Ever wonder how the Air Force created a battlefield full of acronyms and called it ‘progress’? Join Jimmy, Aaron, and the crew as they tackle the chaos that is AFSPECWAR, from command confusion to career hurdles. Why do we still use flight physicals for people who don't fly? Why are career paths more tangled than comms wires in a sandstorm? We’ll break it down and build it back up-on a napkin.

JIMMY!!!!!!! Great dude! He actually worked for me at the JSOC unit when he was SERE....good memories and was glad to see he went STO. EDIT: I should note that I was Jimmy's supervisor for a VERY short period of time and when you have someone as smart and talented as he is there is not supervision.....you just turn them loose to go forward and make great thing happen.

I couldn't agree more about making ASPEC War its separate entity from big Air Force. I'm in tthe pipeline and I've already even seen the disconnect and difficulties it makes by doing these things together that get in the way of getting things done. Those in the position with the power to fix this need to watch this!

Does AFSPECWAR also need to get out of the big Air Force mindset of SNCOs being done as tactical level operators once they make E-7 or E-8. That's just one shift that may need to happen in the culture. Hopefully, conversations like these help move that needle. Great work, gentlemen.

Great job! Very interesting. As a visual, go back to the Civil Engineering field and see how the field changed when the plumber, Mason, and the carpenter became a 7 level. They only have one RM for that entire career field. That could be used as a guide to form teams.

Wow! Absolutely fascinating episode. Lots of food for though, how to get rid of complexity. 🤔🤨

COMPLIMENT: It’s so funny to me that, obviously, this USAF spec war podcast has put more effort into the front end/logistics in terms of partnerships, gear, etc Almost like it’s a cultural difference between the branches or something

Yeah, fixed it but didn't fix it. I'm with Peaches, until you get someone who understands the mission of all the career fields and has the intestinal forttitude + clout, nothing much will change. Great work, guys. JA

Would it not just make sense to have AFSOC takeover from Selection forward, then also own the Rescue Squadrons similar to how Big air force Medical owns all the MDG's in the USAF?? Add EOD and SERE into AFSW (or rename to AFSOF please God) This makes all 6 AFSC's Special Operations and under the Special Operations Command. Have SR/PJ/CCT/TACP go through the same core pipeline them split after they do land nav, comms, medicine, shooting, predive, dive, ABN, sere.

@ I understand SERE and EOD as support but I feel like having an EOD guy in every ST team would add so much capability per team no different than PJ/CCT’s/SR etc. SERE is the one that I’m more on the fence about. I’m not fully aware of all the things SERE does but the jobs they do seem on par with how Civil Affairs is to the Green Berets

Whats the story on dive school, is that done through slots with Navy?
@vettevegas

SERE also does interrogations as well, right? And teaches behind enemy lines tactical stuff correct? If that's not specops then it must be intelligence. Isn't that a bunch of evasion fieldcraft?

PJ's were invented BEFORE the Green Berets, to do the definition of a "special operation" of rescuing downed airmen in enemy territory... Cmon. Clearly Special Operators.
