I love 8th edition 40k. But, games take a while, they hate 9th, things get more and more complicated. So far,, we've just gone back to playing 8th, but I'd like to use my models that have been made illegal, and my models that didn't exist until 9th edition, and to finish a decent sized game rather than abandon it when the kids have to go to bed. This might be our solution, so glad I discovered this somehow.... no, seriously you've been doing this for awhile and it hasn't shown up in my feed or general searches until I started looking into some skirmish games and this "one page rules" was mentioned so I searched. This video gives me everything I need to make a decision on this, and since it's free it also won't be buyers remorse if there's something I can't stand (doubtful) or my picky kids refuse to play it (possible). The presentation seems like it will minimize page flipping ad well. My concern is being broke right now the unit builder may have to wait, lol. A “breath of fresh air” - I got the Kill Team Starter set a while back after many years of not playing 40k and after trying to come to terms with the Rule Book, realised that likely 90% of play-time would be spent consulting and interpreting the overly complicated “Rules”. Not good d for a fast paced skirmish game. - OPR is exactly what is needed for a quick-paced skirmish game - few and simple “rules of engagement” that don’t need to be minutely referenced at every turn. Games Workshop should take notice and drastically slim down their skirmish targeted rules. Well done 👍

Kudos very well made video, thank you bro now my old Mage Knight collection gets life back and be represented amongst the figures that can be used in the Battlefield. Love the figure agnostic position of OPR. This makes formation based battles so much easier and faster gameplay. Now to introduce to my youth group.

Excellent Tutorial! All well explained visually with examples as I like it. Hope you make more tutorials like this for the other games of onepagerules.

This is fantastic, thank you ! I've been meaning to look into these games for a while now, but this really showed how easily the game is played and I'd love to give it a shot!

This has been super helpful, thank you! One question regarding army building - Is there no force organization or number of unit min/max caps? I haven't been able to find anything regarding that.

None at all, as far as I'm aware. You have complete freedom to tailor your list to the kind of tactics you want for your army.

there is no Force Organization/Detachment rules as long as you and your opponent make lists from the same point total it should be fairly balanced make an army of lots of un-upgraded infantry? you will have lots of activations/firepower but not a lot of staying power to hold objectives long term since your force is made of one wound wimps make an army of hyper specialized elite units? well they will last longer and hit harder but you will generally have a tougher time claiming objectives that were taken ahead of you because of your limited number of units to contest My personal experience is to try to at least have a hero/caster or combo of the two if available and then to build what you think is a good balanced force that allows for lethality and objective coverage. you cant be both but you can get close and then let the dice decide the rest

I was the same way. I actively avoided wargaming my entire life. Until four years ago.

I'm so glad to see you make this video. You've become one of the most vocal proponents of Grimdark Future (and OPR's other games, by association) and I'm sure this is going to encourage even more people to get in on the hobby. I learned the intricacies of the game by watching your battle reports, but a primer like this is an even better way to get people started. Your channel is now a one-stop shop for folks who want to scratch-build terrain, craft or modify their own miniatures AND put it all together in either a wargaming or TTRPG setting. Well done!

Been wanting to try 40k, this light version looks pretty fun, also what's the music playing in the later part of the tutorial? So good!

Was considering playing 40k, but all the books and pricey models and FAQs really turned me off. OPR seems like a godsend!

Okay wow I got into warhammer40k lore this year May 2022. I ended up loving Tyranids. I considered getting the Commanders edition for necrons/space marines. The conbat patrol and start collecting boxes for tyranids And would figure out what else to add for necrons and space marines Was going to build up about 1000 points for all 3 factions so i could have buddies over to play and choose between the three factions Would eventually build up the tyranids to 3000 points worth for mix and matching for when i would go to the local game store. HOWEVER. By the time i was getting caught up on base rules and more importantly Tyranid rules using Wahapedia i found the FAQ/errata that changed things. Then shortly after the necron points changed. Thats when i read how they are constantly tweaking rules and its near impossible to keep up with. I gave up the idea and just doubled down on battletech/alphastrike which i had started buying Your video and rules have significantly reinvigorated my desire to get some wh40k models and can run even smoother games with my friends at my place!

Can I interest in you in a codex that will get FAQ'ed in a month after it drops and then languish for the next 2 years while the other codexes drop with more powerful units? BTW, you'll have to pay for the sub-faction as well ;)

Another great video. Very well structured and instructive. On an unrelated note, I love the way your Tyranids look. Would you consider doing a painting tutorial on them?
