This is the best play through of this game i've seen, It's just edited really well. Well explained. The other ones seemed a bit more chaotic. He also played it as a true soloable, which i think really helped showcase the game, instead of intertwining what's happening to 3/4 knights. But also seeing this as soloable compared to quackalopes video. The delve phase is crazy important to character development. Alot of people on the campaign are complaining about the delve phase saying it's boring or not important. They'll just read the outcomes etc. BUt seeing the differences. I can see a million different ways the delve can change and play differently specially in co-op games. The only thing that concerns me, is if there was 4 players can all the players reach all their edge conditions and clues or does always someone fail / partially fail. but great gameplay overview, got a subscribe from me for this video.

Glad you enjoyed it. I played several times with 4 knights as well, and yes, it was VERY tough to get the clues for everyone while also managing threat. I don't necessarily mind though, since the stories seem to continue on in a branching way. I don't think you have to repeat the quest all over again or anything. The story just changes.

One comment from me on the Kara specific event - not sure if this was different for the physical prelude, but for tts setup instruction the two random knight specific exploration cards go only to the second pile you use after the clash.

Huh… in my prototype the ONLY bonus event for a knight was for the fleischritter. But each knight additionally has a card that creates a generic event (rolling on the d100 chart) with that knight as a lead. There were no instructions in the rules to shuffle those in one pipe or the other. But again, to be clear, fleischritter had two event cards. One that is generic like the other heroes, and one special card that only goes in pile 2. Are you sure the tts mod is different for this?

Resolve additional Exploration deck setup dictated by your Knights’ quests. (Hint: Fleischrier’s quest requires you to shuffle a Special Event card into the second exploration deck. Do it now.)"

Great review and playthrough Mike, as always. I backed the game since it ticks so many boxes for me. It has that ancient and majestic Demon's Souls feel that i still can't fully fathom. In reference to what you said near the end of the video, apparently there will be a true solo mode allowing you to focus more on one knight and less on companion knights (a.k.a semi-autonomous squires) and other mobs. This would retain the magic of 4 players play with less of the book keeping to boggle your mind around. To top it off, they recently announced a new sunken kingdom with everything that comes with it! Great time to be a board game fan.

Doh sorry - time stamp should have been 58:42. It didn't effect the game at all though - Kara would have still turn to stone. That part was actually my biggest complaint about the game. For such a narrative focused game to have a character turn to stone and die!!! and then after the encounter to just continue on like nothing happened felt really disjointed

@@uropygial agreed. They say in the rules that basically you didn't really die... the wound wasn't so bad, you got healed, etc. But if that's the case, just don't call it "death". Say you are knocked unconscious or you are able to stagger away, like so many games do, and you remove all the thematic dissonance.

Definitely seems like an interesting one, I backed at the entry level, but this definitely convinced me to upgrade when that time comes, I just hope they do a good true solo. In fact, this seems like it should have been a solo game with the individual storylines and everything but they also wanted the flowy teamwork combat, so hopefully they can balance that, because then it's looking like it'll be a great one.

It’s been a long time since I played ATO, and it’s seen a lot of development since, but to summarize my current thoughts: Combat - mostly the same. I appreciate that KF has mob fights and bosses. Could be more varied than AT:O Exploration - AT:O appeals to me more with the set map and locations to find and explore, but KF is pretty cool with building the map yourself. I’d cal this almost a tie. Story - I slightly prefer KF’s character focus, but AT:O will probably have a better overall storyline and plot focus. So overall they are VERY close for me.

It’s very very similar to AT:O’s combat. Biggest difference here is the addition of battles against mobs instead of just bosses. But yes, if the individual knight narrative doesn’t excite you, maybe wait until you play AT:O and hope they do a second campaign or you can find a copy if you want it later

That’s my preference as well. Our next Kickstarter game is heavily tested and is basically finished (except for potential backer feedback). But lots of companies prefer to get funding much earlier, and since they need to pay employees and pay for art and all that I can’t necessarily blame them!

Kickstarter is NOT a preorder system... they use it exactly as it's supposed to be. They are actively working on it and they will keep developping it. They did the same with Aeon's Trespass and they are doing a fantastic job.

