I'm sure that adding a fourth Onewheel to my fleet would cause my partner to consider methods of causing injury. She's indulgent, so far, but there are limits. I will probably start hunting one through the 3rd party market after Christmas where people ride it and just never get into it, giving them up with under a hundred miles on them. I also like to mod my Onewheels, not being able to add aftermarket rails really stings right now, as I'm not a fan of the stock rails. Once the firmware is decoded and we can reset the level on the boards, that's when I'd consider buying one directly from FM. Also, it's good to hear the opinion of another rider that doesn't mind the haptic buzz. Most of the other riders that I follow or talk to, that are really vocal, don't like the buzz and pushback. I prefer to just chill and ride. Most of my rides top out at 19-20 mph on my GT, and I'm only doing 16-18 on my XR. It was interesting to hear you talk about your comfort zone shifting forward a few mph on your first ride due to the increased power at those ranges, making is seem safer. Last note: the average doesn't include "stopped" time, nor idle time (hovering in place), but it does include the time you're accelerating and descelerating for those stops. I have a great little area by my house where I tested the heck out of that, as I was wondering why my rides were topping out where they were, but still averaging 14-16 mph, when I felt that I was riding most of the time near those top speeds. So, unless you're almost nosediving and taildragging with each start and stop, it's going to be counted against that speed. I think your extended times in Bay and Roam artificially kept that average down to ~12 mph.

Prior to the addition of haptic buzz, I would have encouraged any first time owner to get the most powerful OneWheel that their budget could handle, it's simply safer. It's not power that will get away from anyone. Haptic buzz may actually add some safety to lesser powered boards, idk. But none of the boards prior to the GT were powerful enough, IMHO.
@TheSakufighter

I dunno it’s not about power for me as I would still ride my V1 if I still had it. They all have a different ride I like.

@@TheSakufighter I get that and I understand for experienced riders. However, if a beginner starts out on a GT or GTS they may be spared the learning nose dives, assuming they resist higher speeds, that many of us lived through previously.

@@oldretireddude honestly, if I had to go back I’m more than glad I learned the way I did on the “weakest” board and literally moved up to pint, then XR, pint x, GT and now I have the GTS enroute 🙌🏻

@@TheSakufighter History is what it is, but no one should be left thinking the term "power", in the context of the OW, is like starting out on a too powerful motorcycle or car, where some experience with a lesser powerful model would be helpful, it's not.

My xr is way faster and goes farther than a gt. My vesc that coming will ge even faster and go even farther. Gts is a scam volts don't = power. Volts are pressure, if there's not greater amp flow then it's not faster.

Love my GT, but this one is really cool. Have put about 150 miles so far and not saying I like it more but maybe I do. Been taking both boards out and start off with the GT and finish on the S. Been doing 30 miles a ride , definitely has more, but my old ass doesn't. Thought about selling the GT, but its a great board and I think I'll keep them both. GT has Mustache Rails , Enduro, and the new S foot pads, but don't feel the need to do anything to the S to improve it. For me , stock is perfect. Wish I didn't have to work I'de go ride. If you're torn on which board to buy, spend the extra and get the S. You won't be sorry.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only board that it is lower than is the regular GT. V1, +, XR, Pint, Pint X are all lower to the ground than both variants of the GT 🤷🏼‍♂️ Besides, the Haptic Buzz Kill is the most hated feature in FMs history.....well ok, the BMS/controller pairring, and "corrupted memory" if you disconnected the GT battery, and they're non approval of 3. Party equipment, and general shitting on the right to repair is also quit shitty, but back to the Buzz Killer - had they just made it as a toggle switch so people could decide for themselves if they wanted that feature, they would have gotten standing ovations for that feature......but no, it is jammed down people's throat, and the app is locking up if you don't install the Firmware update that contains the Buzz Killer

FM does a lot of things that annoy me too and they are not all legit, but I think the FM hating is overdone imo. On my GT I wish I could bump the speed based haptic buzz up 1 or 2 mph but even without that capability I like the torque based haptic, and feel a lot safer going up hills with it. Before I never knew how close I was to an uphill nosedive, now I should get a warning. Last year I had a nasty uphill nosedive not paying attention to my speed and the conditions and fractured my clavicle - with properly activated haptic it wouldn't have happened. Also what if you knew that adding mandatory haptic to OW was the only way CPSC would allow them to keep selling them, then what would you say? What if the addition of haptic will end up saving thousands of broken bones and torn knees in the years ahead, even amongst some experienced riders who are spitting nails about haptic? You may be someone who is so skilled you won't ever need it but you can't buy a car now that doesn't beep at you when you don't do up your seatbelt. Almost all products have mandatory safety features, not allowed to sell their products without them. Not here to argue, just putting another point of view out there.

@@Alex-ge6fo Well, I do agree in some of it, and neither me or you know if the mandatory Buzz was the only way But I just express that most people hate it, and don't love it, like it sounds like you do I personally just think that I make decisions on what should happen to my property, also when it comes to well meant safety features, it is no longer FMs property. I have always easily felt surges when I ride uphill, so I have always thought that my board has excellent feedback for me to know where I'm at. And I would much rather have had a Duty cycle indicator (I trust you have seen Jeff's video on the subject?) "What if it saves 1000s of bones" well why not limit every board to 8mph, ang give you an unridable pushback or timeout for 10 minutes every time you tried to push through it? That would save even more broken bones I do know it exaggerating it beyond reason in that example, but life is full of choices and also risk, I personally think they took it a step to far this time I'm definitely not a skilled rider, but I have spent time to get to know my board, and every single time I had my nose dip, I was well aware I was on the limit of the boards capabilities, and was ready for a hard meeting with several of newton's laws I'm also just expressing another point of view
@Alex-ge6fo
@Alex-ge6fo Жыл бұрын
@@thomasbjerregaard1080 I appreciate the respectful discourse on this. I agree that no matter what you do there is risk with these types of devices. Even if it had four wheels, there would be some risk. There is the concept of acceptable risk level that comes into it. We don't know exactly what happened with CPSC but it is clear that they thought Onewheels were too dangerous and I believe FM were required to work with CPSC and come up with something to improve the safety level to be allowed to continue selling them. Unfortunately for me or you perhaps, but fortunately for the public in general, regulators have the power to determine what products (or the safety features of these products) we are allowed to buy/own.

Blame Commiefornia for the haptic feedback but I don’t mind it. Right to repair is just dishonest speak for I want to do whatever I want to do with it despite never having to face any lawsuits if the board blows up for example. Y’all are pathetic and clearly haven’t a clue and instead of riding something else whine like little betas. We get it, you can’t take a spill so find something more bitch made to do.

If you push the board past its capabilities, it nosedives and throws you off. But this is true for all self-balancing electric rideables, not just onewheels. The board gives you a warning when you’re going too fast, but some people ignore it, resulting in injuries. As long as you respect the board’s limit and ride responsibly, you’ll be safe.
@benjaminm5232
@benjaminm5232 Жыл бұрын
The recall was on the firmware. The new firmware just adds an additional safety measure to hopefully prevent some people from pushing past the boards limits.

People love pushing the boards past their limits and then complain when they can’t deny physics. Pretty much every time I’ve fallen or had a nosedive I wasn’t paying attention or trying to do to much on a low battery.
