At 36, Angelica Cheung was the youngest of Vogue’s editors-in chief. 10 years on and she has revolutionised China’s fashion industry. Under her brave leadership, Cheung broke the elite fashion world’s perception of China as a new moneyed, brand obsessed backwater. Overcoming stereotypes of China as a place of oriental mystique Angelica has established an empire of over 1.6 million readers. Chaired by BBC World Affairs Editor John Simpson, the session explored the foundations of Angelica’s success, how she created the fashion industry in China and, more widely, how this is setting new trends across the world’s most dynamic nation.