@@christian_daigle .. most Kickstarters have about 1 year before they deliver. This game isn’t supported to go until Nov 2023 which is a 1 1/2 tears before delivery. After watching most of the previews they needed another 6 months before showing it off. Right now the game isn’t being shown off well which will hurt the campaign. The prototype wasn’t ready enough to show it off. Most of the previews Ives seen have been mixed at best. I agree it’s not a preorder but make games and not campaigns.

Granted they did a great job developing and taking feedback in the ATO campaign but It seems Aeon's Trespass Odyssey was much further along than this when they released the kickstarter. Besides the general aesthetic design of the game a lot of the key aspects like combat look unecessarily fiddly for no reason. I don't feel the excitement and risk vs reward of KDM or even gloomhaven in this. Hopefully it improves so i upgrade my pledge from 1$.

@@JohnnyMcNabb63 1 year? Seriously... if a kickstarter delivers one year after it's funded the game is already developped and they use the platform as a pre-order system. It could work for smaller games, but a game like ATO and KF takes a lot of time to develop and deliver. They are stil a small company and they need the fund to keep going. Their game is advanced enough for me to put in my money and support them. Even KDM still has the gambler's chest on development 5 years after his KS in 2017. If you don't want to wait for a game, don't use KS plain and simple.

I had fun with what I played. Combat is consistently tense, and I personally enjoyed the exploration phase. But it's hard to say if I'll love this for the whole campaign. I only got to play such a tiny piece.

@@OneStopCoopShop They added so much new content. Wish you had more time to give the Egg Knight boss a shot. Would you say fighting the same mob various times will remain exciting? Is there a bigger deck of BP cards for them that you use to set them up, or do you always use the same 8, just in a random order?

@@kobusbrits3523 I did play the Egg Knight a few times (just didn't record it), and he is fun. You basically have to treat him like a bull and lure him into running into columns to knock off his armor so he is easier to hurt. As for your mob question, I believe there were 4 of each number in the prototype. So you might use the same level 1s, but would have different 2s and 3s each time. But the big change would be fighting them at the next level, where you need to deal more wounds. That would force you to flip and face more 2 and 3 powers. I don't think that would make them AMAZINGLY exciting or anything, but would at least change up the feel :)

I have one last question - from what you've played, how does this compare to Kingdom Death Monster, Aeon Trespass and Townsfolk Tussle? How would you rate those (even though you haven't played the full games of Aeon Trespass and Kingdoms Forlorn)?

@@kobusbrits3523 yeah, your caveat of "I haven't played AT:O and KF fully" is pretty important. But putting that to the side: KDM - most expensive, least family friendly, maybe the best world building of the three. Most randomly punishing ("you rolled a 100? That character is dead"), which means you get the least attached to individual characters, which also for me makes it the least suited for multiplayer gaming. AT:O - 7th continent exploration seems pretty cool, I like the combat additions to the KDM formula (increasing power, coop tokens, etc.), an actual overarching story which KDM sometimes has, cool setting with the technology meets Greek fiction. TT - BY FAR the simplest of the bunch and easiest to get to the table, doesn't have the cool body part/defense deck of the other three which is something I love (though they model that somewhat in other effects), packs a big punch in short time but that also means it never achieves the epic feeling. KF - Best story for my money of the four based on what I've seen, less of a big epic story than AT:O but more character-focused, combat system is basically the same as AT:O but with mob fights which is a fun addition, exploration part is least interesting compared to AT:O and KDM, but still a bit fun.

Can you specify which attack/timestamp you mean? I don’t think I ever missed when attacking with a sword. Now if you mean my power rolls that failed to penetrate their armor, those can’t be rerolled (except by specific power reroll effects).

They have developed rules to have helper characters so you don’t have to fully control all 4, but those weren’t available when this was filmed. I hope they work well!

@@OneStopCoopShop Ah. Well you did say they didn't implement solo yet at the time of film making. Watched the video through. It's an alright game but not for me. I mean, I already own Kingdom Death: Monster and have pre-ordered Aeon Trespass, so having another game with samey mechanics will be a bit much.

@@Kindlesmith70 absolutely agree. Now, if you find that you adore AT:O and want more of that similar combat system, I guess you might pick Kingdoms Forlorn up in the future. But at the moment you certainly have you boss battling bases covered ;)

@@OneStopCoopShop Quite true. Besides owning Dark Souls, I also backed Monster Hunter World and Primal: The Awakening, so lots of big monster battles. LOTS of big monster fighting
